  1. I had trouble with Carol, personally. I thought Blanchett and Mara's were so aloof, so utterly detached from any sort of emotion that the movie became alienating. I understand that Haynes was trying to intentionally distance us from the characters in a way - but that doesn't mean it was a good technique.

I much, much prefer something like his Far From Heaven - which taps into a lot of the same Douglas Sirk-isms while actually letting us feel something for the characters.

  2. Hmm is it just me or does it seem shows centred around people plugging things has become the norm instead of the exception. Isn't that what the BBB BONUSSSSSSSASASASA episodes where for?

I know you seemed to retract a bit later in the thread, but I think your point is valid. There's not much that can be done about it. CBB is a really popular podcast, and it's only natural guests want to come on and plug their stuff.

From a listening standpoint, sometimes it works (Gillian Jacobs/Colin Hanks) and sometimes it doesn't (John Heder/Jack Antonoff) - but it's the nature of the beast as the podcasting industry grows.

  3. Its such a shame, because we've all said stupid shit when we were young which we regret..but...usually not about something so sensitive.

It's not even that. He made a story up 15 years ago to tell at parties. It's shitty, but not a huge deal.

Dining out on that lie over and over again on podcasts is something altogether different. Dude clearly has some serious issues that he might only be beginning to face now.

  4. Is there any new premium content coming out aside from what was there on launch day? what's the point of renewing my trial if I've already heard everything..

Agreed. What's the point of having Lauren Lapkus and Scott Aukerman say on every ad that there's new premium "shows" coming each week, when we've had none (except for a bunch of old comedy albums) in weeks?

  5. I love the Wild Horses and like Flight of the Conchords well enough, but I unfortunately couldn't make it all the way through this one.

The over-talking made it tough to follow at points, and then Scott and the Wild Horses seemed to bust Jemaine's balls on almost everything he said. I usually love when the show goes into 'bit-mode', but Jemaine (understandably) seemed really frazzled. It sort of killed the vibe.
