We're close to that time of the year, so what would our dream movies for the two christmas episodes be? My pick is the 2004 disaster Surviving Christmas, which came at the nadir of Ben Affleck's career. He plays a rich, depressed asshole who pays two strangers (james Gandolfini, Catherine O'Hara) to pretend to be his parents for the holidays so... he can have a nice Christmas, I guess? This is a really strange movie. Gandolfini can hardly contain his utter disinterest. Not even the great Catherine O'Hara could save this one. It was advertised as a wacky comedy, but in reality it was extremely melancholy and depressing - with awkward bits of physical comedy thrown in haphazardly. The result was a huge box office bomb. Here is the trailer:

This is a movie which is based on the premise of a love triangle between a man, a woman and a computer. A computer that gains sentience by being splashed with champagne!! Also, it's one of Jim Rash's favorites so maybe he can be the guest. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Dreams_(film)

Say it ain't so - I'm really hoping the podcast is just on summer vacation, not a permanent vacation (ala Aerosmith).

The only good songs are hymns.

That song's okay.

I had trouble with Carol, personally. I thought Blanchett and Mara's were so aloof, so utterly detached from any sort of emotion that the movie became alienating. I understand that Haynes was trying to intentionally distance us from the characters in a way - but that doesn't mean it was a good technique. I much, much prefer something like his Far From Heaven - which taps into a lot of the same Douglas Sirk-isms while actually letting us feel something for the characters.

LA Weekly says one member of the band or crew is dead, sadly. http://www.laweekly.com/music/update-conflicting-reports-regarding-the-status-of-all-eagles-of-death-metal-members-in-paris-6277122 It looks like Jesse escaped, and Josh wasn't there at all.

No bonus ep for With Bob and David? Nooooooo!

Love Betsy and Lauren, but where the eff is Nick Kroll?!? It's a law in the state of California that Kroll and Mulaney must always appear together on Comedy Bang Bang.

The best thing about this year is that Dookus Mantzoukas is basically a regular on CBB now.

My little quibble from earlier aside, on first listen, I think this is the greatest CBB ever. #LiveAIDS -
EPISODE 377 — Good Night In The Morning
justinmh05 replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I know you seemed to retract a bit later in the thread, but I think your point is valid. There's not much that can be done about it. CBB is a really popular podcast, and it's only natural guests want to come on and plug their stuff. From a listening standpoint, sometimes it works (Gillian Jacobs/Colin Hanks) and sometimes it doesn't (John Heder/Jack Antonoff) - but it's the nature of the beast as the podcasting industry grows. -
EPISODE 44 - James Urbaniak: Boom Time with Jerry Branski

Urbaniak is the perfect guest for this podcast! I can't wait to listen. -
Sklarbro Country Episode 72 - The One Where Steve Rannazzisi lies about escaping 9/11
justinmh05 replied to SoundsLikeMLo's topic in General Earwolf
It's not even that. He made a story up 15 years ago to tell at parties. It's shitty, but not a huge deal. Dining out on that lie over and over again on podcasts is something altogether different. Dude clearly has some serious issues that he might only be beginning to face now.- 6 replies

EPISODE 375 — Wompler's REAL 17th B-Day Womptacular

YOU ARE A BABY BUT YOU'RE GROWING UP STROOOOOOOONG!!!! -
This felt like an old Comedy Death Ray episode. Very breezy, just a bunch of friends goofing around.

Agreed. What's the point of having Lauren Lapkus and Scott Aukerman say on every ad that there's new premium "shows" coming each week, when we've had none (except for a bunch of old comedy albums) in weeks?

Willie sounds like if someone kicked Captain Mustache in the taint.
