  1. The French guy that "has a fly in his soup" (The fuck? Doesn't even make sense...) had some of the worst ADR I've ever seen.

I'm old enough to remember when this movie was new, but not old enough to know if it was in any way controversial or if the Walken character was based on any specific person. I say this because I just started watching it on Netflix, and after the MGM logo there's a blurb that says "Neither the name 'Zorin' nor any other name or character in this film is meant to portray a real company or actual person". Anyone know what that's about? The Bond series has hated the shit out of the Russians for decades, but THEY never got a disclaimer or apology, so it seems weird that there'd be a disclaimer.

Danjaq found out during post production that a real tech company called Zorin existed. They had to include a disclaimer to avoid a lawsuit.

  2. I'm dismayed and somewhat afraid to say that, like Paul, this will be my first James Bond movie. for whatever reason, I've never seen anything 007 related... other than the countless references to it in popular culture, of course. it's pretty much the same reason I never got into Dr. Who until recently: too many actors playing the same person, too much mythology, not enough time. I'm very particular about the manner in which I consume something of that size... I always have to start from the beginning, so A View to a Kill is going to be another exception to that rule.

plus, I can get down to some Duran Duran and I never realized that tune was a titular song to this movie.... so I'm 'bout to dance into this 2-hour-and-10-minute-long fire and hope for the best worst.

If you are interested in seeing the Bond movies, you definitely do not have to watch them in order up until the three Daniel Craig movie. Aside from a few recurring characters like M and Q, the events of the previous film rarely impact the next film.

Bond seemingly meets Blofeld for the first time on a few different occasions, for example. In fact, I would recommend not trying to hold the movies to any kind of continuity because the movies constantly violate stuff that came before.

It's funny you say that, but A View to a Kill is actually the lowest-rated official 007 movie on Rotten Tomatoes (excluding the 1967 Casino Royale), with a rating of 36%.

I know critics savaged it at the time, but I think it's because they were tired of Roger Moore. Looking at it retrospectively, there is a lot of good stuff in it.

I also call bullshit on those RT ratings. Die Another Day has 57% and yet I've never met anyone who likes it.

  4. I think Paul was overselling that 'badness' of View to a Kill - maybe to justify doing it on the podcast.

His mocking of the trailer was weird - it was just like every other action movie trailer from the '80s.

It seems like this is just an excuse to crossover with James Bonding, which is fine.

But View to a Kill is a middle of the road Bond movie - there are at least five (Moonraker, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, The World is not Enough and Quantum of Solace) that are WAY worse in my opinion.

  5. Tanya Robers is terrible in A View to a Kill, but I still think Halle Berry is much worse as Jinx.

The only reason I can of that they are doing this movie is that it will be a crossover with James Bonding. I think A View to a Kill is coming up in their running order.

I don't think it'd really be an issue, as far as I can tell they have many mutual friends in the comedy world and many that have Earwolf crossover (Tom was on Analize Phish and Fogelnest Files, Paul Scheer shouted out Tom and The Best Show in a recent AVclub interview after the Wolfpop lauch). PFT might be all over Earwolf shows but he has no stake in any of them, if people like Jen Kirkman arn't taking sides I think it would be pretty petty and unprofessional for Scott to. whatever Tom and PFT personal issues they don't seem to be forcing it on other people. as far as the throwing out the cd's thing, anyone who listens to the Best Show understands how thats mostly Tom's on air persona talking

I get that, but there was a palpable sense of disgust in Tom's voice the times he talked about throwing out the CDs. More than usual and not in a Garry Shandling/Chuck Woolery kind of way.

That said, I would be thrilled to see Tom and PFT make up. I would love to hear Paul on the new incarnation of The Best Show.

Tom made a really nice gesture when he thanked PFT during the last WFMU show.

What is the PFT situation? I know they were working on a show together that obviously didn't happen.....

Specifics aren't known, but it's clear that they don't speak anymore. Tom used to refer to PFT as "that comic in LA who doesn't talk to me anymore". He even said once that he had gleefully thrown out all of "that comic's" CDs.

  8. Really loving all of these episodes, though trying to stream them on Stagebloc has been extremely frustrating at times due to constant restarting/refreshing.

The Festival Supreme show in particular was fantastic, as Zach, (Adam) Scott, and Traci were all so game for things to get really crazy; shame it's so short. Still, I would pay beaucoup dollars for video footage of the Would You Rather? on that one.

I was there - the way all four of them wandered around the stage was fucking hilarious.
