Episode 11 β Tig Notaro
therealjayknox replied to JulyDiaz's topic in By The Way, In Conversation with Jeff Garlin
It wasn't passive-aggressive. It wasn't aggressive at all. It was clearly polite and tried to find the respectable positives in this. It wasn't sarcastic either. But feel free to print this page out and proudly tape it to your wall as a 'Reading Incomprehension Certificate', good for you! (see, I think that last part was more 'passive-aggressive') -
Episode 11 β Tig Notaro
therealjayknox replied to JulyDiaz's topic in By The Way, In Conversation with Jeff Garlin
Oh dear.. well I'm not going to be negative about a guest so let me say this - I enjoyed how much Jeff Garlin seems to LOVE Tig Notaro and was himself delighted with her comedy stylings. -
No, not just you. I also enjoy their delight but in this case they were extremely into the character names, scenes and a lot of things weren't raving about ridiculous mistakes but just genuine praise and excitement over scenes or characters or the good and more credible parts. Which is still entertaining but I'm still the 'odd man out' and not sharing the glee. I still enjoy watching (listening) the fun. I just wish I could be part of it. This one.. no.. it did nothing for me. thinking of them as superheroes (and I agree) but made it duller for me. Oh well.. I have a pretty good 90%+ match for the movies on here. Can't expect to jive with all of them.

<<--------- these smileys indicate my sadness when a HDTGM episode can be so psyched about a movie that I found a complete waste of time. None of this was 'so-bad-its-good' or so bonkers stupid it made me happy. I did appreciate some of it - throwing people through brick walls, the ridiculousness of living awesome lives in Brazil IF ONLY they could get back to their shltty house back home etc. But man.. everyone was SO HAPPY and I was just like a foreigner simply missing out. Honestly I just find these movies mostly boring and wasting my time. But hey.. I'm happy everyone else seemed to get something from it!

First time I ever watched one of these 'Fast and Furious' Car movies. I hate them. This one is in gloomy shitty looking Russia so its especially bleak with the that moody.. suicidal depression feel. Lots of scenes of 'The Rock' walking around with super-pumped arm muscles. A lot of car chases. I have always found car chases boring as hell. I still do. Turns out Vin Diesel is the worst actor ever. He just blurps the lines out. Could someone mention what I'm calling 'movie driving face'. It's this self-important squinting seriousness look.. UGH.. it gave me douche-chills every time I saw that stupid 'serious smug driving face' blerggggg! Painkillers!

I swear that ridiculous animated gif has made me laugh out loud no less than a dozen times... just out of nowhere I think of it and start laughing. Whoever did that - I declare you the greatest effing animator ever.. holy that was great!

Episode 37 β Bread and Butter
therealjayknox replied to admin's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
For the kids (or history buffs in general) more must-see 80s TV: 'That's Incredible!' was appointment television that stopped the planet with astonishing feats, skydivers, stunts and.. wait for it.. wait for it.. stovetop cats! 1:07 on YT clip I guess this was our 'youtube' back then. It was a monster TV show. -
Very very high! It's called Tramadol and yes it helps non-forum related injuries and thank you very much for not judging!
-
It was made very clear I was high on painkillers. Nevertheless I accept your bewildering fake apology.
-
Uh so let me be clear so you 'know what I'm talking about'. I did not know the movies in the polls are selected by Shannon or someone else. To be clear: My browser crashed at the FYI page and I have carried on assuming its a choice of any film listed on 'Rotten Tomatoes' website. I carried on according to this assumption. Got it? Exactly.
-
All beside the intended point - Most of us are going to pick our biggest disappointment. What's the worst movie I can think of to click today? X-Men 3! That wasn't nearly as good as the first two! Return of the Jedi! OMG the Ewoks! Hey.. I would pick all three of those Lucas ones and especially that one with Jar Jar Binks guhhh! I remember a lot of stand-up comedians would say "..ya and Hollywood gave us 'Howard the Duck'" so that's my #1 pick and what other movies did everyone hate .. oh ya... 'The NOT Happening' everyone laughed on SNL Weekend review. Speaking of SNL - I'm picking SNL after the original cast left. It was never funny after that.

I think I mentioned the problem of 'knowingly camp' in Birdemic 2 but it was given as an example of a truly terrible movie on every level that won't get a lot of votes (or any) on the FYI charts. Star Trek Into the Darkness was given as an exaggerated example of the kinds of movies that I fear dominating the FYI Top Spots. Wolverine 2 doesn't need to be a truly terrible film on every level but it violates some nerd expectations and you could expect 200 votes "Do THIS piece of crap!". I'm going over there to vote Star Trek into the Darkness since it really let me down - I expected it to be be better than the first but it wasn't! Roast this one!
-
I was high on pain killers but I'm about right on all my points. Oh, and I'm the one who doles out the slack (or not). Do better next time.
-
See, hate to be a bummer but I already sense a problem with this cry for 'The Happening'. I wonder when 'Star Trek into The Darkness' hits #1 spot? You see what I mean here - the top picks will be loaded with big budget event films that disappointed whatever demographics.. trekkies/book-loyal fans/comic fans. 'The Happening' is an odd one. I insist it was (or rather - was partly) very well done, had a cool look and feel, had plenty of good possibilities and wasn't any more a 'stupid plot' than would be most episodes of The Twilight Zone, but.. .. M. Night explained that there was a major problem with the studio and a demand for a cash haul AND (so I recall) they made an impossible deadline on it. He quickly hacked together what they had shot and spent the remaining time and budget on cash-grabbing gory and outrageous scenes for a money-luring trailer. Maybe out of spite? To me this isn't nearly as good an HDTGM roast as something like 'Birdemic 2' or something that is non-stop ridiculous on every level. with something like 'The Happening' or the Star wars 'Prequels' I kinda do know how it got made. In a way I was FAR MORE DISAPPOINTED in those for sure!, but, I'm not really watching in zany bewilderment at hilarious badness on all the levels (especially unnecessary or inexplicable badness). btw - watched Birdemic 2 last night and the only problem is that you must believe its deliberately spoofing badness. (which takes away from the real fun), but I kinda think it was actually bad.. I mean so bad... its really mind-boggling but its worse than the original somehow.

so what - I got a good laugh at the very idea, the graphic alone and finding out there actually was a 5 minute podcast - which was better than about 69% of the podcasts on here. And you know that too. 5 thumbs up!

Episode 36 β I Didn't Get The Memo!
therealjayknox replied to admin's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Normally I hate these characters that show up but Gary worked. But he main thing is that Andy Kindler and Fogelnest are back together for the greatest podcast gold ever. "You just got Kindled" (and I liked it!) is my pick for podcast merch (bumper sticker and/or tshirt) combined. -
I'm glad so many other people noticed this - Fred Stoller was an absolutely amazing guest! Damn he was almost TOO observant to keep up with and freaking hilariously so. Sorry i can't get past the woman that effs chinese men to death or , as Stoller points out - almost 'horror movie' like film footage of couples in the park. "you get left with a soundtrack and a recording of yourselves in the park" holy efff that was funny. Anyways - great episode (although I felt strangely depressed over the weird darkness of this one) and please please have Fred Stoller back soon!!

I'm using Opera (latest) on Windows 7 and I suppose I've been too lazy to try it using Chrome - I just know that the FYI page = angry browser crashing lock-up on my stupid computer *Oh.. I should mention it's when I go to 'recommendations'. It's almost like it trying to load a super-long long single page. In the Chrome browser it will eventually load as a 'page 1'. But Opera gets angry and refuses to play.
-
Unfortunately, the new FYI page locks up my browser/computer so i won't be participating but its a good idea - although there will be no 'birdemics' or 'sleepaway camps' but mostly big budget Sci-fi type movies.

Episode 9 β Michael Moore
therealjayknox replied to admin's topic in By The Way, In Conversation with Jeff Garlin
Disappointed this huckster and harmful deceiver gets 2 hours on what is an excellent podcast. Unlike Moore I will give a rational non-conspiracy theory explanation for myself: I live and work in Mainland China. Better yet, one of my friends out there works in one of those Apple factories. So let's establish something: Factory jobs are HARD WORK. Millions of Americans work in factories in the USA and factories (shocker) are often loud and dusty and very ugly looking. Oh dear they have like.. just steel and concrete floors and are totally scary looking! Actually a good many California factories are old, ugly, damp, filthy and horrible. But the ones in Mainland China are, on the whole, MORE MODERN, CLEANER AND BETTER THAN USA FACTORIES ON THE WHOLE, and, These are good jobs for Chinese workers. 1. They are jobs. 2. They are reasonably well paying entry-level factory jobs relative to their economy. 3. Michael Moore and Jeff Garland have contributed to HURTING THESE CHINESE WORKERS. About the debunked lie of 'suicide nets'. They are NOT 'suicide nets'. If you still believe they are suicide nets then thats amazing since I've seen such nets and a 90 pound human being would break through them like they didn't exist. Did you see pictures? Yep. Counterfeiting and 'corporate spying' is big business in China. (so is employee theft in general) but in this case the nets are there for a purpose EVERYONE IN CHINA knows - to prevent 'flinging' small parts out windows. With 2,500 people on a shift - it's very easy to get 30 key components 'flicked' out a window into a parking lot where a cohort scoops them up. It's been said this technique has resulted in 'clone devices' being counterfeited within 48 hours! They are not 'suicide nets'. Now.. what HAS HURT Chinese workers making iPhones for the liberal-progressive Apple and its many Occupy Wall Street customers? Jeff and Michael spreading absolute false rumours about the factory. And it happened. You see, the typical iphone making Chinese person is probably a younger unskilled 'immigrant' from Chinas rural areas. These might be 3rd world conditions. (My wifes village still has no electricity, no internet outside cell phones and 1 toilet outside.. which is a hole in the ground). These 'immigrant workers' absolutely want these jobs! These jobs will dramatically improve their standard of living and give them an excellent start to a career. They go there as our gas and oil people go to 'camp'. They sign up 6-month or 10 month contracts which include dorms which look like every other dorm in China AND are better than their homes. The goal is to make and save as much cash possible. When they return home they will dramatically IMPROVE THEIR VILLAGE or home or family's economic conditions. The more over-time the better. The more hours the better. They WANT to earn their way up the ladder to 14 hour days. But you see.. a lot of Michael Moore types put so much shame and pressure on Apple that they ordered companies to REDUCE HOURS for the workers. Who were very offended and hurt by that. Who now have to stay longer to earn as much. Who were counting on those earnings to dramatically improve their savings. So that is how Moore spreads lies and deception and how that HURTS POOR PEOPLE. Oh and by the way - Roger (of Roger and Me) invited him to meet in-person TWO TIMES before the film was finished. 2 times. -
Submit clips here!
therealjayknox replied to jakefogelnest's topic in Submit Clips for The Fogelnest Files
Special request: I am desperately trying to find a clip that I'm convinced Andy Kindler would love. Here is all I can remember: early 90s I think. handsome young stand-up comic (impressionist), dark hair, had only one act which was asking you to imagine if all the singers were eating at the same restaurant. It might go something like this... "Axl rose would be like 'theressss a fly in my soup' and then Elton John would be like "theresss a fly in my soup toooo" and Cher would be like "can I get a napkinnnnn". Does anyone here know this guys name? I'm going blind trying to google up a clip. I really want Andy Kindler to enjoy it! -
It's amazing. Simply amazing - Sleepaway Camp (original) + Return to Sleepaway Camp has to be an episode. Here's the thing with Return to Sleepaway - I am convinced the Director was not doing anything campy, self-effacing, he wasn't playing on the hokey weirdness or sending up his own film. It was not deliberately stupid. Oh no. He genuinely made a 'true sequel' and it was fantastically stupid! PLEASE do an episode on this. A two parter if need be. Just amazing.

Fully on-board with 'Stop or My Mom Will Shoot' which is the best of the best of the worst of Ebert choices choice. err yes. 'North' would not be a 'good bad movie' in my opinion. 'Stop' (as the industry folks called it) is tailor-made for HDTGM Somebody mentioned 'Face Off' - a movie I HATED but all my friends insisted was totally awesome. This reminded me of a radio bit where the late great Patrice O'Neill was convinced 'Face Off' was great but suddenly realized it was truly horrible:
