Hey Guys...I know that we promised that we'd relaunch Shots Fired today, but it's taking more time than we though to get our ducks in a row and then neatly shoot them down. At any rate, we're taping episodes now and are planning for an official comeback on December 5. Thanks for your patience. We appreciate it.

They are not going to be on Earwolf, but the iTunes RSS and Soundcloud will be the same. We'll have a new website too and will probably import the message board and threads -- though this will still be active if people prefer that.

Episode 51 — LIVE from A3C Atlanta w/ Pharoahe Monch
Passionweiss replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Shots Fired
I really appreciate that guys. Honestly, the format depends on the guest/ guests. Sometimes it makes sense to devote it to a city or scene. Sometimes it makes sense to goof off and talk about new music. Sometimes the straight interview just seems obvious. With a guy like Pharoahe, it didn't make sense to do anything but ask about him because he's Pharoahe. We're not really doing an official format change, but we'll be recording in the Cosmic Zoo, Nocando's studio from now on. There will be an announcement on the next show. -
There will be, but there will be changes that we'll be announcing soon.

Thanks guys. Will check that episode out.

I think that's a valid point. They're both in their early 30s and I think would completely acknowledge that pop music isn't made for them. That said, there's probably a litany of younger artists they could rattle off who they do like. I see both sides. I tend to like esoteric obscure rap and mainstream party stuff made by kids. There is stuff like Big Sean that I don't like, but I see it as more than I don't find him a very good rapper or musician. Not that it's not for me, per se. I mean, I do like "Guap," but it's because of the beat.

We didn't invent it, but is quite a source of pride. Good looking out.

Good shot being fired. Him and Marco Rubio manage to attempt to co-opt the music without any regard towards what makes it the way it is. It's like being a Jew for Jesus. By definition, you can't be both.

This needs to happen.

It just said R A G E. So lame. But yet he was so magical.
-
This is brilliant. Thank you.

Haha. No worries. I appreciate it and appreciate the criticism even if it doesn't seem like it. It helps us get better.

I would love to have Z-Ro on. Unfortunately, I don't think he's ever played LA or toured nationally, which makes him hard to have on.

I get that. I just have no room in my listening for stuff like that. I'm happy he makes people happy, but if I wanted to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I'd go there, y'know. I respect B a lot and admire him as a human being, but what an awful performance.

You're excused from skepticism about drinking Bacardi for such a briliant suggestion.

This is true.

This ia awesome. I will do my best to keep smoking my way to entertainment value.

Glad you liked it guys. Thank you.

Glad you liked this one. Thanks for the thoughtful comments guys.

I will field calls about Currensy all day.

Thank you so much, guys. I really appreciate the support and glad you found that interesting. A little different episode for sure,

What's up guys (and our seven female listeners). We're going to be doing a live taping of Shots Fired this Thursday at Lot 1 in Echo Park, with my "2Pac & Biggie" co-author Evan McGarvey and our special guest, Leila Steinberg (2Pac's mentor and first manager). All the details are below. And if you're in New York, come through to my reading on June 4 at Housing Works. There will be a panel discussion and Q&A with myself, Evan, Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg and Duck Down CEO, Dru-Ha. http://passionweiss.com/2013/05/28/book-readings-in-la-new-york-may-30june-4-a-live-taping-of-shots-fired/

I don't really like to get very sincere much because I am actually a sincere person and whenever sincerity is translated to an online platform, it tends to flatten out and get oddly saccharine. But honestly, this comment means the world to me (and I'm sure it will to Nocando when I pass it onto him). Most of what I do is either insidiously underpaid or not paid at all -- far more than you think. So comments like this operate as token currency and are immensely appreciated. Thank you so so much for listening/readng and for letting us know.

I think the real point (Kardashian idiocy aside) is that there's a real shallowness to his lyrics and lack of depth. Merely bringing up an issue that's obvious to everyone doesn't necessarily count as genius or insight. He offers no solutions, no critiques that I couldn't read more eloquently stated in an op-ed. It's not even good polemic like say Killer Mike or Shabazz Palaces offer. Hell, it's not even as sharp as Nas' "Untitled" album. It's weak and has Waterboy jokes and horrible puns about being a prick than a swallower. If this was anyone but Kanye, we'd laugh him out of the room. We give him a pass because he has earned it. But this isn't why people liked Kanye. They liked him because he seemed trapped between two worlds. He's no longer that. He's in the big empty room and doesn't even know the way to get back. So he just lobs insults. Also, the point stands: he's a very "I" artist and quite frankly, he doesn't live any of the ideas he espouses. At least not publicly. No one listens to a politician or preacher who lacks authority. The way Kanye lives undermines his ideas. It gives him way less power than he thinks.
