Episode 1405 - Andrew Daly
qrter replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Never Not Funny: The Jimmy Pardo Podcast
They don't seem to know Pardo very well, nor his audience, nor in fact Earwolf's audience, I'd say. -
Not sure if this has been mentioned before in these here forums, but Ken, Sark and Blaine recently appeared on Dana Gould's podcast to talk about D&D. http://www.danagould.com/dungeons-and-bondage/ (Yep, D&D isn't the only subject being discussed..)
-
Haven't listened yet, but that is one maniacal looking Sark pic:
-
Nothing against the lovely dice tower, but I do kind of miss Andrew Dice Tray..
-
Yep. I noticed the picture too, and I even think I might've noticed something in one of the pictures of earlier episodes, but I would never say something unless the person brings it up first. I'm a gentleman, after all!
-
Same here. For me the moment was sealed when they could finally all agree on liking the Pixies. My kind of people!

Boo! More derailments! I love the derailments.

Episode 1325 — Scott Aukerman
qrter replied to Gabe Danon's topic in Never Not Funny: The Jimmy Pardo Podcast
I think this is great. I get why they went for a subscription plan (and that'll still be around), but I always felt that they were missing out on a huuuge potential audience. -
Yep, we're skipping a week. From Brian Posehn's Twitter today:

This is the BEST Christmas EVER!!!! Merry Christmass, everyone.

Fantastic episode, as per usual. We had a slight discussion about casting times in AD&D in one of the episode threads a couple of weeks ago, and 2nd edition rules basically say: So in Blackie's case, his casting time of 3 would mean a +3 to initiative, or at least that the spell would be cast within the same round, and not take 3 rounds to cast. Doesn't mean the gang can't decide to go with their own rules, ofcourse, but that would possibly nerf spellcasters?
-
Nope, that wasn't what I was saying. I said I expected there would've been more to Blackie guessing what was expected from him - it seemed more than a bit of a stretch. Having said that, I can also see how Sark might think "that would take a lot of time, I want to move things along". I'm saying the first would have my personal preference, but I also can understand how Sark might come to a different decision. I'm a master of empathy, me.
-
To be fair, although Chaosounds' post may have been too negative in tone, he does make a point - I also kind of felt Sark was leading Blackie to the right conclusion. There are a lot of jumps in logic, there. I expected at least some kind of Intelligence check for remembering where the airlock actually was - it was only opened for a couple of seconds, without warning. Especially after all the intense skill checks happening before, it all seemed a bit.. too convenient. That said, I also appreciate that Sark might just want the adventure to move the fuck along, and not spend too much time on this stuff.

I quite enjoyed Brian/Damian casting Withering Sarcasm and then glowering: "... good luck..."
-
I looked it up - it's actually simpler than your initiative slot system.. here's what The Holy Text (2nd Ed) says regarding casting time: My interpretation would be, that as soon as your place in the initiative queue comes up, you cast the spell. Your wizard having to mumble the words and do a bit of hand-waving makes it more likely that you will cast your spell later in the round. This would also mean you'd have to state your intention to cast a spell before rolling initiative, and not just when your turn comes up. So in the case of the aforementioned Light, which has a casting time of 1, you'd get a +1 to your initiative roll, but you'd cast the spell that round. All that said, I could also see the fun of OP's initiative segment idea.

At first I also was apprehensive at the idea of someone new invading the basement, but I think Anthony turned out fine - he didn't try to do too much, just let things happen and interjected now and then. He was fun. Nice little reveal on Sir Richard, btw. It's the kind of detail that really fleshes out a character (or in this case, it also de-fleshed him slightly). Please can we have a full list of all of Gerry's character's deaths? 't Is Hallowe'en, after all..

Episode 252 — The Creeeeeeepy Halloween Special
qrter replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I do love the Suicide House episodes, but I'm also completely open to doing something else, as long as it's funny. And that's where it kind of failed, for me. I normally love Paul Rust, but this character was just annoying, and little else. Dykeula was a nice idea, but it never really went anywhere. Actually, I did like Monster Fuck, if only because of the languid, Frank Booth-like pronunciation of "fffffuuuck...", each and every time. -
Exactly this. You can play a whole evening and hardly advance from where you were last time, which is a bit frustrating, but it happens. The banter actually helps, makes it more bearable.
-
When Ken softly said ".. that's the way you do it..", was that a sly Dire Straits reference, what with Sark using the expression 'dire straits' a couple of times in the introductory part of the episode? Anyway - I loved this episode. I loooove the banter, and the references were flying thick and fast in this episode. I actually had to stop what I was doing when Sark did his Italian Woody Allen, I had to laugh so hard. I do like the story, but I don't follow it religiously - for me personally, it's a bit too move from one combat encounter to the next. I prefer the more roleplay-ey kind of game, with more talkin' and shit, you know? I also think the bantering helps to keep the players sharp, especially Brian, who has the tendency to drop off. The banter also reminds me of my own games - it's just a style of playing, really. I know we tried to be more serious about it at a time, but that just didn't work, it just wasn't how we wanted to play the game (and have it be, you know, fun.)

Enjoyment starts even before listening - the mp3 just being named Limp Butt.mp3 That's how I like my mp3s named.

My favourite moment, too. I like how even with all its fire and obscenity, it still came across as slightly understated and strangely tasteful.
-
I'd be interested, too. The only other one I really know is the irregular Penny Arcade podcast, but I have completely soured on PA, what with Krahulik's continuous dickish behaviour.

I want Stargoyle to die. You know he's only in there to sell toys.
-
Darn it. Thanks for the update, though. If I remember correctly, Brian Posehn And Friends will be switching to 2nd edition, after the current adventure/campaign is finished. Personally, I've never really understood why they decided to play 4th ed. when they've always played 2nd ed.
