The Lost Empire is a Hallmark tv movie made in 2001. Somehow they were able to get the actor who played Greg from 'Dharma and Greg.' It received a 5.0 on IMDB which seems pretty generous.
American journalist Nick Orton is caught up in the world of Chinese gods and monsters while on a search for the long lost manuscript to 'Hsi Yu Chi' (The Journey to the West) by Wu Ch'eng En. He is accompanied on his journey by a humanoid ape with incredible strength and magical powers, a humanoid pig-man, and his brother-in-arms, an ex-cannibal. Based on one of the greatest stories in Chinese history.

How fucking good does that sound? Let me also add that 'Greg' gives a 5-10 minute monologue as a head poorly cgi'd onto a fly's body. There are insane CGI effects throughout the whole movie as well. There is a NUTTY scene where Greg is in the belly of a dragon flying through space while it fights another dragon. I caught this scene on TV one of the first times I tried LSD. I literally thought it was an episode of Dharma and Greg gone wrong. How did these dragons get in their apartment?
