Let me rephrase. Diamonds Are Forever is much more terrible. But both are bad movies. Die Another Day at least had the cool fight scene on the plane. Maybe it's because I'm younger but the Richard Branson blood diamond bad guy was much more fun than the Howard Hughes Vegas tycoon bad guy. I'm also upset because in On Her Majesty's Secret Service Bond has to do real spycraft to find Blofeldt but at the beginning of Diamonds are Forever he's just ripping girls' tops off and frightening people to find Blofeldt. Then he gets pulled to an apparently completely different case and, lo and behold, there's the man I was looking for all along! In Die Another Day he finds clues that sequentially lead him to the mysterious billionaire who it turns out is the bad guy he's been looking for. That one makes a little more sense. Granted, not a lot.

fair enough! well argued, all I can say is I just enjoy Diamonds are Forever despite it's flaws, there's enough weirdness that it stays interesting for me, the gay henchmen, whatever the fuck is going on with Bambi and Thumper, Blofeld's inexplicable plan, Connery's unconvincing toupee, Tiffany Case's rapidly diminishing intelligence. Die Another Day I just find tedious and just such an everything but the kitchen sink approach to Bond I find it annoying.

  2. this might be my favorite HDTGM so far. amazing

as a side note, I hate that I'm even saying this because I have a Gourley A View to a Kill type relationship with the movie Caveman, I saw it as a kid and became obsessed with it but when they brought it up I couldn't help but think it would be an incredible film for them to do on this podcast, it's bonkers, in the best way. the fact that more than half the movie's dialogue is in a weird made up caveman language alone is enough to make it a perfect HDTGM movie.

  3. I didn't hear an anti smoking ad either. did Nerd Poker ever do a General Snus ad like Fogelnest Files? maybe Sensei is offended by smokeless tobacco being advertised instead of cigarettes.

  4. oh noes. I just left a terribly embarassing voicemail where I sputter and curse...

trying to record a song on voicemail with no do overs is hard!!

anyway enjoy my xylophone playing and yelling "fuck!" when I get all off track... it might add color or something

  5. "A View to a Kill" is basically Walken doing a great Walken imitation, surrounded by a pretty bad movie. I would put this Walken performance almost up there with "Seven Psychopaths," "Suicide Kings," "Biloxi Blues," and "Annie Hall." His smile right before he dies is an AWESOME choice. I might take Walken and Barden as the best Bond villains. By the way, check out Walken's IMDB. WTF? "The Deer Hunter," "Balls of Fury," "King of New York," "The Country Bears," "Domino," "Kangaroo Jack," etc.? My theory is that Walken has two agents, one who went to NYU film school and one who is illiterate and hates him.

wait. are you lumping Deer Hunter and King of New York in with Country Bears and Kangaroo Jack? what universe do you live in?

  6. I remember watching this as a young kid and there was the implied sex scene between Roger Moore and Grace Jones. Even as a seven-year-old, I shook my head at that. There is no amount of quantum mechanics that would produce a universe where someone with a body like Grace Jones to have sex with someone with a body like Roger Moore. This took me right out of the movie...and I was just a kid. The technobabble goobledly-goop on Transformers was more believable.

I thought it was Christopher Walken basically telling her to fuck him. I could be wrong I've watch A View to a Kill in the last like 6 months or so but I haven't seen in recently.

  7. agreed that the show isn't up to the podcast but I still love it and every episode usually has at least a couple of great moments. This last one with Jon Daly was a liiittttle weird with his Bill Cosby Bukowski. Just bad luck it aired at this time. Still laughed at the absurdity of Daly in a cosby sweater playing such a ridiculous character. I wonder what a non podcast listener made of it.

yeah Bill Cosby Bukowski used to be my favorite character but everything lately has made "Who is the most fuckable Huxtable?" very uncomfortable

Yes. It's soooo fucking boring, especially the first half. I really don't even think it's bad in a fun way, just straight up bad.

I have to agree to an extant, I don't think A View to a Kill is that bad, I'm biased because I love Bond movies even the shitty ones, and I have a maybe masochistic affection for the Roger Moore era, but there are so many other Roger Moore Bond's that are bad but also more fun to watch, like Live and Let Die is this crazy racist attempt at a blaxploitation movie that ends with Yaphet Koto being inflated like balloon and Bond in Harlem acting like he just landed on Mars. or Man With the Golden Gun which has Roger Moore fight Herve Villacheze then lock him in a suitcase and both have a recurring racist country sheriff character, J W Pepper. or Octopussy were the climax involves Bond dressing up like a clown and infultrating circus to disarm a hidden nuke, also it has a woman it it named Octopussy!
