  1. i think it is just an instance where the demos for this show skew towards a lot of us knowing what street fighter is and knowing what it is for most of our lives. i dont expect them to know much about it. i have a greater expectation of them to know more about the original wicker man than they did for that episode but it was still enjoyable and probably better off than constantly allusions to the effect of "well originally it was supposed to be like THIS"

edit oh dang got beaten on this point like a dude from bushido blade or whatever. video games.

  2. Re: E Honda being Hawaiian in the film.

In Japan, with the Sumos in 1993 there was a Yokozuna, Sumo champion, who was Hawaiian, not Japanese.

So, Hawaiian Yokozuna in 1993 and a Hawaiian E Honda in 1994. Seems like they were paying tribute to Akebono.

fucking ridiculous that im distinguishing game cannon here from all other forms of street fighter media but i had it in my head for some reason that honda was a citizen of both england and japan in the games. unsure if this cannon was recognized in street fighter: second life: the game: the life

  3. i would guess it's more the placement and timing of the message than anything. like all the characters pose like they do from a video game, right after zangief and honda do their godzilla thing, then suddenly there's a black screen with white text that attempts to quickly hit a solemn note. but idk, i havent seen this movie in a couple years so maybe it isn't quite as weird as that.

  4. Why was the movie called 'Street Fighter' and not 'Stupid Confusing Stakes during an International Crisis Fighter'? Hell, Capcom, the game's developers, re-released the original video game a few years ago with the title 'Fighting Street', so I'm not sure even they could tell you what the title means.

in fairness, fighting street was a port and originally released in the 80s, which i would assume is the ultimate excuse for anything weird and almost inexcusable.

  5. See, I kinda liked this movie. I thought the fight scenes were the only redeeming quality. I like the RZA, but the fatal flaw in this movie was casting himself as the lead. He cannot act. He should have gone to Spike Lee route and give himself a small bit because that is alot to carry --- he acted and directed this movie. I thought he did a better job of directing.

i love rza and agree - his scenes had the, uh, most dramatic weight, i guess, and he had no chance of keeping up. i had fun with this movie but i still know it's not very good at all and if i didn't already like rza and wu-tang i may not have been able to finish it.

not that i didn't really enjoy Doughy Russell Crowe.

  6. here comes probably my most vulnerable and embarrassing post yet, but: cammy's signature move is cannon spike where she kicks upward, so maybe she was screaming that? im not really convinced tho, since she was my main in the series for a while and knew what she was supposed to yell there but still couldn't hear it.

but it's definitely a fun movie and a lot of the throw-away lines are pretty good. it's a movie that knows exactly what it's supposed to be and revels in it, which is also why i really like cool as ice. really the only part that is forgettable and doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the movie is the whole charlie/blanka thing, but i feel like this movie actually retconned that character? i thought in the second video game blanka was basically given the story of "oh, look at this weird thing that was found in the amazon."
