So going through this movie it clearly pulled a lot of inspiration from other uncharacteristic romcoms like 10 Things I Hate About You/Taming of the Shrew,

On IMDB, there are like a thousand movie connections added for various releases of Taming of the Shrew. Someone had a lot of time on their hands for this movie.

  2. Sorry, it's my pet peeve when people say "Canadian accent."

There are people who can explain this better than I can, but there is no "Canadian accent."  When people say that, they are thinking of an Ontario or Alberta accent. I am from Newfoundland (pronounced New-Found-LAND) and no one talks with what people would call a Canadian accent. We sound Irish.

  3. I think they have to be animals that people don't mind seeing being CGi-killed. It's always sharks, piranha, snakes, bugs, dinosaurs, alligators or mythical beasts like the yeti. You can also throw in ghosts and/or the weather. Dogs have to be Hellhounds. Tigers have to be Attack of the SaberTooth.

Write all those things on pieces of paper, pull 2 out of a hat and you have your next Syfy movie. If you only do a storm, you have to pick a city or holiday. (Miami Magma, NYC Tornado Terror, Seattle Superstorm, Snowmageddon)

    Supergator

    DinoCroc

    Ghost Storm

    Mosquito Man

    Mongolian Death Worm

    Sharktopus

    Chupacabra vs The Alamo

    Piranhaconda

    Frankenfish

    etc.....

So my #1 problem when it comes to the logistics of the weather is that they completely threw out from the get go the fact that if you are outside during a tornado that is strong enough to pick up multiple sharks then you are not going to be able to stand in the storm and fight said sharks. It made me so mad to watch Nova and Fin and whatever the fuck Frankie Muniz's character was named stand in the middle of some tornado and fight these stupid sharks. It never even looked like anything more than just the fog that hits the bay area in the morning hours.

Yeah, I meant to mention this too. There are cars being flipped over and buildings are being destroyed but the people aren't being picked up or even barely bothered by the wind.

  5. On a separate point, I expected them to bring up the fact that, according to IMDB, the crew was fired when they asked for a union contract, and " the majority of the film was shot with a replacement crew of unskilled technicians."

    Any verification there?

They did mention it. Scott said as long as they were WGA he could still do it.

  6. I was listening to an episode of Chris Jericho's podcast from last week, either the episode where he had Ian Zeiring on or maybe the one after that, where he was talking about how ridiculous Universal Studios was with how they're park was portrayed in the film. Jericho played Bruce, the ride operator (which was also the name of the mechanical shark from "Jaws"), and the Universal Studio people made him cover up his arms, because he has tattoos, and they don't allow their employees to have visible tattoos. In a movie about tornadoes made of sharks murdering people in their park, they're concerned with the employee dress code.

He also said something about not really being given direction when it came to his death scene, like to just act like he was dying horribly, not knowing where the sharks were coming from or where he was being bitten.

That's episode 163, Jericho reviews the movie with his son.

  7. Brody. Quint. Why wasn't anything named after the real hero of Jaws: Mayor Larry Vaughn?

    The son was named Vaughn.

Also, at least when Regis was on the show, they used to tape the show then also tape more interviews for later shows. That's why sometimes you'd notice that Kelly would be wearing different outfits in the opening and the interviews.

Edited to also add: Tara Reid's book was about how to survive a sharknado, so I think that's why Fin knew exactly what to do.

  8. I've been hearing forest porn coming up a lot lately, and it's been talked about in the last two episodes of "Go Bayside!" as well. Maybe it stemmed from the "No Holds Barred" episode here, but I'd really like to think that we're just in the middle of seeing a full-blown forest porn revival.

I never heard of forest porn before Jason mentioned it, then I also heard it on Go Bayside and it's so strange! I went from never hearing of it to hearing it three times in a few weeks.

  9. I agree with the group that it seemed like Nova and Fin were supposed to get together. I also find it really weird that the first actor billed in the opening credits is Tara Reid, when the actual star gets an "And Ian Ziering" at the end of it, like he's a special guest.

That's supposed to be prestigious. You notice it on some TV shows. Like on American Horror Story. It's everyone else, AND Jessica Lange at the end.
