    Episode 62.5 — Minisode 62.5

So are you a fucking dick in real life or just online? I apologize for not realizing you were making these long posts detailing what was wrong with the FYI site without having any idea how it works. I guess I should have realized you were just talking out of your ass. Once again, my most sincere apologies. Now feel free to respond with a lame post where you accept my apology and try to be funny.

    Episode 62.5 — Minisode 62.5

I have to say I really don't know what Jay Knox is talking about. The movies in the polls are selected by Shannon or somebody else so Star Trek Into Darkness would never be #1 because it would never be included in a poll. As far as The Happening, In Time is just as much of a big budget hollywood release as The Happening yet it only has a couple hundred votes. The reason The Happening is such a popular pick is because it is complete dog shit. Did it look ok? Sure I'll give you that. Did it have some good possibilities? I guess, but doesn't every movie have the possibility of having something good happen? Did it have a laughably bad and monotone performance from its lead actor Marky Mark and the funky bunch sans the funky bunch? Most definitely. Was the plot as stupid as most episodes of The Twilight Zone? I wouldn't say that but even if that were true you're comparing the plot of a film from 2008 to the plot of a half hour sci-fi t.v. show that began airing 10 years before we even went to the moon. I don't really see the point in that comparison. The fact is The Happening is a realy reall really shitty fucking movie. It has horrible writing, horrible acting, people doing really stupid things, an annoying fat kid doing really stupid things, and Marky Mark talking to a fake plant.

    Episode 62.5 — Minisode 62.5

There is no way they're getting Zooey. M. Night recently posted a pic of him, Zooey, and Mindy Kaling with the caption"Old friend, new friend" so she is not going to trash the film nor would she appreciate a semi reccuring character on her hit show doing so. I would imagine she is actually fairly proud of what is by far her biggest movie role to date. And with this being the first poll I could see a mistake being made and a movie that's off limits being included, especially when this first poll is the 10 most requested picks and The Happening is certainly that. And if this is the case I hope they just admit it and don't try to put off doing it or say they're doing Howard the Duck because they think it would make a better episode. Also when Dan said "Should the gang eventually get around to reviewing The Happening" it struck me as an odd way of putting it. And his subsequent use of humor to avoid my request for clarification was somewhat telling.

The Zouks is definitely up to doing The Happening. I've heard him say on this podcast and YMIW that "they need to do it". Don't tell the Zouks what the Zouks wants to do. And I guess what I mean is that given how much time and effort was put into creating the site and how many people have voted, if the clear winner in the inaugural poll wasn't selected, which it was stated that we were "voting on the next pick", than that would be a little strange to say the least. If they had no intention of doing a movie that was voted on by the clear majority of the fans than it doesn't make much sense to have put it in the very first poll of this site that has been talked about for months.

Sorry but a movie about nature trying to wipe out humanity could only have one guest, the great Werner Herzog. What do you mean by eventually get around to reviewing it? I thought the poll was to pick the next movie.

    Episode 62.5 — Minisode 62.5

That's a good point. I also just looked at The Happening wikipedia page and one of the three credited producers has produced Judd Apatows last few movies so although I hope it's not the case maybe he doesn't want to hurt future movie role chances. The thing is, if they don't do the movie that comes in first it makes absolutely no sense to put it in the poll to be voted on.

Eh, I'm sure you guys are right and I'm just looking too far into this. I've just had so much hatred since I saw The Happening , I don't think I've ever hated a movie I saw in the theater more than this one, that I really need to hear these guys rip this thing apart.

    Star Trek: Into Darkness

Even though it's unnecessary I'll go ahead and pile on, this is about as pointless a post as you can make on this forum. If you're going to recommend this movie you may as well recommend every big budget sci-fi and action movie. If you can't look past any "plot holes" there may be than I would hate to see any sci-fi or action movie, which these Star Trek movies are much more than sci-fi, with you in the theater. There have also been multiple examples of the Enterprise entering planets atmospheres throughout the history of the Star Trek series' so it's not like this is unheard of in the Star Trek universe. There's a really good review on Redlettermedia.com of the first Abrams Star Trek that makes the point that while it's more fantasy than sci-fi than what Star Trek was originally meant to be, it has to be to appeal to the masses. There is plenty for Star Trek nerds to nitpick in the two Abrams movies but the fact is they're fun, well made action movies and if you can't enjoy them for what they are than I feel bad for you.

It's not so much that they're not doing it this week as much as him not mentioning The Happening at all when talking about the FYI site. It just seems like he would've mentioned the movie that is far and away the most popular pick when talking about the brand new site that was made to find out what movie the fans most want to see done. My prediction: He's hoping the voting tightens up enough so when he picks Space Jam or Howard The Duck he can say it will make for the better episode than The Happening and since they were within a couple few hundred votes they were all movies we wanted to see done.

    Episode 62.5 — Minisode 62.5

I get the feeling Paul doesn't want to do The Happening for some reason and is trying to avoid having to do it. The Happening has almost 2000 votes and has 700 more votes than 2nd and, without mentioning The Happening at all, Paul mentions Space Jam and Howard The Duck and basically tells people to vote for them. No matter how long you leave the poll up I don't see anything moving ahead of The Happening. If you don't want to do a movie maybe don't put it in the poll.

    Episode 220 — 4 PayDays & A Baby

I'm hoping for Mantzoukas and Andy Daly doing any character, old or new. But Bob Ducca would be great as well.

I never had that thought but I wouldn't mind seeing that movie.

    Face/Off

In Travolta's case the fact he's a scientologis has a lot to do with him staying in the closet. Although the "church" claims to be more inclusive, homosexuality is still considered a cureable disease so it wouldn't look very good if one of its most high profile members was gay.

    The Boondock Saints (1999)

This is certainly not a great movie but I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I agree with Ryan that the way we see the crimes through the eyes of Willem Dafoe is interesting and there were also several genuinely funny moments throughout. I think the biggest reason there's so much hate, and I can certainly understand, is how annoying fans of it are and how big of a dick Troy Duffy is. He actually got a tattoo of one of the symbols that the brothers had on his forearm. That's gotta be the saddest thing I've ever heard. And while I like the first one for what it is the second one is pure shit. The only good thing about it is the commentary, as anybody who has seen Overnight knows this guy has a huge ego and it's amazing to hear him talk about how great Boondock Saints 2 is.
  16. The lyrics to Push It To The Limit are perfect for Scarface and especially for that montage. Push it to the limit Walk along the razor's edge but don't look down, just keep your head and you'll be finished Open up the limit past the point of no return You've reached the top but still you gotta learn how to keep it Push it to the limit (The limit) With no one left to stand in your way you might get careless, but you'll never be safe while you still feel it

    Let June speak!

Jason and Paul talk over everybody, including eachother, so I don't see what the big deal is. When June has something she really wants to say she says it, otherwise she'll let them talk. A podcast like this, or any podcast really, has to have somebody driving the conversation and there are going to be people getting cutoff. June seems to let Paul and Jason drive most of the shows while still saying plenty. I also agree that June has been really good these last few weeks. I'm not sure if Paul and Jason have made it a point to let her speak more or if she has just had more memorable things to say, but I've always thought she was great on the show and think the three of them have maybe the best chemistry out of any podcast I've heard.
  18. After I made my post I almost deleted that I thought he was an alright actor. You're spot on with why he was fine in Boogie Nights and I think Bale's performance in The Fighter made me like Wahlberg's performance more than I normally would have. Another role he was alright in because it's a Marky Mark type role is Basketball Diaries. As far as M. Night goes, I can't wait to see what kind of performance he gets out of Jaden Smith.

    Episode 219 — Farts and Procreation 3

Anybody who doesn't find Marissa Wompler funny shouldn't be listening to this podcast. The Christmas Womptacular special is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
  20. In the right hands Marky Mark can be a pretty good actor, Boogie Nights and The Fighter being the best examples, but in the wrong hands you get his performance in The Happening. While Wahlberg deserves some of the blame the director is usually responsible for this type of performance. Hayden Christensen is a good actor but if you only went by the Star Wars prequels you'd think he was a no talent hack and it's all due to Lucas not understanding how human beings interact with eachother. Same goes for this one, M. Night must have liked what Whalberg was doing and when you're not that great of an actor as long as the director is happy there's no reason to change anything. I recently looked at the top critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and saw a number of them mentioned what a good performance Marky Mark gave, does anybody here think he did a good job?
  21. Goodfellas was more about the mob and the innerworkings of it whereas Scarface was all about a guy who thought he deserved to be treated like a god and was then given that power in addition to becoming a huge coke head. Goodfellas wasn't really trying to be a 70's or 80's movie while a good deal of Scarface was about showing all the excessess of the 80's. Henry Hill was a guy who, for the most part, wanted a normal life and family while Tony Montana just wanted to be the biggest, most badass drug dealer in the world. These two movies were telling completely different stories with Scarface making a point to show what an over the top decade the 80's were, especially if you were the #1 drug dealer in Miami. So while I agree it was over the top I disagree that they could have made it without it being. Goodfellas told the story of a fairly normal guy who worked for the mob and lived a pretty normal life. While Scarface tells the story of the #1 drug dealer in Miami during the 80's. I'm guessing the latter would be a bit more over the top than the former.
  22. The whole point of the movie is to show the excesses of top level drug dealers in the 80's so how else can you do that without being over the top? Murder is treated casually to show how casually these people treat murder. Pacino acts over the top because that is how an immigrant criminal who came from nothing would act if he suddenly became the top cocaine dealer/user in America. Tony was always a little larger than life but he didn't act all that crazy from the start, it was a journey that we went on with him that climaxed with the huge pile of cocaine on his desk. They wouldn't do this movie because it's a well made movie that stands the test of time, not because they have fond memories of it from their youth.

    Grindhouse(Planet Terror and/or Death Proof)

Even though I think the Lord of the Rings movies are responsible for the way he's making The Hobbit I don't think he'll have extended editions like he did for Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit was much shorter than any of The Lord of the Rings books and I can't imagine him making the first Hobbit movie even 5 minutes longer. I really hope Jackson is able to look at The Hobbit objectively and realize there's no reason for the next two to be over 2 hours a piece.

    Demolition Man

This is the perfect type of movie for HDTGM. There's obviously a lot of craziness, some not so great acting, and all the dramatic heartfelt moments are laughably lame. Yet it's also a really fun movie to watch whether you like it or not, I personally love this movie. I wish they would've done this rather then Judge Dredd but now that we have a weekly poll I think this has a good shot at gettting done eventually.
  25. I think this has already been suggested but now that it seems like this is definitely going to happen I'd like to repeat it, Werner Herzog has to be the guest. I know they don't do characters on HDTGM but it seems like all of Herzog's podcast appearances have been leading up to doing this movie.
