I think I remember hearing that on one of her YMIW appearances with Pete Holmes. And yeah, it's super funny -- all the episodes she's been on are hilarious. But yeah, I've never heard of anyone calling out other names or had it happen to me. Come to think of it, who even says their partner's name during sex? That would be weird, wouldn't it? Am I weird? Everyone always says "oh yeah, babe" or whatever. "Fuck me harder, Nathaniel" would be a boner killer.

Sidehackers is hilarious to me, because was "sidehacking" even a fucking thing? It must have been popular in the Midwest or somewhere for like a month, long enough that someone thought they should make a movie about it. And I love Servo's little "Woo-hoo, sidehackin', y'all" sing song bits, and then one of the best song segments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4QQY3in8CQ Also, did you know this trivia about that episode?

Whew, that was just too meta for me at first.

Unless the person with final cut is David Lynch. Jesus, that Tori Amos hip-hop song is fucking atrocious. And like Jason said, that would drive you insane! I worked at a Borders for about six months and their constant Jack Johnson nearly destroyed me; I can't even begin to think what Tori Amos would do.

One of my favorite contemporary authors, Jonathan Lethem, who one would believe to be above something like this (them high-falutin' fancy ass liberals), wrote a gobsmackingly good book on They Live. It breaks it down, scene by scene, and is both entertaining and illuminating. I highly recommend it.

Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD (1998)

I'm not sure if even Samuel Jackson is this badass: -
Yeah, I'm halfway through and am enjoying Drew's amusement. It's kinda like the Comedy Bean Bag a couple of weeks ago with Bamford and Tom Leykis; she hardly got anything in at all but her laughter was so contagious and totally worth it. It is very interesting when the guests come from a critical background rather than comedy. It's nice to get more background on the films -- like the fact that this screenplay wasn't a fever dream and took ten(!) years to write. I do wonder how many parents got pissed off when they took their kids to this. I imagine my mom was probably uncomfortable during the sex scene.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
PhillipMedoc replied to DieFledermaus's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Hey, thanks for the reminder. I need to watch this with commentary, which means even though it's on Netflix I have to rent the dvd. Off-topic, but that's one thing that's always annoyed me about video streaming services -- they never have commentary tracks. I subscribed to Hulu because they have Criterion movies but without the commentary it's not really worth it. I know a lot of the time those tracks are garbage but sometimes they're practically another film inside themselves (see: drunk commentary on Cannibal! The Musical, or any John Carpenter movie with him and Kurt Russell). -
Has any other director ever literally fought his critics?

I believe you're attempting to make a joke about a wonderful film called Night Of The Hunter?

Commando is fucking custom built for HDTGM, the first five minutes alone. Ahnuld just hanging out with Samantha Milano is fucking hilarious. The compound storming sequence in the final act is insane, and then the final boss fight is fucking NEXT LEVEL.

Mind = blown. I need to rewatch this some time; it's been years. This is actually my least favorite Luc Besson film that I have seen; my Mom took me to see The Big Blue as a kid and that made a very strong impression on me. I used to have dolphin dreams for years after that, I still vividly remember a couple of them. Interesting to note, Besson married Jovovich after The Fifth Element, and they then divorced two years later after completing that Joan of Arc film. Seems like Besson's kinda been flopping around in the last decade or so; correct me if I'm wrong. Thinking of the Toys episode, it seems like The Fifth Element definitely falls under the "director's dream project" category.

Didn't you predict this exact line in the minisode thread? Haven't listened yet, I gotta say that this is not a guest I expected. Dreams = crushed. Everyone who didn't watch this movie, you should still check it out -- at least the first 30 minutes or so, just to appreciate the visual style. Yes. There's no emoticon for my bummerpants. I was very much looking forward to June's insight on this one.

Aw shit, it's on Netflix. This could be a laundry/chores/background flick tonight. Was it interesting? I mean, I'm the guy who championed Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3.
-
I remember you disliking at least one other HDTGM movie (Fast 6, perhaps) which other people generally liked. So now I'm curious what your taste is like. What are some of your favorite movies or directors? Not trying to argue or anything, I'm genuinely interested.

Or the fact that they're getting slammed and punched like linebackers, without the benefit of protection, sometimes for decades. I imagine I'd be addicted to painkillers, too.
-
You think so? I would disagree. It's got a particular style and vision but it's more art deco, childhood imagery, French paintings, militarism, etc. When I think of early 1990s film, I think of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Terminator 2, Addams Family, Wayne's World -- all of which, to me, are much more quintessentially products of their time.

With all the projects he (and June and Jason) have going on simultaneously, I'm beginning to ask myself "How did HDTGM get made?" I'm just a plain ol' nine-to-five dum-dum and have to work out a schedule with maah wife so we can watch a movie together. The fact that they're able to consistently do this (without missing a week, right?) is really a testament to the power of methamphetamine their talent and passion.

Your favorite good bad movies on Netflix or Youtube
PhillipMedoc replied to EricaAsencio-Knox's topic in How Did This Get Made?
It's a good one. The actor in this is Ted Prior, star of dozens of z-grade action movies, and the director is his brother David Prior. I think that is some hidden magic behind what makes Deadly Prey fun. David Prior has DVDs of it for sale on Amazon. And, believe it or not, check out what is in post-production right now: -
WHIMSY.

Ahhh... you know you're a MST3K superfan when you have Mike's books. Have you checked out In The Peanut Gallery With MST3K? It's an awesome book, mostly academic essays; some of the stuff gets redundant, but if you're a fan I highly recommend it. I bought the Kindle version, and then instantly "returned" it (you can do that!) for a refund, but kept it on my device. Sorry to derail. HDTGM needs to do another Seagal movie, the Glimmer Man episode was great fun. I still think On Deadly Ground is the best choice, in my opinion.

I will admit that Gary Oldman's armor in Dracula is very memorable, and they made an interesting choice with his costume as the old Count. I hope Keanu Reeves won a fucking Razzie for that, because it's one of the worst performances from an A-lister of all time; it pretty much ruins the movie, although the film does have other flaws. But Levinson nominated for Worst Director? Come on, that's honestly silly. I know it doesn't mean anything, but I don't think Toys comes to mind as a bad movie. Maybe I'm wrong. It didn't do too bad at the box office for a 1992 movie -- $23 million -- but the next week it got steamrolled by Hoffa, Chaplin, and Scent Of A Woman.

During any given Dragon Sound performance, there's like five people playing guitars. And none of them are plugged in. Edit: Now I think you should grow a mustache. Looks pretty suave on you.

Is this a joke/sketch/improv bit or real? Because it seems like a joke. Edit: Okay, Shariq, you're fucking with me, this is not for real.

The freestyle over the gifts theme ended in a spectacular failure. That was wonderful. "That was an aperitif. That was an amoooose boosh." Even Stard was bringing his A game on this one. Awesome.
