Is this that weird one with Stacy Keach? Nope, I guess not. I watched the trailer, and I guess I have seen this at some point. It's a weird one but not totally worth seeking out unless you really like Pia Zadora (I will admit I have a certain fondness for her). If we're talking Pia Zadora (that name! Why isn't my name that fun?) movies, then clearly the correct choice is Voyage Of The Rock Aliens:

That's boss. It almost looks surfable. Is that really the bay or are you somewhere else? Weather widget says PDX is gonna be in the 90s this weekend so SUM SUM SUMMAH TIME to seek a water spot! Summah pic from my backyard this morning: They are ready!

You running people are crazy, I will never understand you types. 7 miles a day! Next level bonkers! NOTHING! He is so perfect, it's like he's a third host rather than a guest. The way he just rolls with stuff like making the trailers into what he wants to. "We're being attacked by Zs! When people fall asleep, the Zs come out and pretty soon the world is just full of Zs and there's no room for anything else!"

Aw man, really? It's not that bad. I think some credit is due because he was only 24 when he wrote and directed that; I think that's pretty impressive. (I also think it's pretty impressive that my dog can roll over, on command, but maybe that's just me). I haven't watched it in years but there are images that stuck -- I think there are true moments of beauty in all of his films. That scene where the kid is eating spaghetti in the bath and his mom is washing his hair and there's a piece of bacon taped to the wall? That is pure poetry, honest to god.

Uuuugh, you're bumming me out because you're probably on point. I do like him as a person and as an artist, and I guess he's making "Art" and not movies or whatever. I think it's weird Spring Breakers even got a wide release; his last movie was , for fuck's sake. I have respect for creative people doing creative things. That said, the most interesting piece of art Harmony Korine has produced is still this Letterman interview from the mid-1990s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7nrhGQteas

FUCK YES IT IS. Bought it so hard when it dropped last night and I have played it alllllll day. I think one of the Boognish bros mentioned it in the whooch thread but double googles is really stand out. I honestly think this album could be played on college radio stations. Go to Denver! It's a pretty decent city and the Rockies are like, RIGHT THERE. There's some really cool, easy hikes to be had and the scenery is very different from what you're probably used to. Yeah, Double Googles is a jam, I think it's my favorite but I'm just finishing listening to it. Mayor Larry Vaughn is worth $5 alone, so hilarious.

Saw it last night. Wow, you were right. Respect to whatever conglomerate edited this thing. This was a great movie if you like dubstep and punching things. My favorite part was Superman's chest hair. I also felt the border collie really carried this movie; every movie is like 10% better with a border collie.

This is an awesome story. I love hearing about cool old folk because my experience with them growing up was via Reader's Digest and Baptist church. !!!!!!!!!

AAAHHHH At work so I don't have enough time to agree with everyone but this cover art is the best thing since that . Seagull in a waterslide is the new Border Collie with a handkerchief. AMAZING.

Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!
PhillipMedoc replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I haven't listened yet although I want to -- gonna attempt the movie tonight. Buuut... After having the forum freaking out about the FYI voting and conspiracy theories, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to HDTGM and everyone behind them and the people who work on the various websites for giving us such wonderful FREE entertainment and a place to celebrate it with each other. If I could marry this podcast, I would (polygamy is still unfortunately illegal in Oregon). THANK YOU. -
I feel like that's all he's good at. His movies look like really fucking amazing music videos or video games (two mediums which also have major problems with their representation of women and minorities). Is Man Of Steel actually worth sitting through? 2.5 hours is a long ass time, seriously. Almost every big movie this summah is at least 120 minutes long (not that I'm gonna waste my time on World War Zzzzz).

Whoa, that's weird, it quotes something different from what you posting -- guessing you just edited it as I replied. I like classic SP, they still put out albums but it's different; people don't make the same music when they're not junkies. I used to be one of those people who only listened to super obscure music because like, fuck the mainstream, man. I actually had an ambient/experimental radio show for a number of years; another dj at the station did a soul/R&B show and turned me on to a bunch of awesome music. I realized that if I could enjoy great pop music from years past (girl groups like The or and holy shit, is the fucking man) then what's wrong with modern pop music? Sure, a lot of it's garbage, but that's always been the case with everything, still is. So yes, JT's "My Love" is one of the best pop songs from the last ten years and if don't put a smile on your face, you better check to see if your heart's still ticking. sorry, i'm on my lunch break. I can't watch anything longer than 5 minutes on a computer. Yeah, you kinda need to experience the whole thing but like I said, if you don't enjoy something don't force it.

Different boats for different goats. I paid something like $40 for a bootleg VHS of Holy Mountain (and El Topo) on ebay back in the late 90s; I have no regrets. Aside from the yes, craziness of the whole thing, there is an actual narrative and it builds to a conclusion I find very satisfying. The very last scene (why don't we have spoiler tags here?) is one of my favorite moments in the medium of cinema. While the film might seem impenetrable upon first impression, it doesn't even begin to get to the level of nonsense pretentiousness seen in, say, Peter Greenaway (The Falls, A Zed & Two Naughts) or certain films in the Criterion Collection ( , , etc). I guess I'm just one of those people who likes Justin Timberlake as much as I enjoy Skinny Puppy.

Fo sho. PM me when you do. Maaah wife and I have not quite completed our transition into singularity and are still able to interact with other humans, on occasion. Corvallis... I'm guessing you either got a job with HP or OSU.

Please do! It's sooo good. I found out about it on a Robert Z'Dar thread a long time ago on some b-movie forum. Let us know what you think. I actually just watched this for like the tenth time last night while doing laundry. Aaaand... YESSSSS. I don't know what version of the dvd is up on Amazon, but his commentary is much more erudite and hilarious than you'd expect. It's easily on the level of a very good MST3k episode. Joe Bob is actually pretty intelligent; his whole persona is a put on and you can see you much he knows about the language of film if you read any of his books (or if you have the chance to hear his commentary for I Spit On Your Grave; his take on that is really interesting) . The dude's knowledge of b-movies is encyclopedic; he's the Ken Jennings of trash cinema. Seeing him on USA randomly as a kid (we never had cable) was a glimpse into a weird world of movies I had no access to. Anyways, Samurai Cop rules and is easily in my top 10 of entertaining bad/good movies.

Jarry, if you think that's crazy, you should know that Jodorowsky was verrry close to making a movie out of Dune in the 1970s. It actually went into preproduction, several million dollars spent before it was shut down. With H.R. Giger doing set design, Jean "Moebius" Giraud doing character/costume design, and Pink Floyd doing the soundtrack. Yeah, holy shitsnacks. To think what could have been... Probably the most comprehensive source of info is here: http://www.duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowsky/ Apparently there's a documentary about the whole thing coming out later this year. I was under the impression Holy Mountain was fairly well known, or at least Jodorowsky has a certain degree of notoriety -- although I suppose it's waned in the last couple of decades.

YES! This has always been my argument. Otherwise the door is open to pronouncing JPEG as "GAY PEG" which is fine with me.

HAVING A SUMMAH, KINDA SORTA

I'm just going to leave these here.

I just bought that on blu-ray, it was forever one of my favorite bootlegged ebay dvds I'd put on to freak my friends out. I was so stoked that movie got picked up for Criterion. This also means it's available on Hulu, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ_Yo06kIIA Anyways, that is a KUH-RAZY awesome movie. I highly recommend it. PSST: Criterion blu-rays are $20 at Amazon right now. I also got Tokyo Drifter (which is not actually the prequel to Tokyo Drift!) and In The Mood For Love before I sobered up.

I hope you appreciate her contributions to the audio podcast as much as you value her sexiness.

Salo is just gross. I like a lot of Passolini, but Salo is just an endurance test. Holy Mountain is totally watchable.
-
Fuck it, take on Jodorowsky. Holy Mountain, do it. Hands down, most insane movie ever that is actually a movie and not some full on experimental non-narrative art thing. It's pretty infamous, I think most film buffs have seen it, attempted it, or at least know of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_k8oaeHsnc And if you haven't seen Everything Is Terrible's INFUCKINGCREDIBLE remake of Holy Mountain using only clips from family films about dogs(think Air Bud, Beethoven, etc), go buy it or whatever. It's mind-melting and one of the best films I saw in 2012.

I absolutely loved Raid: Redemption but aside from how fast it hits the ground running, it's just a bunch of great fight choreography. Not much to really discuss, methinks. Except maybe, who gets redeemed? It was really weird seeing the trailer for Dredd and getting serious deja vu. Both good movies but Raid was some of the best pure fighting us chop socky fans have seen in years (since the old guard is now the old guard (Jackie Chan is turning 60 next year!) and Tony Jaa is apparently not interesting in making great films anymore).

It's even worse for lady actors, just saying. But yeah, look at Bruce Willis for another example. Not that he's a great actor, but it seems like he'll do any project that his agent casually mentions over the phone. I think these people aren't really aware or even care much about making (!) anymore -- it's their job, it's what they've been doing for several decades. Why quit? While some people look forward to retiring from their respective fields, there's many who would rather keep punching in and out.
