TWO new PFT inspired shirts now in the Earwolf Store!
PhillipMedoc replied to Shannon's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
Okay, S is easy, Sharknado, which is an episode of HDTGM which Scott Aukernom appeared on. -
I hope the sponsors are paying extra for Hot Soccermom's ad copy reading, because it's next level. They've become bits all on their own. Now I know why you like Who Charted so much! Not that you need a reason.

Submit clips here!
PhillipMedoc replied to jakefogelnest's topic in Submit Clips for The Fogelnest Files
I just posted this in the episode 57 thread, but this is a clip from a crazy old Seattle Cable Access Network show in the early to mid 1990s. I used to watch this guy almost every Saturday night for a long time. He would just rant and rave for a half hour while his followers would silently stare at the camera; sometimes "The Reverend" would just stare for the entire duration. It was hard to tell if it was a put-on, a performance art thing, or an actual crazy dude -- there were many of them on public access. -
Episode 57 — Public Access Nonsense
PhillipMedoc replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Sweet jesus, I miss public access cable. Seattle had some great shows; I recorded a bunch to VHS as a teenager but who knows where that went. There was this guy called "Mike Hunt" who would just smoke weed and play porn; I remember him getting arrested live on air for obscenity; cops came into the studio and cuffed him. Made the local newscasts that night, but that was it. Let's see.... Bong Hit Championships, Ted Narcotic: My Erotic Narcotic, Richard Lee's crazy "Now See It: Person To Person" which was all about how Courtney Love had killed Kurt Cobain. There was someone who used to rebroadcast Jonathan Ross' "Incredibly Strange Film Show, which was actually my first exposure to Evil Dead back in the early 1990s. Not to mention all the great shows that played (at the time, pre-internet) obscure punk & experimental music. Oh! And this guy -- "The Reverend" Bruce Howard! I never bothered to find out what was up with him: Sometimes he would just stare all crazy-eyed into the camera for a half hour. This stuff was freely available on channel 29 to anyone with a basic cable connection. Amazing. -
The compression/expansion that's being done is a little disorienting at times, but I suppose it's necessary -- if you've been at one of the live shows, you know how loud the audience is. Like I can't listen to Doug Loves Movies sometimes, because there's no compression and some guests are super quiet and then everyone starts yelling all of a sudden. I would have loved that, but I was very happy with Ice-T since maah wife and friends aren't as familiar with the show.

Uwe Boll comes to mind. No way am I ever sitting through one of his films again.

Yeah, mostly agreed. The thing was that Glimmer Man was an attempt at a buddy cop flick, but Seagal's other films are usually him plus a sexy scientist/police officer/generic lady in distress. Less quippy and much more silly. And I totally agree that On Deadly Ground should be the one to cover -- it's got all the best Seagal elements. And don't forget, he directed that one, so you know it's gold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pKLt1-37U0

Mulaney's Comedy Central special is awesome; I love that bit. He's been on a couple of Comedy Bean Bag episodes, but other than a You Made It Weird, I haven't heard him on anything else. I imagine SNL keeps him pretty busy.

For real, who would see that trailer or this poster and say "Oh, we gotta go see that one!" "This movie could have been MARVELOUSLY FUNNY if not for the terrible script and performances." -WBAI Radio, New York.

"THIS WEEK'S EPISODE WILL BE DELAYED 24 HOURS"

Oh no, I agree with you -- it's an enjoyable bad movie. Almost any Tim Curry performance is worth watching. And I thought Ernie Hudson was supposed to be from South Africa or something? I forget. And I think you're spot on with the Laura Dern thing.

Created by Jim Henson, puppets by his Creature Workshop. That show ran for four seasons and was actually kinda popular, especially that dumb baby and his catch phrase. It was eventually cancelled, but they had a proper ending episode which is pretty dark -- the ice age begins, and all the dinosaurs stand outside and await their impending extinction (seriously).

It's weird how much E-Hudz ended up looking like a Ghostbuster by the third act. And they made a line of action figures, because every kid wants to reenact this story with the power of their imagination.

Wow, Phantom Of The Paradise at 1:30, that's a deep cut. Don't think too many people know about that one these days.

This is a wonderful movie. Highly recommended if you're looking for a fun 1980s slasher, with the added bonus of Killbots (the movie's alternate title). This is a Jim Wynorski film, so that should give you an idea of what you're in for. Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Dawn Of The Dead, but that's not a slasher. There's Aerobicide/Killer workout, which feels very eighties, but not in a mall.

We got Pluto Nash and I think that's plenty. As we've heard from Paul, the prospect of doing pure comedies is pretty remote at this point as they're just bad/bad; there's not much to discuss except that the jokes fail. It doesn't make for a great HDTGM.

Yeah, basically what Sean said. I can recall people bitching about SNL back in the early 1990s, saying it hasn't been good since Eddie Murphy and Chevy Chase left. People were saying Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey weren't funny, etc. People will always say it was better back when they were actually watching it. I haven't seen a full episode of it for several years. My problem with the show is the scripted nature of it; when a sketch isn't funny, they can't just switch gears and do something else -- there's not a lot of improv, which leads to terribly unfunny, overly long skits that are trying to hammer one joke into the ground because they have six minutes to kill until the break. Honestly they should clip the show down to 60 minutes and leave out some filler.

Speaking of horrible body shaming, way to go, Portland: http://www.stereogum.com/1507742/fiona-apple-blake-mills-newmark-theatre-portland-1032013/concert/ Some asshole basically humiliated Fiona Apple on the first night of her tour, had to get escorted out and was still yelling.

Hoo boy, watched this last night and it is crazy terrible. The two leads never really did anything big after Congo. Thank god for Tim Curry chewing the scenery with the most ridiculous hammy Romanian(?) accent you've ever heard; his character's name is Herkermer Homolka, for cryin' out loud. Dylan Walsh was demoted to TV after this movie. The three different motivations for going to the Congo (Amy going to the jungle, fancy diamonds for a super laser, and whatever Tim Curry was up to) never quite turn into a plot. The whole thing just gets messy once they get to the jungle -- which takes forever, by the way. This is a movie in which people shoot down rocket-propelled grenades with FLARE GUNS. In a helicopter.

Yeah, it's super duper crazy bad. Like, junior high kids with a video camera level bad. It's impossible to describe how terrible it is; it is easily a contender for worst movie of all time. I know that's a big label to throw around, but you really need to see it to understand. Some internet dude named Spoony (I think maybe he's from Something Awful, I dunno) did a good/funny commentary track that makes the movie bearable. Otherwise it's just a slog and then some.

Well it's not like most of them ever went to a trade school or college or have any training in any vocation whatsoever and are missing a ton of brain cells from drug use and getting beat up repeatedly. So yeah, I guess that qualifies them to tell Christians what to do.

Yeah, it was driving the missus crazy because she was like "what the hell are you even talking about"; she only sees the VPNs so she wasn't getting the in-jokes. Yesterday wasn't as lively as the last chat, but it was a fun episode. WE GOT SOME GIFS! Thanks, seantrekotron. Anyone have one of Kulap's long camera stare?

You hear way more about the musical guests now than anything else that happens. It's just youtube clips of whoever was on last week. Nice to hear some old-school (I guess at this point?) hip-hop on the show.

On one of my old phones I have a pic of my twin smoking blunts with Bushwick Bill (he's a gambler and apparently so is Bushwick; they hung out at a casino). My brother is kind of a loony toon and apparently Bushwich said he was crazy, and my brother was like "dude, you shot yourself in the fucking head". I'll see if I can dig it up.

Holy shit, the a cappella You'll Never Walk Alone in Portland is incredible, upon relistening. Is it me, or is the Would You Rather theme longer for the live shows than in the regular podcast?
