Thank you for bringing up Rep. Trey Radel on this episode. This dude makes me mad - the Jay-Z tweet review was obviously a corny-old-guy move, but he's since changed his twitter bio calling himself a "Hip-Hop Conservative" and even wrote a piece about how he thinks Chuck D's message jibes with that of the GOP: http://www.buzzfeed.com/treyradel/trey-radel-hip-hop-conservative-ah8y It would be like if GW Bush said "I love the Dead Kennedys" and was constantly tweeting at Jello Biafra.
It's clear this guy has an agenda - being conservative and liking rap is fine, but he's said he thinks rap can be used to "sell a conservative message to kids in South Central or the south side of Chicago:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3Hocr_6aRM&feature=share&list=UUNmoYVzmRAo2wT0FFF44Nfg
I might be totally wrong, but it seems like this dude is co-opting someone else's culture to sell a bill of goods, which to me is corny and evil. Now he's got a video where he's gonna be at SXSW doing this stuff: http://t.co/hVmpFEmxnY
As you said on the show, he was tweeting at Jay on every tweet during the MCHG review. He's also tweeted at Chuck D a bunch of times, for no good apparent reason. Like someone at his office said "Hov and Chuck are bound to be thrilled that a Republican congressman from Florida is tweeting at them!" I say, until someone like Chuck cosigns what this dude is doing, he's in the wrong. I think the best thing would be for someone actually in the game LIKE Chuck to call him out and shut him down. I guess that can't happen until more people notice this bullshit going on. (as mad as he makes me, it's also reeeeally funny).
I wanted to call and fire this shot, but I also wanted to include those links so everyone can watch and judge for themselves. Shot Fired.
