I have another game ... i've been catching up on some DLM and he has been playing one of my favourite games, Build A Title, and it got me thinking ... is it possible to build a title using only HDTGM movies? It's only 148 movies so it's a small list compared to the number of movies doug gets to choose from but there must be some connections.... i found 3: LawnmowerMANnequin 2: On the move (You could put Glimmerman or Wicker man in there too) & MortalKomBATman & RobIN the name of the King & SharknaDOuble Team .. does that work? Can ye find anymore? What if we build titles with any movie with a Rotten Tomato score of less than 20% ...

to be fair to Snake .. most of the people who help him end up getting killed ... maybe he was just waiting till it was all over to thank them but just never got the chance because, you know, he got them all shot or blown up ....

i just remembered this post and that i'd explain it .. i called it a LANGER of a movie because of A.J. Langer's (or should i say the countess of devon's?) surname. I never really knew her name but she was listed second in the credits and when i saw that it was Langer i gave out a little giggle .. you know the type of stupid giggle when you see something and you're really tired and you know it's really juvenile but you just cant help yourself ... i'll get to the point the area i'm from is known for it's slang and one of the more famous words is Langer (pronounced Lang - er .. as in Bang - er). it has 3 meanings .. 1. Langers - drunk e.g. "Yer man was falling around langers last night" meaning he was so drunk he was finding it hard to even stand 2. Langer - Annoying/foolish person or anyone you don't like e.g if someone says/does something that annoys you "You're some langer bouy!" ... so that's why this movie was some langer 3. Langer - Penis e.g. the ball hit me square in me langer .. got hit by a ball in the groin area well i did say this was juvenile ... but it got me laughing afterwards because it reminded me of a joke we used to tell as kids. the golfer Bernard Langer was at the top of his game when i was a kid and when the British/American commentators said his name they pronounced it "Long - er" ... that's probably the correct pronunciation but not here .. to us he was Bernard Lang-er so the joke went and i'm sorry about this: "What happened Bernard Langer when he played in America?" "His Lang-er became Long-er" now i know that's not funny but when we were kids and with our cork accents and pronunciation ... we were on the floor laughing i hate this song but it is the only video i could find with a pronunciation close to a real cork accent. even though it's more of a piss take i'll just use it for illustrative purposes ... i tried to share it at the word Langer so you don't need to listen to the rest of it's awfulness . around the 28 second mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m9SsNxbZxM&feature=youtu.be&t=28s

i only saw the original this week so i had no real attachment to it but i know it is a much loved movie so i am just wondering what fans of the original thought of this after such a long gap between releases. closest i can think of, disappointment wise, for me would be The Matrix sequels or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (lets not mention a certain menace). all the waiting, all the build up and then they suck. but at least those movies had abit of effort behind them, escape from LA looked half-arsed at best. i know the budgets are planets apart but this movie came out a month after Independence Day ... and looking at the-numbers.com it came out a week after Chain Reaction, the same week as Jack, 2 weeks before The Island of Dr. Moreau, 3 weeks before The Crow: City of Angels and First Kid and about a month before Bulletproof and Last Man Standing ... bad time for movie goers ... great time for HDTGM contenders ...

there was alot of discussion about the basketball scene but nobody mentioned the fact that kurt russel was playing basketball with an eye patch on ... i don't know much about basketball (or eye patches) but from what i remember from the two times i have played it, with my two eyes and pretty good depth perception, it is alot harder than it looks. so if kurt actually made those shots, especially that final shot, with the eye patch on (not sure the patch was on for that shot though) ... i tip my hat to him. it might also explain why they left in the dribbling cause id imagine even running while bouncing a ball with one eye is tricky.

ok, it's a terrible movie but i kinda enjoyed the awfulness. i'm not sure i would have if i didn't have a HDTGM episode to look forward to at the end of it though. i just kept thinking "they are going to tear this movie apart and i can't wait for it" .. and i loved the ep. but i have alot of questions so i'm just going to dump them all in the one post: - escape from NY was set in 1997 and escape from LA was set in 2013 ... 16 years ... 16 years and snake is still wearing the same clothes? what are those clothes made of? i have a pair of jeans that are 2 years old and if i sit down in them once more i'm going to get arrested for indecent exposure, so how are his clothes still in one piece? and they must stink - stacy keach puts blanks in snakes gun cause he knew he was going to try and kill him .. ok ... but what if he didn't .. what if snake just went into LA with the blanks, got attacked and then tried to shoot his way out of it ... this would have been a much shorter movie - why does everything move so slow in this movie .. cars, bikes, horses, helicopters, tsunami ... i like the idea that they shot everything slow thinking they would speed it up in post and then at the premiere realised "oh that's what we forgot to do" - i know nothing about guns so i am open to correction .. but if you're in a glider, floating on the wind, and you shoot an automatic weapon ... is there not a recoil from those things? ... surely as soon as you start shooting you're at least going to struggle to go in a straight line but these guys are as graceful as a butterflies, dancing from flower to flower. ok, all of those are petty when you take the movie as a whole but here is a big thing for me. i mean i have more but i should just wrap this up ... so snake had to go into LA, get the device back from and then kill ceurvo, then get back to the medics withing the time frame so he can get the antidote or he'd die, which is fine. but after the basketball scene, when everyone runs out of the stadium, snake causes an explosion, then attacks cuervo, knocking him out cold, takes the black box, gets a massive gun and shoots at everyone except ceurvo, and then he heads off to the sewers (see edited gif) ... on the version i watched this happens at around the 63 min mark .. why didn't he just shoot ceurvo when he had the chance? it would have saved us 40 mins but more importantly (and this is from cam bert's amazing timeline post) it would have saved snake over 3 hours ... and considering he thought he was going to die if the clock ran out that was a pretty major error from snake ... one he remakes later before he takes off in the helicopter ... the exact same thing ... btw, why didn't he take one of the motor bikes that were just sitting there ... snake's alot less cooler when you start looking at these movies a little closer ..

i just finished it .. wow .. i have so many questions .. its 0030hrs here now so the episode will have to wait till tomorrow ... hopefully most of them get addressed cause it was a mess. or as we say around here ... its a LANGER of a movie ... that's a really juvenile joke that i might explain tomorrow and ill probably apologise for it then too but right now i'm giggling cause i'm really tired

i genuinely only remember hearing about it once. but i do kinda zone out during the ad breaks. none of them are really relevant to me over here. the only thing that got me was how it was done. (and that was addressed in the other thread paul linked to). i remember the announcement last year but haven't heard anything since. i think if paul, june and jason were surprised by it then it is fair for people who may not have heard that mini (maybe it was an actual episode, cant remember) to be surprised and bad surprises get peoples backs up ... but what content providers do with their content is literally their own business so i'm fine with the pay wall. thinking about it, 6 months of content is actually generous but if you're only just discovering HDTGM or CBB etc then i can see why people would be a upset. and i think the initial shock/anger is dying down now too. twitter has relaxed reddit have probably found something else to take their frustrations out on ... i love the fact that one of the founders of reddit is marrying serena williams ... how much of punch in the balls must that be to the lower life forms on there .. i just pity poor paul ... hope he didnt have to get up from his sick floor bed to deal with all this. i love june even more for posting this ... and like you i still need to watch Escape from LA. i tried last night but thanks to the mini i ended up listening to feel good music till well after midnight. and i went off on another tangent today. john carpenter music ... am i going to be disappointed if i hope there is something like the assault on precinct 13 theme is escape from LA? .. probably right? i love this ... has a real sinister feel .. you know trouble is coming ... the man done good work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGME6jCwqw0

i like the big stupid action movies but thats a personal thing. i do have a sort of answer for the question posed in the thread title. i try to keep track of some of the stats for the show and one of the stats is the running total of imdb genres listed for each film on that site. it movie gets tagged with 2 or 3 genres. so heres the table so far (up to Escape from LA): so, taking the top 3, the most common (not really the best i suppose) is action/comedy/drama i did a search on IMDB using these 3 genres .. i got 878 results .. but some of them are worth consideration for HDTGM http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=100&genres=action,comedy,drama&num_votes=1,&title_type=feature&sort=moviemeter,asc&ref_=gnr_mn_ac_1

and last but definitely not least .. i remember, about half way through my final set of exams in college, i was really really dreading this one exam. i was walking through the campus, dragging my heels. had a bad feeling about it you know? anyway, i had my headphones on as was a customary as i walked to an exam and the music was on shuffle. all the usual tracks of the day were playing and then suddenly this came on. i had completely forgotten it was even on there. i just got a massive smile on my face and, no messing, i walked in the door of the exam hall just as the song reached it's peak ... i was laughing by the time i sat down and i was pumped by the time they handed out the paper ... i still havent watched escape from LA ... been listening to music all night ... nice way to spend a rainy January 5th
