not sure if you've heard of deepfakes ..it's really not cool ... but someone is actually putting it to good use. by splicing nic cage into some iconic movies ... here's a sample .. i'm not googling deepfakes though but i would love if someone out there put it to proper use and insert him into every HDTGM movie. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/advanced-new-technology-now-being-used-to-splice-nic-cage-into-every-movie-ever reminded me of my efforts from a few years back -

Caveman (1981)
firsttimecallerlongtimelistenr replied to reckless_speculator's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
if you look at the years of all the movies covered by hdtgm, the only year from 1980 to 2017 without a representative is 1981. i've mentioned this a lot before and this movie always gets a shout out when i ask for suggestions. it's on youtube alright. i've deliberately avoided it in case the gang decide to review it. -

precisely. the louis ck fan club didn't sign up because he was offended that a guest hadn't watched a movie. i think his motives were pretty clear. btw, i think it's ok to criticise a guest for not watching a movie. it is part of the job afterall. if you paid to go see them and you're disappointed by it then it's ok to say so. but when i go to a comedy show the most important thing is that i laugh. did tig make people laugh? if yes, then she did her job. if no then the people there have a legit gripe. as long as someone sees the movie and it can get discussed in a comedic way then i have no real problem. in fact, the anarchic numbskull in my head is pissing himself.... at least this one time i've been reading christopher lee's wikipedia and for my shame, i didn't know any of the stuff in it. his autobiography must be fascinating. i had hoped to find an audiobook version read by him somewhere but can't but i do see a reading of the exorcist by him.... that's october sorted!!! -

Forgive me if this was mentioned already but I haven't seen the film and so I didn't listen to the episode ... last Halloween I watched a 26 episode review of horror movies hosted by Christopher Lee called "100 years of horror". Each episode dealt with a different horror topic .. vampires, mummies, famous actors etc. The way Lee spoke so fondly of the old movies was the highlight of the series and he had some great stories from some of the movie sets he worked on but it was his introduction to the Werewolf episode that stood out ... Paul will have to do his best Christopher Lee impression for this … "Religion, psychology, medicine and metaphysics all recognise the dichotomy between our higher selves and our lower instincts. Correspondingly, a concept that a human could transform into a beast is common throughout the world. In truth, wolves are intelligent creatures who mate for life. If a female is killed, often the male partner will simply lie down to die in despair. And, except in times of starvation, wolf packs sensibly avoid contact with human beings. Stories of helpless human children raised by wolves occur sporadically throughout history. The legendary founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus, were suckled at the tit of a wolf bitch. Mogle, the young hero of Kipling's "Jungle Book", was likewise adopted by a wolf pack. Myth and fiction, yes, but based on fact! But zoological fact would scarcely make for a frightening fantasy film thus movie “Werewolves” follow the conception of the wolf of myth and fairytale. A cunning, savage, wild animal ... The beast within ... My own brush with film lycanthrope was limited to appearing in a film called “The Howling 2”... The less said about that, the better...." he never mentioned it again -

2 or 3 a week. you're living the dream. if i get to see one a month i'm delighted. for various reasons the movie going experience is becoming a rarity for me so i think that's why i got so worked up about TLJ. i know i wont get to see another movie in a theater for weeks so it bummed me out even more that i didn't enjoy it. as for trailers. i too skip them on DVR or switch channels but you can't do that in the theater so i have started to just put my head down and stare at my hands or feet whenever a trailer for a movie i think i might go to see comes on...i just zone out. it actually works too. i didn't SEE a single trailer for thor: ragnarok (i heard it a few times though) and i found i loved that everything, visually anyway, was new to me. same goes for all the upcoming marvel movies. there were trailers for black panther and the new avengers movie on before TLJ and all i saw was my hands. they sound great though ... i did watch the trailer for the new nutcracker movie. not my cup of tea but i was sitting there on the 3rd of january watching a trailer for a movie i know is a christmas movie so at best it wont be out here till november ... that annoyed me. it's too early for that. way too early. but speaking of all the marvel movies. i've said before i've never read any of the comics so all my avengers exposure is from the movies but i've been getting more and more bored by the "universal" storyline (if that makes sense). as a whole they just seem to be stuck. nothings happening. they are just adding more and more characters and then they all get into a big fight or there's infighting and in the end everything is more or less sorted out. i've felt for a while now that i just want it to end. i want that one big movie where i know it's the last one and anyone can be killed off and i know the enemy is the "boss" and once it's over it's over. each movie that comes out now just feels like a hurdle to getting to that one last movie. i know those in the know could probably tell me everything wrong with that statement but that's just how this uneducated viewer feels. in saying that i loved the 2 GOT movies and ragnarok was a blast. i hate the first 2 thor movies but ragnarok was alot of fun. would it they have made it as much fun if GOT hadn't have been so successful i don't know but i'm glad it was. plus i love the hulk so .... i actually got a kindle fire before christmas in the sales and got a month of kindle unlimited with it and i used it to read some hulk comics for the first time. i really enjoyed the "gray" series .. christmas took over so i didn't get time to read much more but as soon as things settle down i might try to read more. -

imagine if twitter was around when the grandad wookiee was jerking off to Diahann Carroll ... it would have exploded the internet into tiny pieces .. but i was reminded alot of the phantom menace as i watched this one. now i only saw the PM once, the day it came out, and i was gutted by it. i hated it for all the same reasons everyone else did. it was just a badly made movie full of gimmicks and characters based on merchandising sales rather than story development. every time i saw a new little alien pop up i was like "oh ... here we go again" .. i feel like i should qualify some of these comments though... when i go see a star wars movie and get asked was it any good i always start my reply with "there are 2 sides to star wars .. the one with the amazing story and action scenes, which i really like, and the other which can be summed by the cantina scene" ... i hate the cantina scene. all these really badly designed aliens doing nothing but making noises and getting in the way. it's the cheese i hate. and this movie is full of it. it's like product placement. if done right it doesn't get in the way and we all get what we want. if done wrong ... i'm looking at you Jurassic world .. it is intrusive and you feel kinda dirty after it. that's what i felt like watching this movie. they can't have product placement in these movies so they create these cute little aliens solely for merchandising purposes. they distract me so much i'm taken out of the movie and into a toy shop ... there were too many of those moments in TLJ. and add onto that that i thought the editing was done by a studio exec and that caused a john williams score to sound like a collection of snippets from the previous movie's scores. there was no fluency in the story telling. it was a mess. and the 3 things i will never get over were: look, i didn't like it yesterday as i watched it and having time to think about it i like it even less now. i was really pumped for it after seeing all the positive reviews and seeing paul's love for it on twitter and instagram but man was it a let down. i can't get past all of the above ... it's poorly made, gimmicky, bad acting, bitty score, nonsensical slowness .. and the lack of heart and laziness ...i better stop.... i'm either boring ye or insulting ye. it kinda feels like i'm try to persuade people not to like it and that's not fair. if you like it great. i'm not massively knowledgeable in the world of star wars or movie making/criticism, i'm just telling you how i feel. i told someone the other day that i thought mother was one of my favorite movies of last year and i nearly got my head bitten off. we all have different experiences when we go into a cinema and that's why i love movies. anyway though ... enough of my ramblings ... roll on episode 9!!!! (or whatever spin off is next up) -

i thought you might. that's cool. clearly you have more invested with the star wars universe than i and i would never even try to make you change your mind. you loved it. that's great. i think it's a fans movie and that is one good thing about it. the fact that they would make such a big movie for fans is impressive. it just left me cold. or, judging by a re-read of my post, hot ... as in under the collar ... i definitely wont be re-watching it anytime soon -

i just had a look at the list there. i think you're right. it was that "rough patch" that put me off abit. i mean i enjoyed most of the movies this year but some of them felt like a bit of a chore to source/watch. but that's only because i prefer to watch the movies before listening to the eps so i need to take some of the blame too. looking at the list again, it really highlights one the best things about this podcast.... i hadn't heard of nearly half of them before. this podcast has really broadened my knowledge of terrible but fun movies. a perfect example of this is "the room", i had never heard of it before listening to the ep. and now it's everywhere. spot on. just maybe say it when they post the "homework" on twitter or wherever. just a little heads up kinda thing. maybe they didn't know before. as you say, it might have been out of their hands. i'll finish on this. i think my disappointment last night highlights i still care about this podcast. which is a good sign. i think i'll just leave them get ahead of me abit and that way i'll have more than just a few days to find the movies. this will mean i won't be in here as much though ... which might please the interns as they won't have to try and make sense of my nonsense and bad grammar. there are a few podcasts i've stopped listening to over the last while. the big one was DLM. i haven't listened to that in nearly a year. a lot of that was due to the run time of the eps. doug puts out so much stuff it just got difficult to keep up and eventually i just stopped. i wasn't enjoying the games as much either. i was doing a "bert kreischer" and stopping after the intros. he was getting abit too cranky for me too. that anne heche/onur tuckel ep was awful. sandra oh was the only one to come out of that with any dignity. anyway, that's enough from me. i gotta finish my christmas shopping so i'll go. but whatever about the movie choices this year the forums have always been a fun place to visit. i've laughed as much at the content in here as i have listening to the podcast so thanks to everyone who contributed. -

i know c .. i was kidding. i really need to improve my sarcasm. as i was saying earlier in the thread i'm taking abit of a break from HDTGM anyway. just a few things bugging me about it at the moment. mainly the movies being covered. they're getting a little hard to track down on this side of the pond (legally anyway). i think the last ep i listened to was virtuosity. there were 5 or 6 movies before that that were only available on youtube (or some other less than reputable sites) and looking at some of the movies coming up i'd probably have to resort to those means again. i've asked repeatedly for more easily available movies to be covered and maybe some consideration for listeners outside of the netflix USA/HULU region but i don't even get a reply. but i'm not an idiot. i don't expect or think i deserve any special treatment or anything. i know most of the listeners for the show are in the US, and it is a show from the US after all, so i'm not expecting every movie to be available for streaming globally but some consideration for us foreigners would be nice. i guess that's why i was looking forward to the Valerian ep. that's out here on DVD and i was planning on renting it. i guess this saves me 4 quid ... silver lining to everything. that disappointment explains my previous posts. and paul said on twitter that when he announced the paywall he also said there would be exclusive bonus material on there so i guess he's a man of his word. you can't fault him for that. this is the only show i listen to regularly on stitcher so i can't really justify paying the sub cost when all the normal eps are released for free. anyway ... it nearly 2 am here and i should have been asleep ages ago. i started watching die hard 2 and time got away from me. ... let it snow let it snow let it snow ... -

yeah, i know all that. it's just abit disappointing. hopefully it will get a proper release in the future. until then i can't add it to the HDTGM runtime. It's currently at 24.4 days if anyone is interested. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fNUxhVbJf9FOIHnE1yorJj383JS51T0cjF6XsaE8tA4/edit?usp=sharing -

it was recorded at the "pee cast blast" .. whatever that is .. and is in that section on stitcher so it may not even show on the HDTGM feed. it could just be a deal they had with the festival. hopefully this means it's just a once off or at least for only when they play that festival. maybe paul could clear all this up with another "special announcement" ep. -

so many questions: what the f***? was this announced in a recent ep? will it ever be available for non-subscribers? will i ever watch valerian if it's not? & is it canon if it's not? also, where did i put that box of mince pies? edit: i'm actually very annoyed by this. i have alot of negative thoughts i could blurt out now but i won't. it's not been the best couple of months and this is just another tiny stinging splinter from the big wooden paddle that is life .. so i'll sleep on it. i probably won't care tomorrow but right now i'm a little pissed off. i assume it will pop up somewhere else anyway. -
Episode 177.5 - Minisode 177.5
firsttimecallerlongtimelistenr replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
this is the second year in a row without a festive edition and i think all the old christmas eps are behind the wall ... so, does this mean HDTGM hates christmas??? is paul really the scheer-inch? or is everyone just too busy to get to record an episode at this, the busiest time of year ... either way fox news are gonna be pissed!!! ... silver tinseled lining i suppose i haven't been here for a few episodes, i'm taking a break from HDTGM for a while, but as i'm here now i hope those of you who celebrate a holiday have a great one and those who don't have a nice week whatever you get up to. so be good, be safe and see ya all next year .. or maybe between the 25th and new years ... depending on how quickly i get bored
