there was a show on channel 5 (UK) last weekend, the ultimate top 40 action movies or something, and they had an interview with Simon West. He said his first meeting with Jerry Bruckheimer consisted of Bruckheimer giving him 3 scripts and telling him to pick one to make. So he picked Con Air. Good choice .. Then he went on to discuss the making of the film. Going back to Paul's point about the script changing every day, West said he kept getting told by Bruckheimer that they needed extra action .. more explosions ... because as they were making this movie, other movies like The Rock, Mission: Impossible, Independence Day, etc were released, so Bruckheimer wanted to make Con Air bigger than any of them. Then he finished by saying the scene where the plane crashed into the Sands was all due to lucky timing. The Sands was actually due to be demolished at the same time they were filming this and when the production team heard this they got the owners of the Sands to postpone the demolition for a month or something so they could film the plane crash scene. They set up all the cameras and just rammed the front of a plane into the building. All one shot .. i think he said that it was a 5 million dollar action scene (or some such stupid amount of money)

they recorded face/off and con air on the same night.

i enjoyed monsters. when you look at the budget you can see how the director got the godzilla job (now that was a boring film). monsters was abit slow moving but i guess that was a reflection of the budget. there is a sequel coming out soon .. looks like they spent abit more on it

and why did the croc keep spitting out the human parts he chomped off? what ... human meat not good enough for him??? ive never heard of a picky croc before but apparently this one only likes prime beef

maybe the croc got so big because betty white was feeding it cows full of growth hormones. i mean she was probably an organic farmer at first but as the croc kept coming back for more and more feedings she couldnt keep up so she turned to chemicals to grow her cows faster .. i mean im not a cow scientist or anything ...im sure Werner Hertzog could have explained it better

another hdtgm coincidence ... its Brendan gleesons birthday today, happy 60th Brendan if you havent seen the guard you should give it a watch, very funny himself, Domhnall and Brian were in a play up in Dublin back in January, meant to go see it but life got in the way. It was supposed to be brilliant. Theyre really establishing themselves as a great acting dynasty .. like the Sheen/Esteves clan

just finished it. i actually had fun watching most of it and, as a side note, wow is bridget fonda beautiful. i did feel it kinda fell flat once it got into the last 15 mins but there were parts i really enjoyed, especially when the great brendan gleeson and oliver platt went head to head. anyways, i was just wondering if anyone watched any of the 3 sequels?

i was going to mention that but i just couldnt get my head around it. i honestly thought i was in a crazy deep blue haze or something when that shark sniffed. i even replayed it a few times to see and im still pretty sure that when saffron jumps into the water the shark stops breaking through the fence, pauses and then sniffs ... its like something from a cartoon when the old lady leaves a pie on the window sill and yogi bear or someone walks past ...

BTW, Samuel L Jackson finishing his commentary when his character gets killed off is one of the coolest things ive ever heard of. i just have an image of him commenting on the scene, then, without saying a word, taking off the headphones, walking out of the booth and straight out of the building, leaving the guys in the control room both bemused and in total awe

if standing on the wetsuit was supposed to stop her from getting electrocuted then the saffron burrows stripping scene would have made more sense if she wasnt already wearing rubber shoes and standing on what looks like a wooden table top that was at least a 2 or 3 inches out of the water ...

were these sharks born with engineering degrees? i mean even if they had brains the size of bowling balls they would still have to learn stuff first before being able to create the plan they came up with in this. they seem to have knowledge in structural engineering, fluid mechanics etc that humans have to spend years learning ...
