  1. I relate to Nick Thune because I'm the Bo Jackson of posting on forums because I do a lot of good jokes and also I'm attractive in real life. That's why my friends call me "double trouble"

Don't forget the tunes you've been making. For whatever reasons, that popcorn gallery riff has been stuck in my head since I heard it.

There is no "triple trouble," so you are a "damage a trois" now.

  2. Is there an actual popcorn gallery board or something somewhere for the submission of questions for guests?

From what I could find on the forums, there was just a few questions sprinkled into individual show comments sections.

I'm not supposed to reveal any of the the popcorn gallery secrets (get it... "Pop Secret" is the name of a popcorn company and I am talking about revealing the secrets of the popcorn gallery. I think that those are called puns, but that may have been too witty for mere labels), but here are the 2 best options for having your questions asked:

    1. (Insert name here), how do you get into "the Funny Zone"

    2. Be Chanson

  3. Well, for what I said about stereotypes being used for humor are all of the jokes about Polish people, Jewish people, Mexican people, the "white people do this, black people do this" jokes. Those are all based on stereotypes and people think that all jokes are based on some truth, so they are like, "Black people really do seem to like chicken a lot" while they are laughing at a joke.

A lot of the less noble comedians have made careers off of these "observations" such as Carlos Mencia and recently Daniel Tosh. Some people did this type of comedy well, like Dave Chappelle, who would try to deconstruct a stereotype in a joke. But there are a lot of crude people who try to entertain their friends with horrible jokes that are pretty mean. When I think of stereotypes, I think of people trying to use a joke that is a repackaged stereotype.

I personally feel like anything that is outside of the context of "jokes and observations" are not stereotypes as much as they are racist comments. In the example in the podcast of the kid being called a monkey, that wasn't a stereotype, but something that was used as a slur, which should not be forgotten about. Slurs are something that people should know the history of, so I agree with you on that.

  4. I agree with what you are saying, except the part about stereotypes being an important part of history. Oppression, prejudice, discrimination, and racism are something that people need to learn about to prevent injustices from happening again, but stereotypes were kind of just a form of bad observational humor. They are founded in generalization, and are most frequently used as malicious jokes. I feel that bringing them up and pointing all of them out only allows certain people to laugh and think, "hey, that is kind of true," which will never be helpful in eliminating them in the end.

  5. It's not racist at all to teach people about racist words or stereotypes, nor should we try to "forget" these words and stereotypes exist. We can try to move past the history of these things, but we should never forget. People can only be free when they know the truth, and that goes for everyone of every race.

Also, got a great laugh out of the "well, technically," bit.

And what function would it serve to never forget these words and stereotypes? To keep people upset with one another for no real reason?

  6. I forgot about Brandon Johnson on last year; and I agree that Baron Vaughn would be so funny! It would be almost too much if Don Cheadle was on too; it would need to be a 2 hour show because I would really love to hear all the scenes that they would come up with.

Actually, this would make a great video podcast as well. I would love to see any of the people mentioned team up together.

  7. We've heard a few episodes where Matt surrounds himself with hilarious women, but could there ever be an episode dedicated to Improv4BlackGuys? I don't know who you could even get beyond Tim Meadows and Colton Dunn (and I don't even know if those guys could work together).

Matt would kind of spoil the Improv4BlackGuys title, but there should be a "diversity in the workplace day" on the show. Lamorne Morris was just on Hollywood Handbook 2 weeks ago and he was really funny. He was never on a podcast before that, but he was a good improvisor. Donald Glover was also on HH too, and was obviously funny.

This is a really cool idea, and I think that it would lead to a lot of original scenes!

  8.

Si.

PS- I learned Spanish from the 3 episodes of Dora that I watched last week...speaking of Spanish, Carlos Mencía should be a guest some time. I totally get his comedic genius now :D

  9. looks like all we need is the hangouts app and our gmail accounts and then we can all video chat together on any device. Or just have a dedicated chat room? I don't know, I have both so I'm good to go whenever you crazy handbook heads want to drink together via the internets.

Does this mean we're an improv team now?

So maybe you should be Head Organizer. What app are you talking about, or make that dedicated chat room and tell me how to find it. I'm in for drinking hot tea together via internet :)
