Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1
Peter Destructo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
If I'd known that "mad as hell" June would be a category, I would've nominated the bit near the end of Runaway where June declares that somebody in the film "didn't do SHIT!" -
PISTOL SHRIMPS RADIO 12/13/16: THE YEAR IN REVIEW
Peter Destructo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Pistol Shrimps Radio
"Derrick you're off the Upchristmas Christopher..." I love it to death every time Matt goes on an opposite run. It's just the sort of goofy crap that my brother and I get up to, only professionally done. -
Episode 149.5 - Minisode 149.5

I'm not a musical fan either, but the singing in the trailer struck me as pretty awful (and the music was very '80s). I hope that's not just my untrained ear or Paul playing the trailer off Youtube. -

Well, I'm not really a film buff, so if we're having a cry-off then, well, two incongruously silly words: "Jurassic Bark". -

But to bring it full circle, it was Maximum Overdrive where a crew member was seriously injured by a malfunctioning lawn mower. And y'all don't know me, but I live eight hours from Austin, so I'm going too! -
Episode 148 - Vampire's Kiss: LIVE!

My viewing notes pretty much began and ended with "Crazy Nic Cage." With the marginal scribbles "hostile work environment" and "Crazy Hat Hair/Hair Hat Lady" -

While photophobia (aversion to light) is a potential rabies symptom, hydrophobia (aversion to water, and drinking) is much more common and diagnostic of rabies. If the film really wanted to make rabies the culprit, we could have been treated to the site of an over acting, unstable, and uncontrollably DROOLING Nic Cage. This might have made his closing blood-beard therapist dialogue that much more entertaining. -

In addition, there is how blasé everyone at the office is about her mistreatment, and how dismissive Alva's mother is about it. All I could think of as it went on was, "Welp...'80s." -

Count me in with bonjour, Cameron H, and fanny pack. This was the first time I had actually watched a movie prior to its HDTGM episode, since I was traveling to Anaheim to see the show in person (which was a joy, of course). I had to tap out after about an hour and pick it up later, partly because I was busy that week and partly because I was like "Dammit Paul, you were supposed to give me a fun movie, not Nick Cage harassing a secretary for two hours!" -
Was great fun to unexpectedly hear Howard fanboy out about them.

Oh, you're gonna enjoy this episode. (Saw it in person in Anaheim) -
Episode 82 - Madison Square Garden: Live from The Detroit Improv Festival (w/ Zach Gowen, Nyima Funk, Marc Evan Jackson, Marc Warzecha)
Peter Destructo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
"What is Love" is very much a Deee-Lite song which predates the Haddaway number that SNL made infamous. Very nice semi-slow groove, too. -
Episode 77 - Concession Stand

I'm a bit ashamed to admit how hard I was laughing at Paul's Blue Apron menu song. -

This episode was one of the best even before the improv started. -
I hope Brett got a clean record of one of those "You Blew It"s so they can start dropping it in whenever they want to bust on someone.

2nd ANNUAL HOWDIES - COMING SOON & WE NEED HELP
Peter Destructo replied to paulscheer's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Oh, I just remembered another favorite moment if anyone is still reading this thread. In the Con-Air episode, Paul is expounding on how ridiculous the climatic plane landing on the Las Vegas Strip was because McCarran Airport was literally 1.1 miles away. Jason, famously doing the episode under duress, replied "Paul? I don't think you're using the word "literally" correctly." -

Best Pitch: The aforementioned one about the Danny DeVito baby in Junior. Additionally, I want this to be Jay Marks' next HDTGM animation. Best One-Liner: June, "I think I'm *married* to one of those guys!" Best Second Opinion: Just want to mention here how disappointed I am that "Color Of Night" isn't in the running for that one review that was so bonkers that they had to look up the rest of the reviewers' oeuvre on Amazon in the following mini-episode. It seems to have come out too late to make consideration for the first Howdys and too early for the next one. -

The helicopter kissing is where I lost it. -

I spent about a week in Mumbai a few years ago, and I also saw the "HONK OK" signs, mostly on trucks. Traffic is, as they said, very chaotic, with many different types of vehicles on the road, from trucks on down to cars and bicycles and these odd little three-wheeled motorized rickshaws. All weaving and jockeying for space. And though the city would like to cut down on the noise (and has billboards to that effect), it is a matter of survival, particularly for the smaller vehicles, to honk their horns just to signal their presence. Hence the signs on the trucks, many of which lack mirrors. -
Okay, this ep deserves a comment or two. Loved it. Perfect music fakeout to start the show.

Episode 40 - Inside a 40 Year-Old Woman's Purse

The comments about the location made me wonder something. Does anyone who listens to this podcast try not to look at the episode title/location so that it comes as a surprise in the middle of the episode, as it does to the actual Spontaneanation improv players whenever they do a show? I've never tried it myself because it's so hard not to see an episode title before listening to the episode, but it reminds me of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" where the episode title is usually a joke that closes out the show's cold open. Watching "Sunny" on a streaming service means having to avert your eyes as you select an episode to watch so as not to spoil the joke. -
I suppose the vagaries of live show bookings are far beyond the ken of fans, but now that the HDTGM crew is branching out into other cities for their live shows, I wonder how one can nudge the crew and a venue together? I have recently relocated to the hinterland of Carlsbad, NM and pretty much the closest place I could probably see any good comedy (or culture of any kind) is Austin, about 7 hours away. The Sklars are already coming to the Moontower Comedy Festival in April, and to have HDTGM there on the same weekend would just be a dream come true. Austin is already a well-known film geek town (Alamo Drafthouse), so it would be perfect.

Guests I'd Love To Hear of HDTGM

Kinda thought this list begins and ends with Aziz Ansari. -
What film got you into the podcast?
Peter Destructo replied to Cockney Mackem's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Having a hard time remembering, but I think I just saw that there was a bad movie podcast on Earwolf and thought it'd be a good listen. The earliest memory I have of listening to HDTGM was the Birdemic episode, so that's likely where I started, being a Weird Al fan and all.
