somewhat related... is it just me or does anyone else see Scott Aukerman every time the Penguin is on screen? not sure why other than them looking vaguely similar in appearance... specifically the scene where he's narcing in the backseat with a shit-eating smirk on his face. all I could think was BATDANCE! but seriously, the Penguin and, to a lesser extent, Bruce were the only interesting characters for me... and for basic cable, it was a little darker than I was expecting (then again, I don't watch much television except for a handful of shows... none of which are procedurals). the scene where Penguin was beating the guy in the alley was pretty brutal, and even better when contrasted with the guy smiling and giving a thumbs up when Gordon approached them. as with most pilots, it had plenty of inconsistencies but it was just compelling enough to get me to keep watching.

been a huge Interpol fan since I was 13 so this was a dream episode. Horatio singing "NYC" was fucking hilarious ("...gimme the first line"), but he should have gone with "Say Hello to the Angels" since all the plane references would have worked better with the Nazi/Taliban themes. or "Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down to Serve in Vietnam"

maybe it's just me, but for me... I thought that was intentional. the first time I heard the song, it's one of the things that immediately hooked me. the first "raised by wolves" in the chorus sounds a little higher than the second and, as far as I can tell, that's mostly Bono with a small touch of a pitch-shift for a piercing effect. most people are vehemently against auto-tune and pitch-shifting of any sort, but if used conservatively (in the case of "Raised by Wolves") or with deliberate artistic purpose, I think it can add something compelling to a song. (see "Draag" by Brainiac, "Impossible Soul" by Sufjan Stevens & "California English" by Vampire Weekend for a few examples of the latter)

of course they're gonna get tons of shit for it (mostly just because they're U2), but I actually like it a lot. aesthetically, it feels like something between the Boy and Joshua Tree covers... and it definitely fits the tone of the album much better than a plain white LP sleeve did.

anyone who's needs to fill that Jason & June void, check out the episode of the League that just aired... it was a Cuckoo's Nest flavored prequel to the Rafi & Dirty Randy episode last season. if nothing else, watch it to see a beardless Zouks... it's a sight to behold.

seriously, this almost needs to have it's own thread. I'm convinced that Cody is fooling us all and he's in deep character as the most inept engineer of all time.... and I say that with love.

if his recent call to Howard tells us anything, it'll probably be to just use the Earwolf's new(ish) toilet... sans grease-chain, of course

conversely, it seems like whenever an audience member was handed a mic I had to turn it up to full volume to hear them.... EAT THE MIC, PEOPLE! (please don't file this under complaining about the live shows, because this one was great)

god damn it, this episode will inevitably have that theme stuck in my head for weeks... again. but to be honest, I always heard "check out the fax, it's the Hollywood Facts." probably just me. I also found it interesting that Andy was so curious about what letter grade a listener would give it... and a little disappointed that Scott didn't offer up a firm C+, but maybe this episode wasn't quite on par with the new U2 album.

Superego now has a very large place in my heart and I owe it to this episode for getting me to finally check it out. I knew of Matt Gourley from his stuff on CBB and Andy Daly's podcast, but his ability to completely transform his voice is fucking masterful. oh, and the sketches with Jeff Davis as the campfire guy are golden... something about everyone half-whispering while holding back intense laughter gets me every time.

due to the content of the most recent episode they released, my guess is they got caught up in a catfishing scam... but if Affirmation Nation and By the Way can come back, anything is possible.

followed by me vaguely defending him and then coming straight to this thread to get my jab in... but anytime there's a hatred bandwagon, I'm kind of hesitant to just jump on. I've similarly defended M. Night (aka Boo Fuck You) on the same pretense... I believe it's possible for someone to have decent intentions but not able to execute it without alienating a large group of people. from what I can tell Kevin Smith doesn't concern himself with being likable and never has, but that shouldn't strictly mean he isn't able to create something of worth... occasionally.

guest: Kevin Smith instead of talking about the film, they discuss his personal life and how something in a completely different script from a completely different director sort of resembled something in the movie that they should be talking about (see Wild Wild West)

wow, Dane Cook being on the show is pretty surprising... but I can't fucking wait for Eric Andre. also, "an orphan returns" in the description of ep. 16 is a colossal understatement if I've ever seen one.... so I'm feeling kinda stabby right about now.

well the new season of Benign Nine starts the 28th... but I'm sure that's just coincidental. honestly... after the troubling delay in dropping Oh Golly! You Devil and constantly wondering if Scott and Zouks were in fact alive, anything is possible.

yeah, good call... this is definitely one from the vaults. they mentioned the "Benign Nine" thing as if it had happened pretty recently and the last episode with Chelsea was Comedy Bang Me! in Morch ("ah, is it Morch already...?") unless this was recorded in the future... *audible sigh*

no joke, I was thinking the exact same thing... I was screaming "HONEYWELL!" while I was listening. then I got home, looked it up, came to the same conclusion you did and decided not to post anything. but they do make fans... and you could probably use that as a blender if you try hard enough. also, I thought for sure that Gemberling was gonna go with Malaysian Flight 370 instead of United 93. c'mon... update your tragic plane-related references, man!
