Episode 100.5 — Minisode 100.5
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Xanadu definitely rivals A View to a Kill in the "best song/worst movie" category. Jeff Lynne, you motherfucking genius.... so damn catchy. but hooooly shit, this movie was garbage... even for 1980. I can understand the nostalgic cult following and all, but it's pretty much unwatchable. -
(but it's still the truth) (which makes it a good joke)

I feel that falls under the category of........ eponymous. much like "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath from the album Black Sabbath. or "Iron Maiden" by Iron Maiden from the album Iron Maiden. etc.

Episode 169 — Open Mike Eagle LIVE Xmas Special at UCBsunset
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
so glad to see Mike on this show... hopefully it's only a matter of time before he's on CBB as well. I caught him with Busdriver and Nocando in 2013 on the Arguments with Dreams tour... very intimate venue and it was actually the first time I'd gotten to see live hip-hop. they each played their own separate sets and then all performed a couple songs together at the end, most notably Werner Herzog. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75jWcoa7Rk0 "I eat fair trade cheese and fart fairness." sadly, I haven't checked out Dark Comedy yet... but that's soon to change. -
BUMP bump damn, I love that song...

Episode 213.5 — 1/02/14 TWO CHARTED 152
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Who Charted?
I wonder if Howard has ever listened to Death Grips and, assuming he has, what he thinks of them... I can't remember if they've ever been mentioned on the show. their stuff has a similar rawness to Bitch You Guessed It, but on a level that's borderline absurd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu-MFuqymsc I feel like hip-hop is experiencing a late-70's/early-80's-hardcore-punk-esque DIY renaissance and, within the next few years, it will transform into something we've never seen or heard before. -

The Queen Is Dead was my first Smiths album so I absolutely love Frankly Mr. Shankly, despite its somewhat obnoxious melody... it's also a perfect contrast to the somber tone of the title track that precedes it. if there's any song on that album that could be considered completely ridiculous, it's Vicar in a Tutu. I've been listening to them since I was 15, so pretty much all of their songs have grown on me at this point. -

I lost my mind when Paul started singing nam-myoho-renge-kyo to the tune of the Cantina song. also, I agree with Scott... Meat Is Murder, while arguably the Smith's best album, is their worst song. it's not necessarily a bad song because it's actually kinda catchy after you get past the animal noises... but when compared to the rest of their music, it's abject garbage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpkPWwTJTSw -

wait... Dabney was Scott?! but they had that whole conversation about livin' life... and having a ball. -
I'm also unashamed to admit that, like Jason and June, a tear or two were shed when DeVito's (ex)wife had her baby. in an otherwise absurd movie, it was a poignant scene that I was definitely not expecting... something about his sincerity in that moment made it very powerful.

corrections and omissions: I think it deserves to be mentioned that this movie shared two crucial plot points with Monkey Shines: awkward morning calisthenics and monkeys. lots of monkeys. also, no reference to Arnold licking cake off an infant's foot in the last scene...? C'MONNNN!
