Episode 210.5 β 12/12/14 TWO CHARTED 149
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Who Charted?
no way! I can understand not liking his vocal style, but I figured Howard would be into his songwriting at least. I love'm me some Syd Barrett, but Roger Waters' vision for Pink Floyd is far superior to anything Gilmour laid down on the last three albums. one word: Animals. -

(directed towards Stard) is that Howard's high-pitched Roger Waters-esque screeching in Rudolph Chewed Off or is it a sample or instrument of some sort? also I can't wait to (hopefully) hear this Tim Armstrong collab! never got into Rancid much, but Operation Ivy are one of my favorites when it comes to ska... on par with all the classic 2 Tone stuff in my opinion. -

mmmmmm, so glad that smegma has made a return appearance on the show. that one person show sounds riveting...ahem...revolting. let's face it, you either have foreskin or a shower... and never the twain shall meet. -
Episode 210 β Artisanal Podcasting

wow, nice shout out to Chisanbop! I hadn't thought about that shit in forever. my aunt knows how to do it and has tried to teach me many times to no avail... mostly because she just looked like a drooling idiot in the process. -
all I know is that until the day I die I'm going to refer to PokΓ©mon as Pocketmotch in my head. it's similar to the way I think "New-brass-car" any time I see the word Nebraska... since that's how I remembered its capital in elementary school. CBB is savagely reprogramming my mind and I couldn't be happier.

fixed.

I have an extremely rare limited test pressing of "Pop Goes the Weasel with the Pillsbury Pop" on 7"... that shit's going for like $600 on eBay.

Episode 98.5 β Minisode 98.5
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I was referring to Paul's quick mention that this was his first James Bond movie, ostensibly when he was a kid. however, I am 24 years old and have no earthly excuse for my ignorance. -

I'm dismayed and somewhat afraid to say that, like Paul, this will be my first James Bond movie. for whatever reason, I've never seen anything 007 related... other than the countless references to it in popular culture, of course. it's pretty much the same reason I never got into Dr. Who until recently: too many actors playing the same person, too much mythology, not enough time. I'm very particular about the manner in which I consume something of that size... I always start from the very beginning, so A View to a Kill is going to be another exception to that rule. plus, I can get down to some Duran Duran and I never realized that tune was a titular song to this movie.... so I'm 'bout to dance into this 2-hour-and-10-minute-long fire and hope for the best worst. -
Episode 206 β The San Diego Mindset
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca
just watched the Kroll Show preview and hoooooly shit, I was pausing it every other minute to laugh. I had no clue Bob was going to play such a large part in the C'zar arc and I can't wait to see more sweet, sweet Ducca on my television screen in January..... if I don't fall prey to double diabetes in the coming weeks. -

Episode 206 β The San Diego Mindset

final season...?!? I didn't catch the special last night, but that's some bittersweet news. he's definitely taking another page out of the Brit book by ending his series before it ever had a chance to get cancelled... so I definitely respect his decision, but it's still a crushing blow to televised sketch comedy. fuck........ now I'm gonna go shame eat a massive salad with burger-croutons. -
Episode 324 β Golden Duchess Cruise Lines
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
for the record, I definitely noticed a pattern and I thought it was just a relatively harmless bit you were doing... but it's good to know that since Case Closed has made a comeback, anything can cause a massive, page-spanning debate. so that being said, here goes... I can honestly say I've never seen any comments about any guests, male or female, that I consider blantantly sexist. this might be due to Dan or other mods deleting the posts in question before I can see them, but with the constant sexual jokes on Earwolf podcasts (i.e. Don DiMello and "the girls", Kulap's sweet, sweet bobas, literally everything that comes out of Zouks' mouth, etc.), I think it's perfectly okay for people to use the same (lack of) discretion when discussing things here, even if it blurs the lines between joke and sincerity. only speaking for myself here, but I tend to find most the regular ladies on these podcasts to be attractive... often times because they're funny. conversely, the same freedom should apply to the women that post on this board... I've seen several comments that talk about how attractive a male guest is, and that's not misconstrued as sexist - which in itself, is sexist. -

hate to stiff-arm here, but London Calling came out in '79... but in December, so Howard was very close. 1980 housed the 10" US compilation Black Market Clash and their massively under-appreciated 3LP juggernaut Sandinista!, which was also a holiday release. if you have any issues with this comment, please contact my legal representation at the law offices of JΓ€ger & Dong, LLC. -
Episode 323 β Pie Quiz with Tears for Fears
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
they sure are... sometime in April I believe. they're also releasing a 7" single for Black Friday titled Motherfucker (of which they're only pressing 5000 copies). I'm glad I work at a place that sells vinyl because I already have mine saved for me at another location and I'm gonna pick it up later in the week... not sure of the markup at other stores, but we're only selling it for $6! -
I guess slow is an overstatment when compared to the sludge or drone metal of today, but I guarantee you all of the people making that music, including Crowbar, grew up listening to Generic Flipper or Gone Fishin'. they basically took the punk sound and deliberately played it at a distorted speed, as if you were listening to a 45 on 33 1/3 rpm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mZn14tWZOw

sounds like TJ's relationship with Jack on Owen and TJ Read the News... and hearing Owen's voice just makes me want more of that podcast as well. if Ducca can make a triumphant comeback, anything can happen. also, I completely lost it when Bob revealed that he took a grade-school fitness test in his 20s. -
with 20+ pages of conversation on this movie, the only thing I can think to mention that might not have been covered are my mixed feelings about the the muscle suit kid's Flipper t-shirt. at first I was elated that a movie this mindless could reference such an underrated and subversive band. for fuck's sake, if you love heavy music and have never listened to Flipper, check them out... they helped bridge the gap between '80s hardcore punk and '90s metal and grunge by influencing bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney, Jane's Addiction and, best of all, Melvins. while nearly every band in San Francisco was playing as fast as they could, they slowed things down to a merciless, sludgy pace that simultaneously attracted and repelled their audience... sadly securing their place as one of those bands that was way before their time to gain the proper amount of traction for them to be as popular as they deserved. aaaaaand then I found this: http://www.forever21...ctid=2005757888 so I'm going to go out on a limb and posit that absolutely no one involved in making the decision for that t-shirt to appear on screen has ever heard of the band Flipper.

Episode 323 β Pie Quiz with Tears for Fears
hypnotizingchickens replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
next year is going to be a big one for '80s bands of all genres... we can look forward to new albums from Tears for Fears, Faith No More, Gang of Four, New Order, D.R.I. and one of my absolute favorite bands from that era, the Pop Group, just announced their first record in 35 years today. shit's about to get real in 2015. -
