I hope Earwolf keeps producing content. Paywall, narwhal, whatever.

Are we sure this isn't an L. Ron Hubbard script?

Practically inescapable for a while. Of course, in the nineties MTV and alt-rock stations held a lot more sway with popular music.

Actors who are underrepresented on the show
joel_rosenbaum replied to Lando's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I mentioned them earlier in thread. Haim has been indirectly covered in the Crank 2 episode, but he's not really a central part of that movie. I'm actually wondering if the avoidance of the Coreys is somewhat intentional, given the darkness/tragedy surrounding their personal lives. -
He has gone completely dark since September. So I'm inclined to agree.

Why hasn't Aziz Ansari been on the podcast yet?
joel_rosenbaum replied to Thrillhouse88's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Seems right. He did WTF with Maron, but that was six years ago. I think he's just really busy. -
Episode 153 - Escape from L.A.: LIVE!
joel_rosenbaum replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Hard to separate this movie from the general hysteria surrounding LA in the nineties. The riots really changed the public perception of the city for quite a while. Without the riots, I don't think you have Escape from LA. Maybe I'm wrong here, but it seems pertinent. -
A message from Earwolf's CEO about yesterday's episode de-publishing
joel_rosenbaum replied to ErikDiehn's topic in General Earwolf
Do you do that with Netflix content, as well? You might have noticed that the broadcast model is popular, even with non-traditional broadcasting services. That's because there's a risk involved in making content and providers typically can't afford to produce their own work. Broadcasters accept that risk in exchange for prospective profits. I mean, this is basic economics. -
let's get weird

It's not big deal when you realize that's part of the model. Right from the beginning of the internet, this has been the going model for providing content. Trial periods followed by subscriptions. And the modern model is even friendlier to consumers because you're still getting the most recent (i.e. valuable) content for free. In the publishing industry, the model works the other way (think about public domain works of literature, science and medical journals, etc.) Advertising just doesn't generate the kind of revenue that print and broadcast advertisements do. And even if you do not want, or cannot afford to subscribe to premium content, just the fact that other people *are* means that you benefit from new content. Because that provides the incentive for podcast producers to keep producing podcasts.

So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993)
joel_rosenbaum replied to Ofcoursemyhorse's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
like an orange on a toothpick... -
I generally prefer the episodes where they take down mainstream movies, like Demolition Man, Face/Off, Mortal Kombat, etc. Part of that is the fact that there are well-executed aspects of these movies, which makes them watchable. Another part is the joy in watching popular dreck get torn down. There are some exceptions, however, like Sleepaway Camp, which was barely watchable and almost uniformly terrible, but made for a great episode.

I get that some of you guys are hurting for dough, but Howl is pretty cheap. These guys need to eat, too. You also get the back catalogue of WTF for what it's worth (for me, a lot).

Let's go with some Academy Award winners. Lou Gosset Jr. Adrien Brody Cuba Gooding Jr. (mentioned plenty already). Of course Nic Cage is already well-trod territory. -

Fuck yes, this movie is terrible. It's this weird forgotten blip on Schwarzenegger's career. Belushi, well, par for the course.

Good Movies Recommendations
joel_rosenbaum replied to TamaraLeeLee's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I'm years behind on this, but I finally got around to watching the Martian. I was impressed, despite a few eye-rolling "Hollywood" moments. For a long movie, it's paced surprisingly well. Ridley Scott defied Sickboy's Unifying Theory on this one. -
What Movie Would You Choose If You Got To Guest Host?
joel_rosenbaum replied to RyanSz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Short Circuit 2, but only if Aziz was my co-guest. -
Highlander II: The Quickening (1991)
joel_rosenbaum replied to JSacks06's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Time to finally watch this thing, then. Like the producers of the series, I skipped II and always thought (somehow) that the MVP version was actually the sequel.- 76 replies

Is Threepenny Opera a musical? I liked that one. But not the movie. The movie is definitely HDTGM material.

Episode 149 - The Lawnmower Man: LIVE! (w/ Neil Casey, Emily Heller)

Listening to Pierce Brosnan on the Tonight Show reminded me of this classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Flf7ZtDvMew -
Speaking of tearjerker scenes, this one doesn't work on me anymore, because the movie is.. well, unbelievably cheesy. But the first time... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdgK5d7Y5LQ&feature=youtu.be&t=3m30s (the embedded timestamp wont work; fast forward to 3:30 if you like).

Aphex Twin. Although I'm not sure that there's anything wrong with *those* people.
