Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
joel_rosenbaum replied to Andrew1326657706's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I don't know, man. Beverly Hills Cop III was so terrible it wasn't even fun-terrible. I think Beverly Hills Cop II splits the difference pretty nicely -- a really fun movie with plenty of Tony Scott WTF moments. -

I really enjoyed Miller in Silicon Valley but it seems to me that he thinks professional trolling is a good career move. Best of luck to him, I guess.

Musical Mondays - Week 17 - The Lure
joel_rosenbaum replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I've been watching GOT on HBO Now and have been disappointed with pretty much every episode since they outpaced the books. The plotting is a mess. I'm committed to seeing the series through, like a bad mystery novel, but they are wrapping things up more like Lost (or Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, etc.) than Mad Men or the Sopranos. I haven't seen last night's episode yet, so I'm hoping for some kind of turnaround. -
I just had an epiphany re: Timecop theory. What Timecop postulates regarding matter occupying the same space is not a scientific theory but rather a philosophical treatise. As several astute posters have already pointed out, the same person at different points of time is not comprised of the same matter. Our cells are constantly turning over, we are constantly replenishing our body with new water and oxygen, and even the components that make up those cells are being decomposed and regenerated, etc. All of this fits in with the philosophy of Heraclitus, who famously said that "no man ever steps in the same river twice". Timecop, with its insistence on shared matter between the same person at different times, is instead proposing a world that follows the philosopy of Parmenides. In Parmenides' philosophy, nothing ever changes. It is only our faulty senses that deceive us into believing that things change. In this view, the Timecop matter paradox makes perfect sense. But getting back to the science of it, what happens when the air inside the Timecop car finds its past self somewhere in the world? Do we get some sort of weird air implosion? Is this a kind of matter-antimatter type collision?

The signs of a bad movie list

Going back to Running Man (and hopefully Freejack, eventually) : Rock star stunt casting. -
I suppose this is the backdoor movie suggestion thread. Tangent alert, when I studied abroad my friends mercilessly teased me for having this suggestively titled book

I was also pretty put off by Logan. I wasn't really invested in any of the characters and the action was... dare I say it... boring? p.s. sorry paul A+ on the Blood Bros pick though (also going to dig into the Leftovers this week).

I should probably spoiler it, but pictures are worth a thousand words.

I have learned that my son is not allowed to pick anything on our Fire TV, ever. p.s. the Metacritic score (9) for this movie is lower than Nine Lives (11) got last year. Higher than Dinesh D'Souza's propaganda piece, though.

I get that, I mean my favorite HDTGM movies are the "almost good" or "popular but actually bad" movies like Face/Off, Demolition Man, Devil's Advocate, etc. But I definitely have enjoyed almost all of the trash movie episodes, too.

With Paul declaring the prospect of a Southland Tales episode all but dead, I think it's worth considering that the politics of bagging recent movies are a lot stickier. I don't think it's a coincidence that the recent era of movies was covered more thoroughly in the earlier episodes.

Tangentally related to your post; did Dick Miller ever turn down a movie? This was two years after Gremlins, in which he had a fairly significant role. Did he need to take these movies anymore? I guess he was a Corman guy through and through. -

Paul made me feel real old when he had to pull up Barth so that people would know who he's talking about.
