Episode 182 - Rock Star: LIVE!

How could you not know that you're in Seattle? It's one thing if you're talking about a someone more generic midwestern city, with shared architecture and landscape. Seattle is not that. There's the sound, mountains everywhere, the freakin' Space Needle! Maybe Chris was actually in Tacoma and the movie just effed the whole thing up.

Which part of Shannon Hoon could you best replicate? The falsetto or urinating on the fans in the front row?

Musical Mondays Week 31 Umbrellas of Cherbourg

No and hell no. I am a much different man than I was ~18-19 years old.

By the way, any time I see a French movie, my mind immediately wanders to this:

The irony of glam metal was that it superficially embraced femininity while at its core being pure macho chauvinism. I always thought it was Guns N'Roses that killed glam, being that they came from Los Angeles and had a direct local impact on the scene. Not a metalhead so I may be off here.

Musical Mondays Week 31 Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I agree here. While it was an inspired idea, putting all the dialogue in song was hard to follow. The movie being French helped with this, as it's almost impossible to imagine something similar done as successfully in English (nevermind German or Swedish).

I don't think you could argue otherwise. Of course children are, by and large, going to adopt similar beliefs and values as their parents, but they will develop quite a few of their own. Some of that will be shaped by social trends outside of the media they consume, a lot of it will be shaped by their friends, and another good portion of it will be a result of their own idiosyncrasies, but what they watch, play, etc. will matter, too. Now my son is four, we watch Daniel Tiger and other PBS shows together. We've seen a few Pixar movies together. We haven't crossed this bridge, yet. But if I'm being honest, I'm mainly concerned about the internet. It watches you back. And it's not all filled with lovely folks like you all (as you already know).

I'm glad Paul is with me on the "do valentine's on another day" idea.
  9. Are we doing this, really?

Short answer? No. I abide by Sickboy's Unifying Theory. If I really like a band, it's for work that they've done in the past. Chances are they'll never replicate it, or even come close. This is somewhat less true for books and film, but still, pretty true.

Good Weird Movies You'd Recommend for HDTGM

Reminding myself that the cleaning / sex scene from "I Know Who Killed Me" is a straight ripoff (excuse me, homage) from Delicatessen.

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

Judgement Night had a pretty interesting soundtrack.

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

If you freejacked a deceased English monarch, let's say one who died prematurely, does that make you king/queen of England? What if someone else freejacked a patrilineal ancestor? Do you have to concede the throne? I could see a real succession crisis brewing in this freejack universe.

The signs of a bad movie list

This trend started with Donnie Darko (a good movie, to be sure)

Let's get to that audience question. Who would you guys freejack? I would go with Steve Prefontaine.

I am shocked that Jessica said nothing about this. In my time in PA it's the kind of thing people get surprisingly pissed off about.

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

The suicide booth has to be a direct reference to Robert Chambers' short story, "The Repairer of Reputations", which takes place in a dystopian (then)-future New York City. The story comes from a collection with the more familiarly known "The King In Yellow", referenced heavily in True Detective.

Let's talk Pink Floyd cover songs, folks. Plenty to choose from. I like some of the weirder ones. Relevant to the Wall:

I am falling ridiculously far behind with work and family commitments -- I barely got my musical monday selection off the ground -- but I will have to make time for Freejack. I actually liked this movie as a kid and I'm fully ready to get my hate on for it.

Musical Mondays Pink Floyd's The Wall

I think I've used up my words for the day, but the short answer is probably Scarfe's animations. They are disturbing as hell but still attractive somehow. Bob Hoskins' "fuck me", whose delivery I still emulate when I come across something FUBAR "When the Tigers Broke Free" and "Mother", recorded and re-recorded for the movie (respectively) and contained fragments of an interesting story -- missed opportunity ultimately.
