J.W. Stillwater must look just like PFT, cuz Traci kept trying to start a sentiment-off. She musta been so confused when PFT didn't take the bait. -

Was that the sticker Phillippe had on his car, where part two is Calvin washing his hands with the same facial expression? http://achewood.com/...p?date=07252005 (Sorry for link, I couldn't paste the image) -
Props to Scotty Auk for picking up that Lady Sov reference.

Most entertaining interview with a dentist I expect ever to have heard.

Didn't they try that already? It didn't go too well.

Whip up a pilot and get it to Andy Daly, stat!

I'm not mad at Zoe Quinn, just a little disappointed that she got so much attention for making such a crummy game.

Worth seeing just for that bendy-knee move he does during Drinkenstein. Seriously, this movie is so lulzy that I'd assumed they'd done it on HDTGM already, despite clear evidence to the contrary.

Episode 314 β Yβall Heard Any of These Names Before?
Hagbard Celine replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
This is especially funny, considering all the work the Pharaoh Wizard's done for the lesbian community. -

The military does, in fact, say "ma'am." Point to Steal-water, as we do not yet live in Star Trek Times. Likewise, "ring mistress" would be technically correct, though of course it is Cam's prerogative to gender-neutralize if she perceives that to be a sexist reduction. Ironic since the word "mistress" denotes a dominant female, which seems if anything a sexist affirmation of one's power, but I guess that gets muddled since the word mistress has connotations of being somebody's side-piece, so society's to blame and now we can't have nice things. Course it's CBB, so who knows if she actually meant any of that anyway. I never know if any opinions expressed on this show are ever real in the first place, seeing as Scott et al will say whatever's necessary to keep the chainsaws in the air. I trust the characs more than I do the actual celebrities because at least w/ the characs you know they're made up. -
Interesting segue into GamerGate. I respectfully disagree with much of what was said on that topic, most especially the casual way in which it's implied that it's so clearly a one-sided affair. (Although I do understand that, as a podcaster, you've got the prerogative to invoke authoritative bias in order more clearly to establish your voice.) I won't try to articulate what Christina Hoff Sommers has far better said elsewhere, but I do appreciate Robbie's admission that he's not entirely turned on to "gamer culture" or the sort of people who might identify as such. That simple admission is a microcosm of what might have caused much of the anti-gamer vitriol, namely that nobody really bothered to understand who was beefing, or about what. Far easier to lump in all gamers with the foul-mouthed 12 year-olds screaming obscenities into their Xbox headsets while playing Call of Duty, or to assume that this is all some pent-up frustration from a lifetime of getting wedgies in high school. Anyway. This wasn't a #gg podcast and it's not my forum anyway so I won't go on about it.

Quesadilla + Burrito = Quesarito. Wondering if the caller had at least made that connection beforehand. Came across as a pretty classic 90s PC reaction, with the emphasis on how it's not even a real Spanish word. Much more fertile ground in conceding that Taco Bell hasn't pretended to be an authentic Mexican dining experience for decades. Kudos for finding something to talk about for ten minutes.

Episode 512 - Iβm Not Racist But
Hagbard Celine replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Yo, Is This Racist?
It's the "all due respect..." of the post-PC racist milieu. -
Andrew & Josh are prescient this week. Found myself thinking during the first few minutes how "Disney diversity" might make for an interesting discussion in and of itself. About six minutes in, Andrew took forced/arbitrary diversity head-on. Growing up I remember noticing Disney diversity and wondering if they got their movie ideas by making a list of ethnic groups and asking, "Who have we not covered yet?" At the time it felt sort of patronizing and insincere. Can't make up my mind now, whether it's better to go out of your way to make a Mulan or a Lilo & Stitch, or like Andrew said just randomly name your character "something ethnic-y" and see what happens.

Episode 509 - Term African Americans
Hagbard Celine replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Yo, Is This Racist?
Crushed it on this one. From Michael Richard's cringe-worthy use of "Afro Americans" to white Africans. All bases covered. -
Not that anybody asked, but it was actually Pumpkin who spat on New York, not the other way around. I apologize for knowing that.

The latter half of this discussion (how inflection can make anything sound racist) totally reminds me of the time some guy called Aziz Ansari a "jawa," but the closest they got was a brief shout-out to Tatooine.
