  1. I noticed that guy Josh used the term "transhuman" which is common in sci-fi and specifically Warhammer 40k, Which would make sense as the whole view of the universe featuring humans on other planets makes an easy lead in to this movie, where as someone who isn't already a sci-fi nerd would feel this movie way harder to approach.

    5. The Ranger Creed does have something about not leaving your comrades behind – well, kind of: “I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.” (http://en.wikipedia....ki/Ranger_Creed)

Soon as I heard him bring it up I checked through 8 pages of comments to see if anybody had already gone to the trouble of making the correction. Well done.

  3. FUCK YES I love The Guard. It's done by John Michael McDonagh, the same writer/director who did Calvary. Anyone who enjoys this podcast would probably love The Guard since, on its surface it is a buddy cop movie, so you get those "contrast in style and background" tropes and jokes, but it manages to do some fantastic and original things with the genre. The movie displays a herculean effort in how unique and immediately enjoyable it is. Please watch both these films, you guys. Calvary is much more tragic, but both movies have weight.

This looks WAY better than Lake Placid. Motion to all watch The Guard and discuss til the next ep comes out.

  4. I'm occasionally struck by British idioms popping up on the HDTGM podcast that I thought were unknown across the pond. I'm sure Paul or Jason referred to as idea being "nicked" from another film recently...

    Ha, yeah.

I bet since "hoi polloi" is Greek, though, he probably just nicked that one from Mantzoukas.
