In The Glimmer Man, the oddly constructed insult "ugly white ass" spoken by Seagal's character reminds me of a similar line from a Philip Roth novel (truly it does).
The protagonist of The Human Stain, Coleman Silk, is a retired university professor who, by all rights, is caucasian. Over an argument with his lawyer, Coleman shows a momentary flash of anger and yells, "I never again want to hear that self-admiring voice of yours or see your smug fucking lily-white face."
By degrees, it's slowly revolved in the novel that Coleman is a light-skinned black man who had, during the civil rights era, begun presenting himself as a Jewish man, a masquerade he continued into his sixties.
This leads me to conclude The Glimmer Man is an unofficial remake of a Philip Roth novel.
