Guest DigitalMuaddib Posted October 9, 2013 Diamonds are not actually mined like other ores. Diamonds were originally only found in alluvial deposits after being pushed to the surface and carried away through erosion. The first diamond found in Africa was found on the banks of a river near Hopetown, South Africa and was just thought to be a pebble. It was a 21.25 carat diamond now known as the Eureka diamond. Â Finding a diamond on the ground may be the only accurate thing in this movie. Share this post Link to post
NotTheNarnold 413 Posted October 9, 2013 Sources? Because every other pop culture thing I've seen involving diamond mining has them in the ground. Hence why there are diamond minds. Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted October 10, 2013 Some diamonds are found alluvially, but many are also mined much like any other mineral (usually by open-pit mining). And volcanoes are the most common source of diamonds, so they did at least have that idea right. Though I doubt you'd ever find diamonds the size of the ones Tim Curry was scooping up alluvially. Those things looked to be like 3000 carats. 1 Share this post Link to post
