The Day Time Ended (1980)

You should definitely check out The Day Time Ended for an episode of How Did This Get Made? It's a perfect fit in my opinion, cheesy Sci-Fi but with enough insane dialogue to keep it interesting. This is coupled with a disjointed plot and seemingly random special effects sequences. Most of all while you're watching it try to remember that this came out AFTER both Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and WAY after 2001: A Space Odyssey.

As far as I know this one has never been covered by Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Rifftrax either.
