barrybirdburger 0 Posted February 6, 2020 Well the baseline plot is that Claire Danes is a bored department store clerk in LA whose only dream is to be whisked away by a wealthy man. Obviously this story is written by a man and that man in this case happens to be Steve Martin. This movie is based off a real novella written by Steve Martin that he then stars in and narrates throughout. Seems definitely like a weird old guy vanity project. I think it was supposed to be akin to quirky romances like Eternal Sunshine or Garden State or something like that, but instead it's really creepy and unsettling the entire time. Plus the score is so melodramatic and overbearing for no reason. It's about 45 minutes too long at 1hr 46min. Added bonus: For some reason Mark Kozelek is in this movie a lot in a fictional band that play real Sun Kil Moon songs. Please watch this and I'm sorry if you do. Shopgirl (2005) Trailer Share this post Link to post
