ohthatskindafunny 0 Posted February 8, 2020 In 1981, Johnny Cash released his 66th album (produced by Billy Sherrill), which featured his first even music video, for the album's title track, "The Baron." The video and the song both tell the story of a older gentleman and pool shark, who plays a younger pool hustler. During the course of their match, The Baron comes to realize the young hustler is actually his own son, as the young guy tried to gamble with a ring, which the Barron recognizes as belonging to his ex-wife. In the video, Marty Stuart plays the kid, and June Cash Carter plays the mother. Good song but maybe not a memorable Cash classic. Even so, it's a cool example of a story/song that became a staple of country music, and which Cash was especially known for/ However, miraculously and thankfully, the song/video was then optioned for a movie, called The Barron and the Kid. CASH actually plays the lead role, an aged pool shark and general man-in-black, that returns to his hometown. And, yes, he learns about a son, talks frankly with his ex, deals with the regrets over his life, and attempts to reconnect with his forgotten family. Is is a great movie? Kinda. Should we all watch this movie? Obviously. Will we all learn a lesson? Clearly. Is pool a major plot point? Not really. chorus from, "The Baron": "Wish I had a known ya When you were a little younger Around me you might have learned a thing or two If I had known you longer You might be a little Stronger And maybe you'd shoot straighter Then you doooo Maybe you'd shoot straighter Then you do"  Share this post Link to post
