    The Best of Nerd Poker

    1) Using a dead dwarf as a flying device. 2) Parn's Village. The whole thing was creepy and awesome 3) Does this look infected?

    Nerd Poker Fan Campaign?

It looks like Kindle does not work well with Roll20. I learned this from a friend and online testimonies. My next major purchase will be a laptop, but I'm not sure when this'll happen. When I do have a laptop, I will definitely be interested in joining. I'll message Not-betty-white with my contact info.

    Nerd Poker Fan Campaign?

Nice! I will need to talk to some nerdly friends to figure this out. Me and technology don't mix This seems like a good time to share my current game. Here's a 5th Edition blog for our Adventure League games. I'm Adam https://hereticencounters.wordpress.com/

Damn, sound likes fun. Unfortunately, all I have is a kindle fire. I doubt Roll20 works on it.

EPISODE 148 — Pleasured by Fairies

It could be like an episode "Herman's Head," except less sitcom and more dick tracing

    EPISODE 146 — Moon Festival Pt. 2

I wouldn't mind listening to the guys go through a deadly "save or die" Gygaxian dungeon. Tomb of Horrors comes to mind...

    EPISODE 145 — Moon Festival

    Characters in your own games

I used Glinnishmoor as a home base in my old 4e campaign a year or two ago.

New DM - Map Makers? Just The DM Tips?

Here's a little about my situation... In the area where I live, Wizards of the Coast is well supported by Hobby Stores. It has a lot to do with (A)dventurers (L)eague, which is convention style DnD intended to introduce beginners to 5th Edition. Although this style of play is not exactly my cup of tea, I've met quite a few players through AL. Hopefully in a month or two, I can start DMing a game there. Meanwhile, I'm playing a 6th level Evoker Wizard named Navin Johnson and flinging fireballs every chance I get. I found this Hobby Store through the Wizards of the Coast store locator. Pic of the place where I play. https://m.facebook.com/events/695814107215930/ Two of those tables are playing DnD, the rest are playing various board games. (I'm in this pic. Right below the guy facing the camera that's standing and drinking a water. I'm sitting in profile, arms folded with a black shirt.) Side note: I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before a couple of months ago, I only played with family and friends at home (roughly 25 years). This has been an awesome first time experience playing in "public."

Arcane Focus. This is something that still confounds players in my group and we've been playing for several months. My take: An Arcane Focus allows a caster to ignore the required spell components and just cast the spell (similar to wands in Harry Potter). You can NOT use an Arcane Focus if the spell components require money. For an example of this, look at the Find Familiar spell. It requires 10 g.p. in spell components. A spell focus can literally be anything the Player wants it to be (the DM has final say on this). ETA Though I've never played it, Mines of Phandelver in the Starter Set is considered a great adventure and a good introduction to 5e. If you go to any 5e forum and ask about it, I'm sure you'll get a ton of advice. PS I find any edition of DnD is much better when I'm high. ;-)

This is important. I have wasted plenty of time and energy trying to anticipate every detail. Don't do what I did. It's a good way to get burned out by chasing your own tail. ...and, yes, tell us how it goes!

To be honest, I usually just Google "dungeon map" and print something. Anyway, here's a map generator: https://donjon.bin.sh/d20/dungeon/ I'd keep it simple at first; a small town with a few interesting NPCs and a dungeon nearby. No need to create a huge mega-dungeon. Maybe some ruins with 4 to 6 encounters stocked with your favorite monsters, possibly throw in a trap or puzzle. When all else fails, talk to your players and ask them what they want. Common sense would dictate that you should do this first, but I find a new group doesn't really know what they like initially. It usually takes a few sessions and out-of-game discussions.
