This may be the first movie I don't watch before the show in months (maybe almost a year!) Just too damn busy this last week, and the wife is not one to enjoy "awesomely bad" Whomp whomp.

EPISODE 119 - Maximum Overdrive: LIVE!
OoofMaGOOF replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Jason scream singing "You're The Best Around" at the beginning absolutely slayed me, AND helped me wake up on my drive to work this morning! Holy cow was that great. -
That was surprisingly dull-it kind of reeked of a premise that was not well explored. You have mechanized objects getting a mind of their own and attacking humans...and the only thing that happens with that is some big rigs trap some people at a truck stop? Yeesh.

Also, I had a great convo with my buddy about this movie. The Rock was bar none my favorite part, because to me he looked and acted like he knew he was in a totally bonkers movie and he was just having a fucking BLAST, because he understood what it was. Vin Diesel as Dom is acting like he's in a very serious drama, which completely clashes with the feel of the movie. He's awesome in Perfect Dark and pretty much all the Riddick movies, but here...yikes.

About haflway through and I am LOVING this epsiode. It's been a long tough week and this is so nice to have heading into a long weekend. I love you Paul, June, Zouks and Adam! Also, just have to say I thought their discussion of female characters was something I didn't think about, but they make some pretty great (and sad) points. Did love that Ronda Rousey appearance/fight though!
-
Okay, that was decently entertaining. But I found myself rolling my eyes at how absurd the action was, rather than enjoying it a lot. I mean, I love over the top action as much as the next guy...but driving a car into a helicopter? Stomping on cracking concrete and making someone fall through it? Come on now.
-
Yeah I've had to look up a few character histories so far, but I'm following. What the hell was in that package, an A-bomb?!
-
Well, against all reason, I've decided to watch it today, despite not having seen ANY of the other movies in the series. How confused will I be? Time to find out...
-
I was hoping for a studio episode...but I'm psyched to have Mr. Scott back. I've never seen any of the F&F movies, not sure I'll even watch #7-I think some movies are fun to NOT watch and just hear the gang talk about them. I am VERY excited to watch Maximum Overdrive though, as ridiculous over-the-top Stephen King is one of my favorite things in the world.

Holy cow, people on Facebook are FURIOUS about a picture they made with Jason's quote about cats. Really people? He said he hates cats, not that he wants to burn any house with a cat in it to the ground.

There's actually a great local video store here in Denver still, but I no longer live in the city and it's the only one I know of
-
My take on that was totally "Well, we can't afford to SHOW this, so just pack in a bunch of expository dialogue with scrolling text."
-
So hear me out here, but I watched the first 5-6 minutes last night and....parts of it were kind of cool! Namely: -The look of the opening. It was actually kinda creepy and interesting -This movie is so colorful! Maybe it's over saturation of all those gray, bleak "gritty" movies lately but I felt like it really popped. -The T Rex Puppet/costume is super impressive. But yeah, that's all I've got so far...the rest is just puzzling...
-
I have to say, I found the trailer for video stores truly, oddly fascinating-I'd never heard anything like that! And well, dammit...it made me miss video stores. I grew up in a small-ish town, and we always had the local video store. Then Blockbuster came and it was a HUGE DEAL. I'd never seen somewhere so cool! I actually rented from Blockbuster as lately as a couple years ago, before they all went under. Kids these days will never know the joy of making a trip to the video store! Here's a relevant video to end my miniature rant:

Refreshing my feed to see there wasn't a mini episode today had me like...
-
Yeah I've heard he's a great, great guy. There's a really cool podcast called "I Was There Too" with Matt Gourley, he interviews bit players from famous movies about their experience. He interviewed the passengers and bus driver from Speed, and they all said he was the nicest, most approachable person they'd ever worked with.
-
Yep, that's been my interpretation as well. Either way, when I heard that line my reaction was "The fuck was that?! That really came out of left field!" Also ties into the debate about whether or not it's a kids film. That was the first real moment that made me say "WAIT...is this supposed to be for kids?!"
-
I definitely get it, it left a lot of people sour. I just took it as "They took his car, whatever. But when they took his connection to his recently deceased wife, that put him over the edge." But yes either way...not pleasant.

I can't seem to quote the actual post, but to reply to: They really have it in for the dog. The only movies I've seen where dogs were killed for no readily discernible reason were the first two Terminator. MINOR SPOILER FOR THE FILM JOHN WICK WHICH IS AWESOME Keanu Reeves is finally pushed to revenge when these Russian mobsters kill his dog. They steal his beloved muscle car, beat the shit out of him...but it's not until they kill his dog that he's like FUCK THESE GUYS. It was upsetting to see, but I loved that it's what spurred him to take these assholes out. By the way, that movie is well worth a watch. It's an amazing action movie.
-
Not sure if this falls into corrections and omissions but...no mention in the ep of the bonkers scene on the boat at the beginning?! Absolutely ripe for material. "Wait, I'm a cop!" "I don't care." And a dog was thrown into the water! Maybe it was in the first part that wasn't recorded Paul mentioned, but I would've loved to hear June's reaction to the whole scene.
-
Dearest Paul, Zouks, and June: I ever sincerely hope that the new episode shall be in my feed tomorrow, as I fear my heart cannot take much more of thinking about this film that is "Top Dog" without hearing Zouks' bafflement, and June's upsetting feelings at a dog being punted from a boat. Whilst I do understand that you have life beyond this podcast, I need you. I dearly hope the new episode will be ready for my morning drive into the city. Yours ever truly, Ooof
-
Interesting...so is this a question of the live ep turning out poorly? I'd actually feel really bad if they did this live episode but can't air it because of quality. But man, how cool would it be if you were there and it never got released?
-
Well, I guess I get why the ep didn't come out today...but I was very sad this morning refreshing my podcast feed over and over hoping to see it appear

Just had to stifle hysterical laughter at work...so thank you. Whenever I get stressed now I'm going to look at this gif.
