  1. Mmmm, and I'll speak on that. Ya see, the people that listen to that. The "listeners"... they'll listen to that and think "Hmmm that's funny".... and then they'll think "oh well, yeah, there's no secret there".....and then they'll go on the forums and be like "sure, yes, showbiz is blah, blah, blah..." and what not. Then they will say things, and using the technique of "yes, and...", they'll fill up 9 pages of comments.

Yes, and then they'll think they had a good idea but forget. Yep, and then the vibe between themselves and their own butt will be immediate. Yeah, and then...

  2. Very proud of Shayes and Hawn for being so brave on the show today. There was a lot of talk of vampires and ghosts and nobody got too spooked out. And uh, to people that think it's lame to adopt the schtick of the hosts? I guess I'd just like to say *EEEHHHH*, WRONG! It actually IS very fun and very smart and a nice thing to do.

    Thank You for noticing!

  3. I have been rigidly reluctant to warm up to these Hollywood Handbook gents...

But the spit take-worthy, lightning quick response of "farmy brat" won me over instantly :)

I immediately realized that we are indeed in the company of true improv magnificos.

    Well done CBB

Also props for revisiting the Foam Corner theme for the first time since young Foamie shuffled off this mortal coil - miss you Harris!

check out I4H eps with Sean, really good on those. Daniel The Miracle Beagle & Gun Control are my favs.

  4. it's also worth mentioning that German industrial pioneers Einstürzende Neubauten have two songs that appear in this movie...

(this isn't your parents' industrial music, i.e. Nine Inch Nails or Rammstein, it's industrial music... these motherfuckers are using power saws and banging on sheets of metal)

they're videos are extremely unsettling and slightly cheesy... so I can actually understand how they fit in the context of this film.

James Caan also revealed that he would actually write lines on the extras' heads, and even went as far as sticking post-it notes on Caan's face when they were making the Godfather so he could remember his lines, whilst still looking like he was actually talking to the person he was in a scene with.

Hmmmm.... Post-It notes weren't released to the marketplace until 1977.... So either Caan is a liar or Marlon was doing some early field testing for 3M.

  7. What can I say, that hasn't already been said? Not only is this is the best comedy podcast of all time and space, but it might be the most fun thing I've ever been a party to. I can rewatch episodes of TV shows, rewatch movies, relisten to comedy albums and standup acts, but nothing trumps this. This is the ultimate in entertainment. It makes me feel like I'm part of the show. Simply put, it is unparalleled. From the bottom, sides and top of my heart, thank you Matt Besser and gang! I listen to this thing at least once a week; it makes me happy every single time I hear it.

    Seconded!

    That is for June.

    Omissions -

This movie ended up being directed by legendary filmmaker John Frankenheimer who directed The Manchurian Candidate, Birdman of Alcatraz, and Ronin. Frankenheimer apparently hated Kilmer and is said to have yelled, "Get this bastard off my set!" when they wrapped on Kilmer.

Brando and his Mini-Me were also the inspiration for the mad scientist and his mini in South Park.

  9. Happy Hooray Show Wednesday Kidz!

Yes, UCB Sunset is wonky. We've addressed that issue on episode 7 "Jes Suis UCB" and elsewhere. If you have never been there, there is what I refer to as a giant moat between the stage and the audience. It's a newish venue and everyone has kind of figured that out at this point, and I trust it will be addressed. Also, the positioning of the audience mic(s) was probably not ideal, but I don't know what the solution is in that space other than setting up 4-8 audience mics to get a better sound.

I am pretty proud of the mix on this show in spite of all of that. The recording I was given was a single stereo file with the stage panned hard left and the audience panned hard right, which I then converted to 2 mono channels and mixed. Finding the right balance of bleed from the audience, natural echo and balancing the performers was actually a lot more difficult than I anticipated.

I assure you the audience was laughing, although it is very hard to hear the laughs even when you are on stage. Keep in mind that a lot of times the audience is laughing you are not hearing it because Horatio or someone else is laughing directly into a hot mic.

Inside baseball for this episode: All of the needledrops you hear were added in post. There was no music in the house during the live recording.

Some seriously tight cuts between those commercials Chad. I find bumping the EQ between 8k and 16k helps you hear the audience a lot better.

I'll never forget where I was the weekend "The Watch" bombed.
