    City Lights

Oh that isn't what I see as the film's flaws; I was mostly being sarcastic about Amy and Snow White up there, tbh. Though I do think that's part of what we're doing here with this podcast, isn't it? We're not assuming anything is great. Or that looking at things in a modern lens will get the same result. I know the initial conceit was to watch great movies. But it's also to think, is this still? Why should we cut anything any slack? That's been the most interesting thing for me to think about, and to hear Paul & Amy discuss (and us here). At first I was very similar to Paul here -- I've seen maybe 40 of the list, but it's been at least 20 years for most of those. And I'm not clueless, I know what most of these films are about or like even I haven't sat through them before. I wanted to learn about the language of great movies; that's why I started this podcast. But that's less my focus now, I think, and I find myself wondering, do these hold up to more current and my own sensibilities? Not everything has to be woke, I don't think I'm demanding that, but I dunno, I think someone should hold some of these films to the fire a bit.

I guess we'll get into it tomorrow but I halfway agree with Cameron. It is delightful, but I think other early Disney movies are much better.

I'm hoping she goes cynical about Snow White tomorrow
  4. Hey everyone who comes here just to rip on a guest, Nobody cares. Talk about the movies. thanks
  5. I watched this movie like 4 days ago and I have no idea what any of you are talking about
  6. Sure, but I mean, I also want to watch them all I'm not OCD on many things but I just don't jump into art like that. I start it at the start.
  7. *shudders* I can't do it! I can't just watch the 5th movie of a series. Maybe if they're unrelated like Bond or something, but not a series like this.
  8. yep. though now i also have to watch all the Twilights too so this 'series' may suffer. i'll def watch the 1937 one tho.
  9. 12th is good, it gives me 11 days to watch the whole series, not 4.

    City Lights

I think they do probably fall in love. I don't think this is a cynical story. It's about a woman gaining sight, and a man gaining love, a millionaire being clowned. It doesn't seem to fit to me that suddenly at the very end, he wouldn't get the girl after going through all that. As I said on Letterboxd, I don't really consider City Lights a comedy. That probably sounds insane, but I don't think its comedic bits are notable (except for the boxing). But as a story being told through cinema, it's pretty close to perfect.

Musical Mondays Week 62 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Thanks I'll let you know if needed, but I did put it on my phone and for a 2.5 hour movie it'll probably have to watch it in a few sittings.

Musical Mondays Week 62 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

I wasn't in the mood to watch this this weekend but hopefully will sometime soon. (Blame Unspooled and West Side Story, I wasn't ready for another 2.5 hour musical.) But I do have a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang memory from as a kid. At some point, we rented it from the video store, I'm guessing like age 8-10 or so. My parents were going somewhere and the neighbor kid (maybe he was like 15-16) down the street was coming over to babysit. I distinctly remember him bringing Neverending Story to watch with us, and he was very much like 'why in the world would we watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?' like it was the uncoolest thing possible. But I feel like this may have been one of the first times where I learned something isn't cool and Chitty has always been in that 'not hip' category for me ever since haha. I don't remember what we ended up watching that day, but I do know I saw Chitty a few times back then (though I don't remember very much about it 30+ years later).

    Episode 209.5 - Minisode 209.5

And Shannen Doherty is in the other one I mentioned! (And she sings in it!) (Maybe it will be my Musical Monday pick next time through haha) But yea, I think Paul mentioned that June wants them do to a LMN movie but I dunno, Harry & Meghan isn't quite the same category as those old weird ones. We need a couple real ones picked here to satisfy June (and me). There was a crazy one where Yasmine Bleeth had a face transplant or something like that. I used to watch so many of those in university, and they've all stuck with me for some reason.

    Episode 209.5 - Minisode 209.5

I dunno but number one has to be Rockula Also wouldn't mind if they dove into some old Lifetime Movie Network ones, like the classic cheese ones from the '90s like Mother May I Sleep With Danger or Friends 'Til The End Oh I once watched a Spanish Fast and the Furious ripoff called Combustion which was pretty terrible if they want to branch out into foreign films. that would be a good one

    West Side Story

I kind of wanted Maria to gun some fools down at the end
  20. Interestingly Bob Dylan's "Fourth Time Around" (a year later) is in turn said to be a response to Lennon's "Norwegian Wood"
  21. This episode was good. I think Conan knows when to goof off and when to be serious and when the guests are freewheelin' improvisers, he'll match that too. Realignment isn't necessary. Keep up the great work on this pod.
  22. Do I love every single episode of every podcast? No. Who does? Every time some podcast slightly drifts from your personal taste (for ONE EP!), do you go somewhere and express your disappointment and how the hosts should fix it so your distaste never happens again, with a caveat about how big a fan you are? And you blame us for being Reddit-like? Not only does nobody care, that's not what this forum is for. Didn't the Earwolf boards close for a little while at one point because of stuff like this?
