With the horror mini-set finished, next week's movie is: Raising Arizona The theme is ‘effed up families’! I guess Paul & Amy are announcing the rest of the next series on twitch or something. Will update when it's revealed

Hm haven't done the car line. I guess I've always walked in. One time I signed them out, but that was when I got them from an after-school program a couple hours after school had finished. Another time, it was right at the end of school, I waited at the gate with a mass of parents, walked in to the yard when the bell rang/gate opened, they found me and we walked out and home. I wonder if I flaunted the rules now haha. But it was a pretty chaotic scene! They're similar age as your son, I think they were 7 and 9 when I did this a year or so ago.

One thing that maybe could have helped is if they showed him being friends with the son in the Army. That might've helped us as viewers buy his moving so quickly.

I've picked up my nieces at the end of school no problem without any sort of anything. I reckon that if I picked them up in the middle of the school day or something, they would have checked? I'm thinking maybe it's due to public school? I think when they were in private daycare, then I had to sign in to get them. They're little though. I don't imagine they'd make someone sign in to pick up a 17-year old kid, would they? (I guess they should.)

It would also help if they actually made him charming

I don't mind at all, just was curious! The non-musicals we've done are usually about music in some way or like, Baby Driver, which is basically a non-stop music video sort of thing. If I recall, we did Long Dumb Road solely because Jason stars in it and it had just come out and we wanted to support him. They're at least tangential, and this one I just didn't see it, that's why I asked. But I like less-traditional picks too, so no worries.

I don't mean to sound rude or that I don't appreciate the pick, because I'm happy to watch and discuss anything with you guys, but how was this related to Musical Monday?

I ran a million phone banks for Obama, leading and organizing and training volunteers to make calls. That last weekends before the election... it's the hardest I ever worked (and I've been to law school) and I have great memories of both weekends. It's a great thing you're doing, it's how the system works. It's how campaigns win! (Unless Russia interferes.) I haven't done so much this campaign, for numerous reasons, though I am Kamala's biggest fan, but glad it's going strong! That makes me feel excited.

I have no idea if this was an homage or not, but in the '70s Bo Diddley made a crazy funk album called Black Gladiator. (One of the songs is about how he's such a bad-ass, he invented the elephant, but I digress. The album rules so hard.) This is certainly not one of my favorite horror films. I like it ok, but I think there's so many more scary and interesting. But I did vote yes, I think its influence is undeniable and pretty important and it might be a good elemental choice to be sending into space.

The confusing bit for me was, like everyone else here, I watched it a lot as a little kid, but I honestly had no recollection of having done so. It was messing with my head because it quickly became clear that I must have. What else am I forgetting?! But yea I really like it. It's probably too long and whatnot, but there's so many weird turns that I think it's a great fun.

are you two-timing us

I had not seen this before, but was particularly impressed by the movie. I think it works on <i>soooooo</i> many levels, from simple just watch and be creeped out to breaking it all down as metaphors to its distorting of horror norms (which Paul & Amy bring up). I still vote no though, because I think there are better choices to send into space as an example of horror. It's very close though, and I do like it the more I think about it too.

I mean, yea. That's how I became a superfan. Haha. It was like, I knew his hits. Started checking out more and more and couldn't stop thinking about him and the songs. He's a fascinating and really complex guy. One of my best friends wrote a biography of Prince and there are so many stories. Juxtaposition is a good word, because he tends to be a juxtaposition of so many conflicting things. That's what's so fascinating. Cherry Moon has a lot of the themes that show up in all of Prince's music and art at the time. Rich/poor, seduction/sex, jokes, androgyny, style. And as Jason said, rascally. That's why I loved the film. I know it's not great and probably could have used some co-director helping guide it better, but it is so full-on Prince in so many ways.

I loved Frankenstein, and am leaning to yes. I really wish we voted after going through more of the series though. But for now I do think a Universal Monster movie should be on there and this seems to be a great choice to me. But yea, I guess in time I could see it being overtaken by a high bar and more choices, but for now I'm with it.
