Season 3: Game 1 - Pistol Shrimps 4/5/16
doggans replied to DanEngler's topic in Pistol Shrimps Radio
I'm so happy to have an Earwolf-sanctioned place to talk about the Shistol Primps. My ONLY CONCERN about this new development is that I hope having real podcast ads doesn't stop Matt and Mark from talking about all of their many fake sponsors. -
Episode 54 - Inside That Salvador Dali Painting with The Melting Clocks

"What's a rhombus?" ... "I was thinking of a parallelogram." "Well, keep thinking of it, 'cause your face is delightful when you do!" -
Episode 53 - The Line For The Circular Saw In The Lumber Department at Home Depot
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
A whole lot to love in this episode, but the thing that made me happiest of all was the special appearance of our old friend the Jazzy Rascal. -
Episode 51 - Tesla Charging Station: Live from Largo
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
If anyone was wondering: According to Chris Tallman, yes, the play he speaks of in this episode is the reason his head was shaved in the story he told before the Eiffel Tower episode. -
Episode 50 - Santa Fe Art Gallery

From the people who brought you Han M'Boogie, it's Matt M'Gourley! -
Episode 49 - Universal Studios Hollywood
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Oh lord, did this episode ever bring joy to my Theme Park Nerd/BTTF Nerd heart. Shame that (to my knowledge) none of the Spont improvisers who've actually worked at Universal were here for this one (particularly Mark Gags and Annie Savage), and EXTRA shame Gourley wasn't here to pepper a bunch of Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular references. STILL, fantastic episode. -
Episode 47 - Pediatrician's Office
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
The ONLY thing that could've made it better was if it had been a "Happy Birthday To You" finale. -
Episode 43 - Pediatrician Waiting Room
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
So THIS is the episode where Paul asks Mark about candy! He mentioned that on Pistol Shrimps Radio about 55 years ago. And yes, Paul was thinking of "Help!" when he remembered separate house entrances leading to the same house. -
Episode 40 - Inside a 40 Year-Old Woman's Purse
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I've tried that. Doesn't work particularly well. But I usually AM able to avoid seeing who's in the episode until I hear them announced, because for some reason I enjoy that being a surprise as well. -
EPISODE 39 - Freeport, Illinois
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I was just delighted to hear both of Spontaneanation's JVs perform together again. -
EPISODE 35 - The Moon Landing Taping, 1969
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Oh, man, I loved all the deliberately inaccurate impressions in this one. And in the two episodes since he debuted, I somehow forgot how hilarious the name "Roger News" is. Thanks for the reminder, ad! -
EPISODE 33 - TV News Control Room
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
And the greatest Leesa ad ever with an impression that I hope becomes a recurring character! -
EPISODE 31 - Wine Tasting
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I noticed that re-listening to some older episodes, that Janet has an amazing instinct for callbacks. In the first episode, for instance, I don't know how many re-listens it took for me to piece together her "atrocity you performed" callback. KILLER panel this week, and Bruce was the hardest I've laughed at the interview section in a while. Although it probably helps that the question was loaded with so much potential for silliness. -
EPISODE 29 - Backstage at the Rush Concert: Live from Largo
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
FUN FACTS FROM THE LIVE AUDIENCE: When Cackowski exclaims "Get off my bus!" to the exorcists, it's a callback to an exchange during the break, when Jackson said that in an attempt to call back to PFT's prejudiced-against-anthropomorphic-things bit, but ended up confusing everyone. And as you may have pieced together from elsewhere, the Joy Division stuff is a callback to the song PFT and Lennon sang (and Sarah danced to) during the break. Sadly, I don't remember most of the visual goings-on from the show, so I am HELPLESS to provide fun facts for those. -
EPISODE 26 - Garden of Eden
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
PFT and JV as Proto-Doc and Proto-Marty is literally all I ever wanted in life. (Although Victor stealing the Eban plug was a close second.) -

I'm actually kinda disappointed that Mitch and Delores' adventure in the wardrobe didn't lead them to cross paths with Dr. Baseball Ecstasy. -
How rigid is the one-interview-guest-and-three-improvisor-guests format? Would there ever be a possibility of a special episode, say for an anniversary or something, with MORE THAN THREE Spontaneanation all-star improvisor guests? Because I'd love to hear Janet Varney and Marc Evan Jackson and Sarah Burns and Colleen Smith and Chris Tallman and Matt Gourley and Victor Yerrid and Craig Cackowski and Mark McConville and so many more ALL IN ONE EPISODE, although I would understand if such a thing was deemed too unmanageable.

EPISODE 21 - A Top Chef Finale Afterparty
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
JoCo AND an all-Workjuice team? (And on the same day as the final Sparks Nevada, no less?) So many of my favorite people in a single podcast. Especially great to finally have Annie Savage join the Nation! -
Well, now a precedent is set for returning characters! Deep down, I hope this means someday we'll get a full-on sequel to Savannah, Georgia.

See, now that just BEGS for Mitch and Delores.

EPISODE 15 - A Snorkeling Excursion Ticket Kiosk

Southie AND the Jazzy Rascal! It's a Tompkast miracle! -
EPISODE 14 - An Urban Spelunkers Meeting

Colleen Smith characters going off on tangents about pop culture trivia may be one of my favorite recurring things. -
EPISODE 13 - A Dental Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona: Live from Largo
doggans replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Rudeness aside, I suppose I could understand how someone could find Janet's laugh annoying. I certainly don't AGREE, but I understand on a conceptual level that different people are annoyed by different things. However, I can't even BEGIN to fathom how one could think her laugh sounds "fake". Every time I see or hear Janet--in podcast, on television, or the rare in-person encounter--all she does is radiate genuine sincere joyfulness. -

I had the immense pleasure of attending this particular live show; I am very excited I can now revisit that night any time I want. That's right, i just got a time machine. But having the recording is neat too! I look forward to sharing it with my fellow Cack Attackers.
