Episode 65 - Televangelist's Studio
KatherineIsOdd replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Such a hilarious episode! A particularly absurd and fun monologue! Loved all the Harry Potter talk, and Paul's not-getting-it-but-not-knocking-it perspective as a non-fan and Eban repeatedly thinking he was done playing Harry Potter music and then starting up again. That council was the greatest thing! -
Episode 64 - Knott's Scary Farm: Live from Largo

People talking at the same time always gets me. -
I was excited to hear Would You Rather again, but I kind of love how it all fell apart so quickly. Dan Mangan's playing is very beautiful, I've been listening to him intermittently since the Vancouver tour show, along with Icona Pop, of course. I love Riki, of course she hides in a closet sometimes. Also, I hope the Black Tux sponsorship feud between Scott and PFT continues, and in fact escalates. There could be a duel!

Dear unsolicited audience participation people: Cut it out! Yay, Hitler is back! Wait, that sounded weird. -
Let's Talk About Your Favorite Tour Moments!
KatherineIsOdd replied to Shannon's topic in Comedy Bang Bang 2016 Tour
I've already commented on every thread in this forum with favourite moments from each show, and I stand by all of them and more that I forgot to mention. I'll just add that my #1 favourite moment of the tour was meeting Paul F. Tompkins after wanting to meet him for years, feeling my brain dissolve into a puddle of emotions and my body shake and my voice go squeaky, managing (barely) to get out my carefully chosen words of admiration without crying, and having him be so nice about it, even after a month of touring and meeting thousands of fans, that the entire thing was the single most positive experience of total blind panic that I have ever had. The rest of the night was great too. -
Episode 63 - A Coffee Plantation in Bali: Live from SXSW

I enjoy hearing Eban try to figure out what "Jerking off a whale" music sounds like. I think he nailed it. More fun than a bundle of bananas! In terms of scheduling, the Vancouver show and the June Largo show are releasing in August, and there's still the April live show to be released before that, so that means 6-9 studio episodes releasing between now and then, which were recorded between mid-March and early May, because PFT was on tour throughout May. Playing detective is fun! -
I love Claudia.

Loving the Scott/Al dynamic, this new season of the TV show should be good!

Episode 62 - IKEA in Narnia: Live from The Atlantic Ocean
KatherineIsOdd replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I like how the episode is called "IKEA in Narnia: Live from the Atlantic Ocean," and it seems like both of those things should be fake, but only one of them is. I can't get over "I'm a Happy Feet penguin," in Matt Gourley's specific way of speaking. Little Janet Varney killing it with the genius callbacks! Amanda's dolphin story was adorable. I liked Jean's childhood stories because I could really picture them. Carol the Pisces pirate! Casey and her human prayers, to which God responds! The severed head! Just an awesome and silly episode all around! -
I echo this sentiment 100%. It was a pleasure to listen to the shows, go to the show, meet fellow listeners who get the jokes, cheer and laugh myself hoarse, and meet the performers, despite my anxiety at doing so. I got really emotional when Scott said "I don't want to get off this stage because then it'll be over," and all over again when I listened back. I left the show (and SPONT the next night) with a feeling of euphoria I can't even fully put into words. Thank you to everyone.

Being at this show was amazing! I'm glad we got the longest show in the tour! It was magic to watch everybody's faces and reactions and silent laughter. Especially Scott having to wipe the tears from his eyes multiple times, and everyone bunny hopping off the stage in time to the music at the end. When John/Mike says "It would be if the microphones fucking worked," he was referring to the opener where he sang Ducky Powell's "What a thrashable slope" song, and the microphone cord became unplugged and just plopped down onto the stage right before he would have sung "There's so many trails that I'll never know." He winced, fixed it, and recovered nicely and sang "What a great microphone!" When Paul/Santa said "Go find the other members of the Polyphonic Spree," he was referring to the long-haired headbanded white T-shirt-wearing guy sitting next to me getting up to go to the bathroom. Of course I mocked him about it. They talked at the meet and greet and no hard feelings either way. -

"Watch out for my fucking dick!" -Scott Aukerman Another hilarious episode as always. I don't want this tour to end! I'm typing this comment in my seat waiting for the Vancouver show to start. -

Hearing Pamela from Big Bear say horribly filthy things is made even better when her presence leads ALW of all people to say them! Hope those two kids are okay. Cantina theme closer for the win! -

Geez, what the heck was going on in that audience? Mike sure can build a ridiculous character back story, he keeps knocking them out again and again! I love how PFT keeps finding new things that aren't "No offense" to reply "None taken" to, and it's always funny. Loved the "kickbox" bit. One day Lauren will play a man and Scott won't accidentally call that character "she." I don't know if I understand what was going on with the cool guy characters. I tried reading a plot summary of the Nutty Professor since that was referenced but I don't think it helped. Did Buddy turn into the guy? Am I being dumb? -

These performers really are descending into madness! It is very entertaining to listen to! Should I be concerned or excited that I'm going to the last show, which might be where one of them finally snaps? I just adore this Sully character and his vitriolic hatred of geese. I listened to the episode while on a long walk in a park here in Canada with many local birds, where I made sure to glare menacingly at all the geese. True story, this goose in the foreground bit my finger right before I was able to get this picture. I guess I was asking for it, but the war between humans and geese has indeed begun! I also really loved the soup ghost story. -

"Before you start, I don't know that anybody is interested in the exploits of a cowboy on Mars. I just thought- it seemed that it needed saying by me." I laughed so hard. I do love Sparks, though not as much as I love his pink and purple enemies. Remember that time Lauren was Sparks and had no idea what was going on? That was great. -
Marvelous episode! Poor Fourvel! Scott's brain lapses being treated with pills was just hysterical. "Fourvel, God never closes a door without taking a life." "That's the saddest fucking thing I've ever heard." "And God makes a better door than a window." "Yeah, he was a carpenter." Dying!

Episode 61 - A Suburban High School History Class on The First Day of Black History Month: Live from Largo
KatherineIsOdd replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Even though the improvisers don't usually chime in during the interview, I very much enjoyed the copious chiming in/hijacking that happened. The improv was one of the more chaotic and convoluted ones, veering away from the original location, but it came to a very satisfying conclusion with the singing and the lessons learned. And the giraffes, of course. I like the toilet paper as a symbol of white privilege. I got up half way through the episode to use the bathroom but there was only TP in the men's room and not the ladies'. Male privilege too, then. So no studio episodes recorded between early December and early February? Probably a good thing for Paul and Eban's sanity and the currentness of plugs and topical references, as much as it's also good to have lots of banked episodes to look forward to. -

"What, your hate mail and your fan mail go to different addresses?" "Yeah, yeah." "How can you tell the difference before you open it?" "Because of the address it gets sent to." "Air tight logic, you got me there."
