  1. Also, no one brought up when, on Potomac, Andrew basically said to Katie that the reason they aren't already married was because she wants it so bad. Which is like saying that he is withholding his proposal out of spite... Probably not a good sign! I'm no love expert or anything, but how can that be a good start to a marriage?

Not a normal marriage no, but a housewives marriage? Perfect

  2. Oooh, you know what movies are TERRIBLE but would be abjectly horrible HDTGM episodes (also, something I could never watch parallel to HDTGM episodes?)

YouTube Star movies. Like Fred. There are at least 2 Fred movies, right? Yeah; I'd rather grab a front row seat to a volcano eruption.

I have seen Fred and it is indeed terrible. There is so much wrong with it and it is a trail to watch,

  3. The idea of a well understood technology turning into something regarded as magical and mythical: Good idea. The idea of the happening within the coming of age of a young adult: Nonsense.

Other good things: Why raise a child in "secret" by having him use the last name of the person you're hiding him from, and have him raised by someone you know he may have an active grudge against? If making Jedi involves training them from birth, why not train him from birth?!?

If Amidala was, briefly, a Queen, isn't it strangely coincidental that her daughter is a Princess, even though she's, hopefully, also being kept secret? See also training from birth. Did Lucas really make her mom a queen just so we'd instantly know who she was, even though that makes no sense?

You are asking for sense making from things that make no sense

  4. As I responded in United Passions, my thing is: there's good badfilm and there's bad badfilm.

Something like United Passions, to me, is a terrible choice for HDTGM. Not because it's good; it's objectively a terrible film. But because it's just...boring. It's not bad in any fun way. It's not a trainwreck. It's just uninspired propaganda. The only thing really bonkers about a movie like that is all the after-the-facts stuff that comes out: how few people saw it, how little $ it netted, etc.

Something like Running Scared, to me, is a great choice, because the insanity starts at the pitch and plot summary itself. It's badfilm, probably, but not necessarily a bad film. It's packed full of so many crazy moments, characters, lines, twists etc. that you could spend days unraveling its meandering plot threads.

I want to hear people talk about the latter. I have no interest in listening to people pick apart the latter.

So in the spirit of this thread ... a few films people consider universally terrible, but would be boring as hell as HDTGM episodes:

    • That's My Boy
    • Never Say Never
    • Any more than one Epic Movie / Disaster Movie / Date Movie etc. and even one may be pushing it
    • The Fog or other bad horror remakes

Uwe Boll is kinda an interesting case though. I'm torn between "if you've picked apart one Uwe Boll film, you've really picked apart them all" and "each film is so uniquely awful, they're worth talking about".

I agree! MST3K movies are like that as well.

I think that great bad movies have all of these: Mismatched plot, poor editing, over acting..but a huge component for me is a situation or many situations that leaves the viewer uncomfortable through a created tension because they weren't expecting that tone from the movie.

    I mean think about it:

Face Off Starts off with the murder of a child!

    Crossroads deals with rape.

Twilight has a grown man pledging his love to an unborn child.

Monkey Shines had a monkey trying to sex up a man.

Toys had that icky subplot in which a woman was picked to be in a relationship to Robin Williams.

Gigli is the shining example of this. The abduction of a mentally handicapped person , Ben Affleck touching his mother's butt to give her some sort of injection, and Jennifer Lopez's "Gobble, Gobble" ...

Those movies inspire a disgust and outrage that becomes a delighted glee because we don't know much in this world, but we hold faith in our hearts knowing those situations are wrong and the people who made them are worst than us, which makes us in some small way good.

  5.

For me the best part is the ending when Kirk walks back into the house with this brother inlaw and explains everything. and boy, does he explain it to us and it's the greatest mind blowing story ever told. OVER explaining everything and placing too much meaning into Christmas decorations. he goes to town on it all like the nutcracker is a symbolize of roman solders who are out to kill Christ as a kid and the tree is a symbol of Christ on the cross. all that was missing was his explanation of tinsel . I guess they saved that one for the directors cut. Ohh and tinsel symbolizes the blood of Christ falling from the spear of destiny that roman solders used to kill Christ with.. almost that bad.

all I can say is it really reminded me of this scene in "smoke"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBxpXxZqKms

I really recommend watching the you tube

after this one. it really adds to it all. this is the one I enjoyed the
    .

Gotta hand it to good old Kirk though, because he played the role of the smug, know it all brother in law who had been dying to lecture that man perfectly.

  6. Someone needs to write an essay on the wily smarts of Erika Jayne. How smart was it that when prompted to ask a question of the group to the group, she asked about their common enemy rather than focus on any of them?

I plead to the Bravo Gods above, please Erika Jayne hover above the madness.

Also Casey, Danielle and Deanna totally pegged how disgusting Lisa R is acting. Why Lisa R? They wouldn't get rid of you! You are adorable!

  7. Oh my god what was Betheny's deal?! It felt like the "I'm up here and you're down there" debacle all over again only this time Betheny was loony one.

And Lisa Rinna not being able to watch the whole music video because it's too raunchy? Oh lord give me strength that shit was fake.

Didn't Erika Jayne handle herself like a pro though?

  8. I KNOW THAT THE VANDERPUMP RULES CAUSED YOU PAIN BUT I REGRET NOTHING.

Your explanation of it was worth it!

That being said, I feel like it was important as "THE HISTORIANS" for these shows, you had to watch Vanderpump Rules. I think it also showed a really sinister side to Lisa in that evey time one of the those slack jaw yokels came out of their drug addled haze to realize that the show was a bad idea for their lives, she did her damnest to pull them back in. Watching Lisa profiting off the of the sexual disease ridden misery of those 20's year olds almost feels like that sad Tool video with the people in torturing other people in smaller boxes because they themselves are in a large box being tortured.
