Musical Mondays Week 44 Easter Parade
tomspanks replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
Plus, I kind of wish they had a meet-cute at the first Easter Parade to give it more importance to the overall plot. And I had no idea that an entire year had passed until it was time for another Easter Parade. You could've told me that the movie had taken place in a week and I would've believed it. -

So Nadine was set up as having a cadre of dogs, but later in the Easter Parade, there were no dogs in bonnets or costumes! The Easter parade in NYC these days also involve elaborate costumes for the dogs. I think people back then were missing out though. What's better than pups in bonnets? -
I'm super late, but I voted yes on this. Even though I haven't watched it again since the 90s, I remembered so much about the movie. I don't love it, but the story/plot is so engrossing I can't help but pay attention. Something different I noticed this time around though was whenever Captain Hadley was on screen, I couldn't stop thinking "that's Mr. Krabs!"

That scene reminded me of Singin' in the Rain too. And the scene where Don stacks the drums on that kid in the toy store also reminded me of this scene in Singin' in the Rain: Basically everything is Singin' in the Rain. -

Oh I totally noticed they kept Ann Miller in flats whenever she had to dance with Fred Astaire. Even Judy Garland wore flats a few times. -
Yes, the free version. It definitely felt unedited.

Musical Mondays Week 44 Easter Parade

But how much did the shopping sprees and puppies really cost? Hannah's meal of roast beef, pie, and milk cost a whopping 15 cents, the same price as an issue of Cosmo. Was eating out really cheap back then or were magazines really expensive? Speaking of food, there were some weird things in the movie. Did anyone else notice the bar at Hannah's restaurant: A bowl of olives...on toothpicks. Whose job was it to stick individual olives on toothpicks? Also, in the background there's a bunch of eggs on in...egg display? Is this for an Easter decoration or they just have hard boiled eggs out for the bar patrons? And here, at the fancy restaurant: Nadine and whats-his-face start out their lunch with one olive for her and a stalk of celery for him. Like, are they on a diet or something? Oh, and in case you were wondering, he seasons the heck out of that celery with salt before setting it down on his plate. Dude, no amount of salt is gonna make celery taste any less putrid. -

Re: Don's age, I totally think they were trying to age him down by a lot. Not only is his friend a college student (although he seemed like a professional student, so he could've been in his late 20s, early 30s), Amazon described him as a "rising Broadway star." Doesn't that sound like someone in their 20s? -

Guys I’m only 100 seconds into the movie, but the first line “Happy Easter, happy Easter” reminds me so much of “Good Morning” from Singin’ in the Rain. It’s driving me crazy that I can’t find the sheet music to Happy Easter to compare. ETA: what’s up with the hip flaps on the women’s dresses? Ok, ok I’ll stop live blogging the movie. -
I watched it on YouTube.

Besides, I want everyone else to suffer, er, enjoy it like I did

Some parts where he sings are bonkers and im glad I did not miss any of that. Besides, you can just fast forward.

@CameronH are you able to add a poll to this thread? "Does Shawshank Redemption belong on the AFI 100?" ETA - cool we can @ each other now.

Musical Mondays Week 44 Preview (kateacola's Pick)

Somewhat related to this but there is a tab for themes down there. Dan - are we getting new themes later like a night time theme for poor Cameron H’s eyes? -

WTF, why is your link 30 minutes longer than mine? Wikipedia says the running time is 75 minutes, so why is yours 106 minutes long?

It was the one posted by Open Works Company and it was literally the first link I saw lol.

Episode 193 - Blues Brothers 2000: LIVE!

Hey, it wasn't all bad. Remember when Paul tried to French kiss his mother? Hawt. -
I was sorta dreading watching this, but turns out the past-me was a dummy, because I ended up loving it. I was never not entertained watching this. And then I listened to the podcast and found out there are other musical accompaniments? The music was definitely a highlight and I can't imagine any other score to go with the movie. The score in the YT video I watched was fantastic and I loved the simple effects too, like the woodblock when someone got conked on the head or the little snare beats when Johnnie gets spooked by a tree.

I’ve always thought meatloaf would do anything for love - not necessarily for the woman in the song. Like he might fall in love with another lady, but he won’t cheat on the current lady. So he would at leave a note before running off to Acapulco with his dental hygienist and it would get him out of technically cheating. I just don’t find him sincere at all in this song and he’s building in escape clauses in his promises.

Well, I don't have to look at my history. I've been listening to Junun for the past week, nonstop. The album came out in 2015, but I discovered it only a week ago via the documentary by the same name. How to describe. Um, the album is a collaboration between Shye Ben Tzur and Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) with musicians from India. There are traditional Indian instruments as well as Qawwali singing and big brass instruments and guitar, but the music is cohesive and doesn't sound like a hodgepodge. The lyrics are in different languages, but I don't feel like it impedes my enjoyment at all. It's kind of interesting that there's no "harmony" that we're used to hearing in Western music, or chords really, but the music still sounds rich, if that makes sense. Anyway, here's one of my favorite tracks from the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgp_C_CZAL8&list=PLc53mcl16yjDs0ADiWf5UA8gM4tdJrsW7

I agree with the posts above. Liked the colorful costume and the enthusiastic cast, but overall maybe something got lost in translation, because I couldn't get into it. Perhaps it's something you have to see live on stage? Sorry, Cinco, I couldn't make it all the way through. Also, I thought it was cool that the everyone in the cast was on stage on the raised platform when they weren't in a scene. I liked that there was a harmonium on stage, but I ended up missing the big brassy sound we're used to from Bollywood music.
