Musical Mondays Off-Week 13 (EternalSammich's Pick)
tomspanks replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
It did! Bette Midler won best leading actress in a musical (to no one's surprise) and when the band tried to play her off the stage, she kept on thanking people. I reaaaaaally hope that she performs the day I go to see it. Anyway, the show reminded me of hdtgm when a "quintet of this season's Broadway stars" lead by Justin Guarini performed It's So Hard to Say Goodbye" during the in memoriam portion. I had no idea he was starring in a musical - apparently he was in In Transit, a musical about the NYC subway. -

I was just thinking about a tv movie Frog, starring Paul Williams. Went into a deep dive and found out he wrote Rainbow Connection and We've Only Just Begun, among others. Looking forward to watching this. -

On the side of Skank's car, does he have a count of the races he's won? He beat 4 cars, 3 motorcycles, and then... He beat 2 people in wheelchairs? And one dog? Does he get to keep the wheelchairs if he wins? What does he get when he beats a dog?

Yup, The Wraith is basically Ugetsu.

Tom Hank's daughter had a cameo too, or so I read from online articles. I couldn't pick her out of a lineup. -

I thought it was a private plane for use by Playtone executives and acts. I have no proof of this. Kind of related - this picture of a "snack cart" on Scandanavian air in 1969: More photos and article here. ETA: Cam Bert, the article has a photo of seats facing each other with a table in the middle. -

FTFY Lol, it was very obvious, from the first time they share a scene. Not saying it came out of nowhere. -

The Guy-Faye romance is one of the reasons TTYD isn't a perfect movie for me. Another reason is the ending itself. After Guy and Faye kiss (for what feels like an eternity), they walk back into the hotel. That's weird. Faye is actually all packed and checked out of the room. All of her stuff is outside, waiting for a ride to the bus station. And then, the final shot is Lamarr's stare. Why? Like, throw us a wink or a finger gun or something! The whole thing felt awkward. -

What did you guys think about the Guy-Faye story? I felt like their relationship wasn't really fully developed. And in the end, the pairing seemed forced. But then again, they couldn't be overt about them flirting/falling for each other throughout the movie, since they were dating other people, lest they be painted as "cheaters." -

Re: Wolfman, it was understood that TB would be leaving anyway to join the marines, so they played it off like the member change was intentional. Maybe everyone back home just assumed he left the band because it was time for him to ship out. -

Cam Bert, apparently the TTYD gang did a "tour" of Japan to promote the film and appeared on some crazy tv shows. Think you could find some funny clips? -

Tom Hanks has said that initially he wasn't going to cast Tom Scott because of their strong resemblance. However, Rita Wilson convinced Hanks to cast him. Hanks has also said that he was the Shades character. Hanks plays the drums and wrote the "I am Spartacus" drum solo. Thank you for subscribing to Hank facts. -

Or if Jimmy was actually Juan, they could've been the Juan-ders.
