Musical Mondays Off-Week 5 (Cam Bert's Pick)

I also watched the first 2 seasons of Glee and then checked out, lol. I think it would be too obvious if they cast her as Elphaba. No matter who is cast, they're gonna be scrutinized and compared to Idina Menzel so hard, I don't envy that.- 126 replies

Can I get real nitpicky one last time and question why the gang hung out at Katz's when there are a ton of places in their neighborhood? Going crosstown is a hassle. Later, Lucy is actually hired as a waitress at Katz's, but I dunno, Katz's doesn't seem like the place that would hire a non-experienced out-of-towner. The non-counter guys there are like 60-year-olds. Anyway, if you're visiting, skip the lines at Katz's and go to Russ and Daughters for the best appetizing in the city. Ok, I'm done. Thank you CakeBug and Across the Universe. This has been an interesting week. Can't wait to find out Cam Bert's pick. I hope it's a good one! -

Let's be real, that one star was for Donnie Yen. Obviously it's Tommy. -

One of the audience members brought up this line, but I wanted to discuss it further. Xander Cage says that he was doing the numbers to figure out where exactly between North Korea and China that the soldier would land if he was flushed down the toilet on the plane. His numbers involved air velocity divided by distance. Right off the bat, that makes no sense, as the "distance" part is the unknown and shouldn't be in his equation. Secondly, he probably meant "speed" (of the plane) instead of "air velocity," since that has nothing to do with his question. Speed is distance divided by time. Xander Cage's equation would give you an answer of 1/time, which is useless in this situation. Assuming that the plane is traveling in a straight line at a constant speed, you divide that by the time it takes for the soldier to hit the ground, and you'll have the distance that he will have travelled from the drop off point. If we assume the plane was already at cruising altitude and speed and if we assume the soldier takes 3.5 minutes to hit the ground, yadda yadda yadda, he will land about 32 miles from the drop off point.* Having said that, there's no need to go all Hidden Figures, because the soldier will land somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The route from the Philippines to Detroit goes nowhere near North Korea and China, as that would mean they were heading straight North from the Philippines. As they seem to be in a hurry to get to Detroit, it's very unlikely they decided to take the scenic route. Another thing, I agree with everyone that Donnie Yen was a delight, which is why I hated that he had to say a line about how he fought a war on every continent. Really? He fought a war on Antarctica? Who did he fight, an army of emperor penguins? *Don't worry guys, the math checks out. -

Besides the quiet policy and the booze, I hate that if I go to another theater, it will slow me down from reaching the next level at the Alamo, lol. -

The episode convinced me. Although now I see it's no longer playing at my local theater. It never played at my Alamo. Lego movie tomorrow at the Alamo though! -

Is Two of Us underrated? I like that one a lot, but I think most people have heard it. Back to Across the Universe - I can't stop talking about it. It taught me something. I alluded to this earlier, but Jude makes a "British people have bad teeth" joke with Lucy and tells her that her teeth are perfect. She says "haven't you heard of braces? [you big idiot]" Jude says yes, he's heard of them, and they're used to "keep our trousers up." I didn't know braces meant suspenders in the UK! -

Some people might disagree, but I think "In My Life" is underrated. ETA: What's underrated when it comes to the Beatles though? I feel like everyone has heard every song at least once, no? ETA2: I wish AtU had included Penny Lane. Is that underrated? Do you think Taymor was mad that Almost Famous already did the Penny Lane character? -

Fascinating. Another question. Max runs into Jude again while he's being chased by the other students whose windows Max broke. Max thanks Jude for hiding him and mentions that if he were to be caught, his punishment would involve his genitalia and shoe polish? What does this mean? -

Was there that much non-Musical portion? It felt like wall-to-wall music. We didn't talk about this yet, but Paco died, right? What are the chances that the bombing is front page news in Liverpool? -

Love it or hate it, Across the Universe was an interesting choice. It's pretty interesting that nobody was "meh" about it. You're so considerate. Also - my bad, everyone, for not considering this earlier. -

I watched it. It was dumb, but it made me chuckle a couple of times.
