Towards the end, at Horace's store, Dolly says to Ephraim something like she's gonna marry Horace - it wouldn't be a marriage like what she and Ephraim used to have, but that she would make Horace happy. I took that to mean she's not necessarily marrying Horace for love and passion, but for companionship. Dolly would help Horace spread around that manure - since she knows everyone - and in turn she would take care of him (and occasionally clean out the drain). See, I think this premise would have worked better if she wasn't a 25 year old goddess on screen.

So Cam, why do you think Wall-E loved this movie so much?

I agree, she's gorgeous. She's like buttah. BUT - I felt she was far from the spinster widow type.

I really think the lyrics in "It Takes a Woman" are all sexual innuendos.

Hmm, in a NYC subway station, I'd imagine mostly fecal matter - rats and mole people. ETA: Forgot to ask, when did movies start having realistic looking blood? Did anyone else think the blood in this movie was just way too bright?

I loved this too! He was supposedly at the "Grand Central" station and I can't imagine getting a freshly squeezed OJ while waiting for the train there, although for 20 cents it's quite a bargain.

Can you imagine having to carry a little knife around with you in case you see some sea creature on the ground and you wanna eat it? If anyone know what Charnier was eating, please let me know. Did anyone else think there was a lot of eating in this movie? The film opens with the undercover cop eating some sort of pastry. When he gets killed, the hit man takes the croûton! Geez, some respect for the dead please. And my favorite was the little scene at the Copain, which seemed like a high end restaurant, where the Frenchies enjoy 2 plates of escargot (but of course). Popeye keeps an eye on them while eating a slice of pizza himself.

I might be the only person who wasn’t delighted by Some Like it Hot. >__<

No, they didn’t mention that at all.

It’s gonna be...a rewatch for me

Maybe it's because Top Hat was my first F&G movie, but I think the Cheek to Cheek dance number outshines any of the pair dances in Swing Time in terms of romance and elegance (and number of feathers).

I know that guy! Towards the end of the number, you can see him in the background doing that overhead clap thing and the hustle. It's hard to see in this screenshot though.

Wanted to address something that Kat Burns mentioned on the episode. She said that the foley artists were not doing their job, because during the Bojangles of Harlem number, Fred Astaire's claps sounded like his taps. However, this is because Astaire was using hand castanets (you can see them in his palms), which make sort of a click/clacking sound. In minstrelsy, there was often a "Bones" character, who played the castanets. This is another reason why I think the Bojangles number leans more racist and less tribute (along with the clownish outfit and the buffoonish movements). As far as I can tell, Bill Robinson didn't use castanets in his act.

Also, Paul saying he has never watched a movie that included black face makeup...

But nobody is saying we need to scrub history and forget these things happened. Even in the podcast episode, the hosts and guests spent a fair amounts of time discussing this issue. I don’t see how removing Swing Time from the AFI list - especially given the weak story - is somehow going to make us forget about black face makeup when people today are still using it (for example, on every goddamn Halloween).
