  1. I listened to one episode of CBB and didn't really get it (it's a hard show to get into from just a random episode). But the Earwolf homepage slideshow had HDTGM in it, and it was the LOL episode with Chelsea Peretti and Rob Huebel. I love Chelsea, so I decided to check it out, and I laughed so goddamn hard.

Same! I did NOT like CBB first time I heard it, I just did not get it. Though in all fairness, my first 5 or so listens was in my friends car and he would just start an episode where he left off, so it would be like no context and all of a sudden it's Pamela from Big Bear. It wasn't until I watched the TV show that i understood the whole thing and what was happening and what the "point" was. I thought it was just idiots making pussy jokes at each other (which it IS, but like I'm in on it now so it's cool?)

HDTGM was my "gateway" show into Earwolf and got into a lot of the Wolfpop shows before they combined everything which then led me back to other Earwolf stuff (CBB, Spont.)

  2. Did I understand it right that there will be some new episodes that are only for subscribers? Will there be an annoucement here when one is available? Because I probably won't subscribe to Howl right now, but I likely will if/when a new subscriber-only episode is released. Does anyone know more about that?

As a current subscriber, I can say that there are certain show eps that don't get put on here, primarily shows done on tours (Comedy Bang Bang) or some special eps that were done at conventions, and mini-series and specials done by Earwolf people apart from their regular shows (Lauren Lapkus' Wild Horses stuff, for example). For HDTGM, there aren't any that I can think of that haven't also been on Earwolf thus far, but I could be mistaken.

Edit: this is not counting the stuff that Paul talks about in this podcast, this is my experience up to this point

  3. Really weirded out by the number of commenters hoping for failure for Earwolf. I get the disappointment in having to pay for something that previously was free, but the idea that you should get things your way or they should fail is very sad and gross.

Also, listening to ads is a meaningless way to "support" a podcast if you aren't buying the product. If you're balking at $3 a month, how many $700 mattresses can you buy in a year? How many $25 pairs of underwear? Any $60/week Blue Apron subscribers out there? Advertisers don't give a shit about your whining on forums, they care about revenue. How many podcasts are Casper/Warby Parker/et al sponsoring, hundreds? A thousand? How much do you honestly think they are paying for indie web comedians to read some copy?

  4. I'm not judging people who can't afford it, we've all been there. Even feeling sad or upset about the change makes sense to me, you want something, you can't afford to have it, it sucks.

I'm talking about people who feel that they are being "cheated" because working actors and writers have been providing entertainment for free are now asking to be reasonably compensated for that content.

I understand they need to keep the lights on...

No, they don't need to "keep the lights on", they need to be fairly compensated for their work. "Bare minimum" is not the obligated payment for what has become a sizeable media network stacked with work created by some of the greatest rising talent in American comedy right now. They are not obligated to work in the red to provide free content.

  5. can you download the eps once you sign up?

Yes you can, and there is an INSANE amount of content, including basically every major comedy album to come out in the last 10 years, so many specials, mini-series, all the CBB tour stuff.

It's insane to me the amount of content you guys use that you don't feel "good" about paying for. Sure, you only listen to 1 show. And then you camp in these forums. Who's paying for the hosting? There are no ads on here! Howl is less than $3/month if you sign up for the yearly plan, sheesh.

  6. Maybe youve never had a friend like that. Do you know what it's like to have your ability to trust anyone, ANYONE AT ALL, shattered because of a betrayal so profound? Maybe you didnt even realize how much you had come to depend on this person but to have it all just go away in the blink of an eye...Can you even imagine? It ruins you.

I get that, but to have so little self awareness as this woman does is pretty funny to an observer. She goes on at length to say how insanely close she and her brother are (to the point people thought they were dating(!)) but can't understand why his wife wouldn't open up to her about their relationship? She loved this woman so much but could not see that she was in a failing marriage for 2 decades? Honestly, I feel bad for the ex because she was so tangled up in her husband's life it was like she had no outside perspective, just him and his crazy sister who was admittedly "worship[ful]" and "obsessed" with her and wanted to spend all waking hours with her. Could you imagine spending EVERY weekend with your spouse's family? WHO YOU ALSO WORKED WITH??

Also, the fact that the brother seems pretty resigned to this makes me think that she wasn't the only one stepping out on their marriage. The sister is tellingly vague about her brother's shortcomings, just "he has his own issues", issues that she states the ex dealt with for many years. I hope she seeks therapy to deal with her anger and sadness and also maybe look into working on her boundary issues!

  7. "Fun Fact": During the late 1990 early 2000 In europe some older trains toilets where just holes in the floor of the bathroom and they tell you to urinate and or defecate while the train is moving between stops I guess 'cuz they don't want train stations to reek with poop or piss smell (and also mountains of poop)

Source: Me because I went to Italy a buch back then

Well laaaa deeee daaaa! Someone got to go to Europe and shit in a hole!

jk, that's pretty crazy and would definitely make an Italian remake of 'Stand By Me' a lot different.

  8. Vampire's Kiss I believe marks the official start of over-the-top Nicolas Cage performances, with the second being Deadfall in 1993.

I feel "Peggy Sue Got Married" was the first movie where he just went totally left field with his choices. It's crazy to think that he did Vampire's Kiss only a year before Moonstruck and Raising Arizona!
