The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp -
It was streaming on Amazon over the summer (at least for Prime customers), but looks like that's no longer the case.

Homework: Top Gun (1986) vs. Minority Report (2002)

After owning up to your mistake I think you've earned the title Forum Man. -
Enthusiastic yes and as a man I'd like to say to Amy, I would love to look like a young Paul Newman.
-
Oh thank god.

Episode 114 - 9 to 5 vs. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (w/ Alan Scherstuhl)

Dolly Parton is a wonderful human being, but I could have gone along just fine never having watched either of these. -
Episode 111 - Lost in Translation vs. Marie Antoinette (w/ Stephanie Zacharek)

Still very upset about the Australian's cat. Can't vote. -
Woo, great film and great guest.

Episode 105 - Eraserhead vs. Blue Velvet (w/ Michael Nordine)
alt0782 replied to DaltonMaltz's topic in The Canon
I think just the ones that have aired to date. You might want to hold off until all 18 have aired to jump on that deal. -
David Edelstein for Wonder Woman (*ducks*)

Eraserhead?? Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE VELVET! -
I'm not HoldenMartinson or nickperkins, but you've still got a Homework thread. Next week Amy will be joined by Michael Nordine of Indiewire, the LA Weekly to pit Eraserhead (1977) against Blue Velvet (1986) in an all Lynch versus episode. (Hooray, Twin Peaks is back!) Here are some VOD links, apologies in advance for those of you outside of the US as these links may not be available in your region. https://www.justwatc...q=blue%20velvet https://www.justwatc...ch?q=eraserhead

Episode 104 - Female Trouble (w/ Jake Fogelnest)
alt0782 replied to DaltonMaltz's topic in The Canon
I love John Waters and I liked Female Trouble well enough, but this was a soft yes for me. Hope it's not the last John Waters we see on The Canon. -
Episode 102 - The Fellowship of the Ring vs. The Return of the King (w/ Joanna Robinson & David Chen)

I voted for ROTK because to me it seems like a better candidate to represent the entire trilogy in the canon. To be honest, I haven't watched these films since their original theatrical run and I have zero interest in ever revisiting them. Wake me when Book of the New Sun becomes a 20 hour film series. -
Oh, Gene Tierney is in this.

Homework: The Fellowship of the Ring vs. The Return of the King
alt0782 replied to HoldenMartinson's topic in The Canon
Is anyone going to watch both of these before the next podcast? The idea alone is giving me anxiety. I like the trilogy fine, but I haven't revisited it since I watched RotK in theaters (skipped The Hobbit ones altogether). -
Episode 99 - Sign o' the Times vs. Stop Making Sense

You can say that again. -
Homework: Juno (2007) vs Whiplash (2014)

If you're going to keep throwing versus episodes at us we really need a neither option. -

((WET BLANKET ALERT)) I am not a fan of concert films and I don't think either host really sold me on the cinematic worth of them. Interesting time capsules, but this conversation sounds more like talking about how great Prince and the Talking Heads were as musicians (yes, true). I'll agree with Armond, if there's room for one there should be room for both. They're both great musicians of the 80s and while I don't agree concert films should be anywhere near the canon, well... fuck it, Clerks is already in. -
http://letterboxd.com/alt0782/ this is me. I'm kind of a crank, so don't mind any negativity / take it too seriously.

I really enjoyed Green Room, it's kind of austere but I really appreciate that about it.. A Bigger Splash came really early in the year, but that one also left a mark. Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton are unbeatable for me. The Handmaiden, The Witch, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Hail, Caesar all deserve a mention. Have to catch up with Moonlight, Jackie, and La La Land still so my opinion is probably forfeit.

I'm going to give Amy the yes vote as a reward for her restraint in not putting forth American Ultra.

I'll take a pint of that. I was ambivalent towards the Beatles before watching Hard's Day Night and the viewing didn't do anything to change that. I did enjoy some of the jokes / scenes, but felt like it really lost any steam after that first 45-60 minutes and I just wanted the thing to be over. I was curious to see in this thread if there was anyone else who wasn't really a Beatles fan who may have still enjoyed the movie. Anyone?

K. Austin Collins now on The Ringer is pretty enjoyable.

Available on my fucking shelf. YES. Can't wait to hear Amy's thoughts on the fight scene.
