  1. First and foremost how is everyone holding up after seeing Zac Efron’s “dad bod”? Dave and Matt hope you’re ok and have a brand new My First Time (#FleshHunger) to lift your spirits. Then, the incredible John Benjamin Hickey is here to chat with the guys about surviving COVID completely alone, living in East Hampton, Babylon Berlin, The Waltons, directing Plaza Suite (starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick), postponing a full year, the future of Broadway, dream casting Tiger King, Brady Bunch, Rich Man, Poor Man, Making Love, being more afraid of being an actor than gay, meeting Andy Cohen on the 976 line, meeting John’s partner at a brunch, creating a queer community through work, spending more time with your partner now than ever before, growing up in Plano, TX, and how handling COVID *can* be an amazing gesture of love.

  2. Christian Finnegan and Seena Ghaznavi join Negin to discuss Trump’s bizarre Fox News interview and why the protests in Portland aren’t getting more media attention. They also talk about “cancel culture” and debate whether anyone truly gets canceled.

  3. This week, Bryan discusses the sordid saga of former ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, one of the only openly LGBTQ+ officials appointed by Trump, and his Twitter tirade against the Victory Fund, which supports LGBTQ+ individuals running for office. Then, Erin covers the latest in anti-abortion bills across America and how state legislations are taking the “heartbeat bill” to another level.

  4. This week’s Getting Curious is a show like no other, since Jonathan is joined by the iconic Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award winner Audra McDonald. She and Jonathan discuss the critical work she’s doing as the co-founder of Black Theatre United, an organization that is advocating for equity in the theater world and the nation. They also discuss how theatergoers can continue to support the performing arts community, during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond. (And stick around for the third act to hear Audra’s recommendations for what to watch and listen to once you’re done with the episode!)

  5. Recent grad Renn Tan sits down with Cameron to discuss growing up in Malaysia, home not feeling like home, and how language informs their identity. Sign up for their book subscription service that delivers Black and LGBTQ+ literature: https://www.newsunsbox.com/launch/

  6. This election season is anything but routine, and this week, Jonathan is asking political strategist Ben O’Keefe to coach us through all the ways we can help flip seats, add balance to any check on our democracy, and win big on election day. Ben is a human rights activist, progressive strategist, and founder of the impact entertainment company Give A Damn. He is a former Senior Aide to Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign, and currently the Impact Producer on the forthcoming Untitled Stacey Abrams documentary from Amazon Studios.

  7. Matt kicks off this week’s episode with his “My First Time” time story! (Send yours to: homophiliapod@gmail.com) Then, quite possibly the most delightful person on earth, Ross Mathews, joins the guys to dish about everything. They discuss how to be an extrovert in quarantine, Too Hot to Handle, suggestions for Love Is Blind, forgetting what human touch feels like, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Celine Dion, a bone-chilling story about Barbara Walters, growing up in Mount Vernon, Aladdin, what it takes to date well (it’s confidence), being the unofficial mayor of Palm Springs, significant break-ups, thoughts about kids, and plans for post quarantine.

  8. On this week’s Throwing Shade, Bryan talks about the 4th of July party at Fire Island with zero masks and zero social distancing, and the laughable non-apology given by attendee Corey Hannon, who tested positive for Covid-19. Then, Erin covers the murder of soldier Vanessa Guillén, the appalling ways the U.S. military treats women, and some extremely disturbing statistics on sexual assault in the armed forces.

  9. This week on Getting Curious, Dr. Kira Thurman and Ashleigh Gordon join Jonathan to discuss the remarkable work of Black classical composers and musicians through history and today. Dr. Thurman is an assistant professor of History and Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. Ashleigh Gordon is the co-founder, Artistic and Executive Director, and violist of Castle of our Skins, a Boston-based concert and educational series devoted to celebrating Black Artistry through music.

And make sure to check out the Castle of our Skins resources page for a list of organizations, ensembles, composers, and more!

  10. BIG episode today! Thank God Dave survived his first nasal COVID test because he and Matt have big plans for YOU. There are now not one, but TWO ways for listeners to be part of the show! First, the guys are introducing a new segment called “My First Time” where-in you send us stories of your first time and we play it on the podcast. It’s only fair for the guys to go first, and Dave kicks it off with a doozy. The second way to be on the show? Toss the guys a new logline in Apple Podcast reviews. The current logline, “Hosts Dave Holmes and Matt McConkey grill LGBT celebrities on what they’re loving, and who they’re loving” is pretty good, but we think you can do better.

And that’s all before we get to today’s incredible guest, tony nominee Beth Malone! Beth delights the guys with all the ways she tried to not realize she was gay before she met her wife. They also chat about Beth’s guilty Colorado quarantine, her new pup Molly Brown, binging Game of Thrones, the power of language, Kristy McNicol, Jodie Foster, Jo on The Facts of Life, Brandi Carlile, Dolly Parton, what it was like to be part of Broadway’s sudden shutdown, and how Beth met her wife.

BE PART OF THE NEW “MY FIRST TIME” SEGMENT!

Send us a short (2-3 minutes) audio recording recounting your first time and we’ll play it on the show! Email: Homophiliapod@gmail.com

  11. On this week’s Throwing Shade, Erin talks about the Supreme Court ruling in favor of Louisiana abortion clinics in June Medical Services v. Russo and why John Roberts’ affirmative opinion on the case rings hollow. Then, Bryan discusses the recent push to rename John Wayne Airport as the focus is put on the straight-up endorsement of white supremacy by the film star via his remarks in a 1971 Playboy interview.

  12. Dan Lippert, Drew Tarver, Ryan Rosenberg, and Jon Mackey are all best buds and together perform all around LA as the sketch group Big Grande. Today they join Matt Besser for a special improv5humans complete with pirate speakers, passionate waltzers, and a guy who lives in a mall. Plus, everyone shares their best Shaq story during Crap On YouTube.

  13. On this week’s Getting Curious, Jonathan is taking the creepy out of crawly with entomologist and evolutionary biologist Dr. Jessica Ware. We’re talking periodical cicadas, cockroaches, dragonflies, and more. Dr. Ware is a curator of Odonata and non-Holometabolous insect orders at the American Museum of Natural History, New York and a professor at the Richard Gilder Graduate School. She is also the VP-Elect of the Entomological Society of America, and the President of the Worldwide Dragonfly Association.
