  1. We read your Instagram comments. We saw your clamoring for more information on the stunning painting behind Jonathan’s couch—and the artist behind the work. This week, we’re satisfying your curiosity (and ours!) with a conversation between Jonathan and the abstract expressionist painter and writer A’Driane Nieves. A’Driane shares how she developed her art practice, why she’s partial to acrylic paints and massive canvases, what she sees as a more equitable art world, and so much more.

A’Driane Nieves is an interdisciplinary abstract artist, speaker, writer, and the founder of the Tessera Arts Collective and Abstractions Magazine.

  2. Actress Jane Lynch feels chosen and honored about being Conan O’Brien’s friend.

Jane sits down with Conan to talk about throwing a track suit on seething rage with her character Sue Sylvester on Glee, making film history with Christopher Guest, and going to where the love is. Plus, Conan asks for a favor involving a lost cell phone and a potential murder.

  3. Musician Dave Grohl feels somewhat conflicted about being Conan O’Brien’s friend.

Dave sits down with Conan to talk about the merits of fried chicken and champagne, jamming with Paul McCartney, the pre-show ritual, and Foo Fighters’ new studio album Medicine at Midnight. Plus, Sona shares a big announcement with the team.

  4. Actor and comedian David Spade feels sort of excited about being Conan O’Brien’s friend.

David sits down with Conan to talk about learning the ropes while working at Saturday Night Live, texting with Norm Macdonald, and memories of his father. Plus, Conan and Sona go head-to-head with a Big Dick History pop quiz.

  5. This week, Bryan and Erin update us on two of the worst things about the world today – Candy Kraft Mac & Cheese and Ted Cruz – before diving into their ‘ssues. First, Erin discusses another new “heartbeat bill” in South Carolina banning abortion, but also unexpected good news in the way of a study about the effectiveness of medical abortions via telemedicine. Later, Bryan shares a Queerty article detailing the struggles and monumental influence of black LGBTQ+ performers in shaping modern music.

  6. In the months after the events of SiriusXM: Endgame when “the snap” caused fifty percent of all Earwolf podcasts to disappear, Matt Besser is living in an idyllic radio landscape of his own making alternating between the original days of radio broadcasts; shock jock zoo radio; and most notably the legendary DJ known as Wolfman Jack. As Matt enters new decades encountering different radio tropes, Brett the Sound Engineer and former Earwolf producer, Dana Wickens begin to suspect that things are not as they seem.

  7. We love going off script for Getting Curious, but we’re staying on it with this week’s guest: the Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated writer, director, actress, and author Emerald Fennell. She and Jonathan discuss her latest project and directorial feature film debut PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, her role as Camilla Parker Bowles on THE CROWN, and so much more.

PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, nominated for three Golden Globe awards, is a comedy thriller that centers on a woman, played by Carey Mulligan, who is traumatized by an event in her past and sets out for revenge. There are a few spoilers in the first segment of this episode, but we’ll give you a heads up before each one. And the film, released by Focus Features, is available on demand, so if you want to see it before listening to the episode, we’ll see you back here in 1 hour and 54 minutes. Finally, because this film addresses sexual assault, we want to be clear that we’ll be discussing this topic and, more generally, representations of trauma in popular culture, during this part of the episode.

You can follow Emerald on Twitter @EmeraldFennell.

  8. Put on your finest loungewear and raise your favorite coffee mug because this week’s episode of Getting Curious is an EVENT! After six years of incredible work, NASA’s Perseverance rover is set to land on Mars in one Earth day, and Jonathan is speaking with Christina Hernandez, an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, all about what to expect. Listen in to learn more about the Red Planet, the Perseverance mission, and Christina’s advice for the next generation of NASA innovators.

  9. On this week’s ATTITUDES! Erin rips into Vagisil for their new product aimed specifically at teens, and all the problems with their justifications for its existence. Then, Bryan profiles civil rights activist Bayard Rustin before discussing the outrage of One Million Moms (which is really just one mom) against an American Girl doll with lesbian aunties. Scandalous!

  10. This week on Getting Curious, we’re celebrating 200 episodes and five years of the show with a look back at some of our favorite segments on empowerment, advocacy, and exploration. We’re so grateful to all of our listeners and guests for taking this journey with us, and we’ll be back next week with an all new episode that’s truly out of this world!

  11. We live in a world with hot pink macaroni and cheese now. Get used to it! This week, Bryan profiles self-described “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet” Audre Lorde before diving into a recent story about a London school headmaster who came out to his students during an assembly. Then, Erin discusses the Biden administration’s positioning on the Hyde Amendment and other women’s health issues – and why we should still be saying, “hmmm.”

  12. This week on Getting Curious, we’re learning about three women who shaped the movement for civil rights in the United States—Alberta King, Louise Little, and Berdis Baldwin—but whose stories have too often been footnotes in books about their famous sons.

The writer and scholar Anna Malaika Tubbs joins Jonathan to discuss her new group biography The Three Mothers, her work studying Black motherhood as a Gates scholar and Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Cambridge University, and her approach to public projects like Stockton, California’s Status of Women Report.

Follow Anna on Twitter @annas_tea_ and on Instagram @annastea_honesty. Make sure to check out The Three Mothers, published by Flatiron Books, on sale now.

  13. Actor Bryan Cranston feels very lucky about being happily paid to be Conan O’Brien’s friend.

Bryan sits down with Conan to talk about brushes with Charles Manson, establishing contact with Vince Gilligan on The X-Files, and portraying characters with complex moralities from Breaking Bad to his new show Your Honor. Later, Conan responds to a listener voicemail regarding his strangest purchases.
