Episode 93: THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT

I am really on the fence with this one. I remember being sucked into the hype around it and there was one review quote that said it was the scariest movie since The Exorcist. That's the one that got me to the theater to see it. I remember liking it a lot the first time through but not living up to that line. I also recall walking through the crowd at the mutiplex and hearing raves about the other scary movie that was out at the same time - The Sixth Sense - and wishing I had gone to that instead. But I did buy the DVD and watched it a few more times like it but never loved it. But the discussion was compelling and it does have a place in film history. Right now I am voting no but I can see myself waffling on this one.

    A Few Good Men

...and kudos for resisting the temptation for throwing Cruise and Moore into bed during/after a long night of working together on the case. I am a big fan of this one and would love to hear the discussion.

    Marx Bros. VS episode

I'm with you on this. I vote for A NIGHT AT THE OPERA and ANIMAL CRACKERS.

    Bonnie and Clyde

I'd like to nominate 1967's Bonnie and Clyde. I saw it in the theaters the year of its release (I was around 8-1/2 yrs old). Naturally, I didn't quite get all that was going on. I consider it one of the films, if not the film that made me into a life-long movie fan. I know that at that point in my life I hadn't seen anything quite it. It is one of the early films of the New Hollywood and a Best Picture nominee of that year. Clearly, it is a personal favorite and I hope worthy of a Canon discussion.

    Similar film podcasts?

I am new to The Canon (welcome to my first post!). I have a few currently active movie podcasts in my rotation, but was looking to replace one or two when I found The Canon which I am enjoying quite a bit. To catch up, I am alternating the most recent episodes with past eps of films I am especially interested in. Also included in my list are a few old favorites which, while no longer active, are worth listening to. So, to jump into this topic here are some of my favorite movie podcasts: • Now Playing Podcast - It's been around for years and offers up in depth, spoiler filled deconstructions of films. There are many retrospectives of film series, directors...etc. This is a long time favorite of mine. • The B-Movies Podcast - My go-to weekly for reviews of current films and movie news. • Film Sack - Their slogan is "Mining the depths of entertainment for all mankind..." They offer weekly discussions on many films not necessarily classics, but good films turn up occasionally. The hosts are very funny. I think that they focus on films available on Netflix streaming. • The Hollywood Gauntlet - This one offers VERY in-depth, and usually quite long discussions on films and series. The Godfather ep is epic! They haven't dropped a new ep in a while but the library is worth checking out. • James Bonding - If you like 007 movies this is must listen. The hosts are two uber fans and they are joined by different guests for each show. • All Movie Talk - No longer active, but the library is very good. Interesting discussions on various themes. They include "Top 6" lists. I especially enjoyed eps where they satirize movie 'pitches' for genres of films consisting of various tropes and clichés. • Cinebanter - Again, no longer active, but fun. I think one of the first male/female movie discussion shows. • Filmspotting - I use to listen to this one a lot. Now, just an occasional listen. Sorry to say, I am not a big fan of Adam. But I really like Michael Phillips when he is on the show. Obviously, like movies, there are a lot of shows out there and some will click with you and many will not.
